Never assume  the prices a person paid will be the same at time of posting - they change like the wind.

So, now you've done your research...made a decision yet?

Have not made a decision yet, because I am not sure if I really need a colonoscopy. It is quite expensive. The reason why I wanted to take colonoscopy, is that for the last 5 weeks or so, I have been defecating 3-4 times pr day... The condition has not really improved, and I do not know why this is happening. I've seen a doctor twice, and taken stool samples. No parasites, no red blood cells or white blood cells in the shit (the latter could indicate I was fighting an infection). From various sources I have understood this condition could be due to a variety of reasons, but if it does not improve in a few weeks, maybe I'll do a colonoscopy anyway. The doctor said he does not think colonoscopy is needed. I was so fed up with the condition, that I thought I should do a colonoscopy, but the prices gave me second thoughts...

I discussed this condtion in a different thread, which can be found here:

  2. I tried thai massage at some different places, but quite often it appears more as a kind of massage for relaxation than as massage of great therapeutic value. What I want is something which can effectively loosen up tensions in the body, thus help to correct imbalances which may have been there for years, affecting body posture etc.

I had some sessions with Mike from seatherapy.net

He uses thai massage and the understanding of Sen Lines (from Thai Massage) as a basis for his treatments, but I find his approach is much more direct and effective as far as a therapeutic value is concerned. However, he is quite expensive, so I cannot afford having too many sessions with him. I would be interested in getting input on other options which could be of relevance, and not too expensive.

  3. Can anyone recommend some good saunas in Chiang Mai, in example in the Huay Kaew area? I am not meaning sauna as in the sense of a meeting place for gay people, but a good "western" sauna with wooden inventory, and really hot (preferably 80 degress celcius or more, that's what I call sauna).... They have one at Fitness Thailand, but it is not working at the moment (was closed last time I checked)

  4. The Organic eggs sold at Tops, Kad Suan Kaew, seem to be pretty good. I consume them every day. Whereas the supposedly organic eggs used in example at Pun Pun Restaurant or Juicy4u, does not seem organic to me. (Due to the color of the yolk etc) but I might be wrong.

  5. I went to CM Ram today, and they said estimated cost was about 15.000 baht (could not give the exact price). That is about 3.000 baht more than at rajavej, but is probably worth it for the colour photos (for future reference)

Does anyone know the price for colonoscopy at Sripat?

Your giving out erroneous info on Rajavej. Asd a result of reading this forum, I contacted them by email using references in this forum because I'm in the market for one. Here is there written reply:

Dr. Kannika is available for clinical consultations on Wednesdays at 9:30 am.  Dr. Jeerasak, also a gastroenterologist, is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:am till 12:noon. A colonoscopy with anesthesia is about 15,000 - 17,000 baht as an out patient.  This would include the doctor's fee and biopsy.

If you have any more questions or would like to make an appointment, please feel free to call me or write an email.

I hope you have a nice day!

    Kind regards,

    Saskia.

Sirpat has a real reasonable price for both colon and stomach tests. There is a Dr. in the clinic there that speaks perfect English and does the work on Saturdays. My wife had both scoping done and polyps removed for around 17,000 Bht.

    Hi,

thanks for posting this! Someone else on this forum said Rajavej was 12.000, so I assumed it was correct  and stated it as a fact without having checked it myself. Good you made it clear.

Does anyone know the price for colonoscopy at Sripat?

  7. Hi,

I've had colonoscopies at both the Ram & the Rajaveg (bad spelling)

The care was brilliant at both hospitals, but the Rajaveg is half the price & if you do have insurance you won't have half the battle that you would have at the Ram to get proceedure paid for, also the pharmasy at the Ram is probably the one of the biggerst scams going in the country!!!... And I couldn't care less that this does go in writing.

    Go to the Rajaveg

Thanks! Rajavej is about 12.000 bath?

  8. Hope all goes well.

last time i had one as i have them every 3 years they always seem to find a couple of 6mm pollops.

    Wish they would stop growing.

I woke at the end and saw inside me on the monitor.

Boy was that a strange sight.

where did you have it/where would you recommend to have it done?

  9. I want to take a colonoscopy. In Chiang Mai Ram. Unfortunately the section for such treatments is closed until friday.

Can anyone recommend another hospital of similar quality to Chiang Mai ram, where they offer colonoscopy?

  10.  yeah Robby,

I will take a colonoscopy, and I am also taking stool samples now. They said the need stool samples on three different days, to make sure whether or not there are parasites etc.

I would like to add that although it does not treat the underlying cause for the condition (shitting 3-4 times a day), there is a product called Smecta which can be helpful to relieve the symptoms. It is a grey powder which is mixed with water, and consumed three times a day. When i used it last year, when i had some kind of diarrhea, it made me go to the toilet  only once a day. It seems that it slows down the movements of the intestine, and the powder envelopes the shit.

  11.  Thanks for feedback, everyone!

I guess I should have my stools tested, to see if I have Giardiasis, salmonella or something else. Because the condition has not improved, although I have eaten simple food with no spices etc for the last days. It is simply impractical and irritating for me to shit 3-4 times pr day. I have the same pattern as the last poster; go to toilet in the morning, and after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can perhaps hold it in, but then I will feel very weird. hehe. especially if traveling, this is not convenient!

Robby nz; sorry to hear about your rectal cancer. That sounded bad.

This condition could have been triggered by stress and anxiety. But it has persisted now for 3-4 weeks, which is a bit long...

  12. Some weeks ago I had diarrhea, but stopped it by taking some pills. Then a week later or so, a new problem arose: I now need to shit three times every day. Often, I need to go to the toilet something like an hour or less after every meal. But it is not really diarrhea. And I am not eating THAT much. This conditioned has remained for 2-3 weeks by now, and it is starting to irritate me.

I tested my blood, to see if there was any infection or something which could explain this. The doctor gave me some medicine, something called Antispasmodics, which I believe should make the food pass slower through the intestine, and something called Gastrobismol. I took these for a few days, but it did not help.

Anyone have a clue what could be the reason for this condition, what I could do about it, or where I should seek advice? The doctor at the hospital did not have anything more to say, but perhaps I should try some Anti-diarrhea pills and see if that would help, as the condition has some similarities with Diarrhea?

  13. This is handy... I am looking for a webdesigner too... When I find someone I am content with, I will let you know. Chok dii, good luck.

Btw, what is the price for a fairly simple website but with decent design? On Bali t is around 1,2 mill Rupiah/ 90 Euro.

    Hi,

I came across this guy, and he seems to be good:  kudosstudio.com

    address: 9/23 Moo 1, Tambon

    Chang Phuak, Muang, Chiangmai 50300

    telephone: 083-152-4278

    e-mail: [email protected]

For websites, I got the impression that he would charge something similar to what you mention would be the cost at Bali.

  14. I see Chiang Mai as a nice city; quite beautiful, the costs of living is decent, there are all kinds of facilities available (medical etc, should one need it), a rich cultural life and a good community of foreigners, lots of alternative health treatments and courses, good supplies of healthy/organic food etc. I like the possibility of staying in a western standard 130 m2 apartment, for about 20-25.000 baht a month, etc. I believe there are few places in the world, where all these things can be found, at a similiar cost.

Despite all of this, I am considering to move elsewhere in the near future. Are there other cities in South-east Asia (or in Asia, or in the world!), whic offers the things listed above, with a similar living cost? Would be very interested to get feedback on this. I have been thinking about countries like Vietnam, the Philippines etc, just as examples. But I guess the main difference could be that the availability of healthy food and alternative treatments/courses/meeting places etc, might be less. It could also be interesting to know if there are other cities/areas in Thailand, which might offer many of the same things. I know there are a lot of beautiful places in the south etc, but if my aim is to live there for at least a few months, rent a decent condo etc, it is probably not so suitable? Maybe Pattaya could be something, but I guess it is much more expensive?

If anyone has input on places I could check out, I would be interested also in links showing condo rentals etc, if possible.

  15. I have recorded 19 songs for acoustic guitar in Chiang Mai, and will record a few more. Some of them could use some vocals, sung by a man or a woman, or both. I will write some lyrics in english, and I am looking for one or more professional vocalists. Because the lyrics are in english, and I want the diction to be good, I assume it would be best to go for a westerner.

On myspace.com/aubertmetal , two songs for acoustic guitar can be heard; "Flowering" and "Grateful Farewell". Of the two, the latter might be suited for some vocals, at least if the song structure is changed a little bit. I have other songs for which I have vocals in mind specifically, but listening to these two songs can give an idea of the style.

PM me for more information if you are interested. I am staying here for quite some time, so the recording does not have to happen immediately.

  16. what the f&*k has this to do with Chiang Mai I would award it the most obscure topic in this forum ever though  :)

The reason I posted this in the CM forum, is because I live here, the product is produced here and sold here, and I thought maybe some one else in this town also buys this product or has interest in it. That's it.

From my perspective, obscure topics makes life richer!

  17. Hi cmbe, thanks for the information!

"The result is that the whey — which is a semi-clear liquid — will rise to the top, while the casein (which is heavier and coagulates in the presence of an acid or enzyme) will usually sink to the bottom."

    - Actually, in the store, they told me the opposite, in regards to the making of yoghurt (or was it cheese?): that they whey is in the liquid at the bottom, and the cheese/yoghurt is the solid stuff at the top. They showed me a container like that, and said the whey was at the bottom. Maybe they were wrong.

  18. You mean the price you could charge?

The goat Whey is being sold in bottles of 250cc (220ml or so?), for 40 baht pr bottle. I think it is overpriced. Better to sell in bigger bottles, for a more economic price, is my opinion.
