  1. ]I had my black trim up front and rear bumper painted body color, also installed a rear spoiler, not much of a "Mod" but I like it!

    cheap here in Manila!

anybody know where in thailand I can get ready cut trim stickers for Pajero sport, particularly wood grain or carbon fibre? Thanks

    Looking good :)

This place does real carbon and woodgrain kits, but they're full replacements not just stickers: http://www.fulloptionrealwood.com

Thanks for this pic - that's exactly what I need to get my side protection moldings installed in the correct location/height :) I've been looking for a direct side-on pic of these for the past 2 days!

  2. 5000 bt deposit to order a 700,000bt car , don't you mean 50,000 bt ? That's got to be 1 nights spending money on the town, amazing how would 5k make someone commit to spending the rest?

My dealer needed only 1,000 Baht :)

I see you can still have any colour, unless its black, grey, silver or white (with one model exception).

    Not very original IMO

That's only the base model - other models have more colors:

Chilli Orange, True Red, Phantom Blue (which is actually dark green), and Aurora Blue (which actually is blue)

1,150,000???? I got mine for 810,000 in December.

1.15M is the diesel powershift (DSG) model.

  3. DSG sold in Europe. 73% sold with diesel engine.

DSG top spec diesel gets fantastic reviews.

Maybe for Focus, yes, but not for Fiesta - The current model Fiesta's in Europe come with either a torque coverter 4-speed (1.4L only) or 5-speed MT (1.6L diesel and 1.6L petrol), but no 6-speed powershift yet, and no AT option at all for 1.6L engines of either type.

So far the only market that has 6-speed DSG in the Fiesta is North America. Thailand and it's export markets will be next (so TH, MY, PH, SG, AU, NZ and Middle-East). No info on when Ford Germany intends to release the DSG model though (it supplies all of Europe and for a very short time being, SG, AU and NZ)

  4. Well that sorts an argument out. An American guy with a 2.7 Fortuner said it would see off my 3.0 D Vigo, l said no way chum, mind you he didn't know about my additional race chip, should have raced him. :D

I'm dissapointed TA - you should have known better with all the discussions we've had on these forums :D

No chip necessary to see off a 2.7L Fortuner or VIGO - you could even have them in an AT Yaris :)

As for turbo lag, just use the brake + throttle for a bit of manual "launch control" and there is no lag - I use this method from time-to-time to see off all the young "fast & furious" boy racers we get around here in their old Civics & Corollas with monster exhaust pipes heehehe :)

Don't overdo it though, or you'll just sit there smoking rubber..

  5. Does anybody know if the New Fiesta back seats fold flat like the Jazz? I'm seriously considering a Fiesta after all the positive reviews and I am looking for a small economical car, but I need to transport a couple of bikes regularly, so before this I have been looking at the Jazz as it's perfect for this.

No they don't. The Fiesta seat-back folds down, but the seat squabs don't move, so it's not a 'flat' floor when folded down. It works similar to the lower model Yaris', except it's much deeper trunk area then Yaris.

  6. I don't agree on pricing as you explain. I brought a focus a few months back, and they quickly took 100K off the sticker price and still gave me all the "freebee's" and if the car is made here in thailand, no import tax, and cost here are so much cheaper..... price should be lower IMO

eh? We're talking about the Fiesta..

Hi are you shure those MPG figures are correct i just converted the 35 MPG for the Jaz to KPL and it comes out just a tad under 15 Km Per Ltr, not much more than a Pick up.

    Regards

    TB

These are the official EPA numbers from the USA - the only other market to have the powershift (DSG) version of the Fiesta so far. Reference Here

  7. You don't need a foreign driving license as a prerequisite to a Thai driver's license.

If you don't have one all it'll mean is doing the full gamut of exams - reaction/eyesight, written test and practical driving test.

You'll need the standard documents of course - medical certificate, certificate of residence, and qualifying visa, but these apply whether you have a license from abroad or not.

  8. Agree with proximity, except I'd recommend filling your tires with 'storage pressure' to try and avoid flat-spotting - i.e. fill the tires to their rated maximum pressure. However, the tires will deflate with time, so it'll really only work for 6 months or so.

The best option would be if you could get someone (trustworthy) to drive the car (just to operating temp is enough) and refill the tires once a month or so.

  9. All you need to get is the Tabien Rot (blue book) with an entry showing that the vehicle is now in your name. If you give the finance company a few days notice of your intentions it's sometimes even possible to get this on the same day you pay the finance out - at least that's been my experience the 3 times I've done it..

  10. I've owned a Yaris since 2007, and have test driven all competitiors, including the new Fiesta (during it's whirlwind dealership tour in May).

I'd compare a Yaris evenly against the Mazda 2, and I'd place both of those under the the current Honda Jazz. But the Fiesta it a TKO on all fronts - styling, performance, NVH, ecomony, safety, and features - and it does it at the same prices. The only competitor that trumps the Fiesta in any area is the Jazz, with it's fantastically versatile interior.

Resale is a different story of course - any Tier 1 brand will outperform Tier 2 in this regard, but in reality the difference at the prices talked about here is going to be 50K Baht or so, so factor that over the time you intend to keep the car and ask yourself whether it's a palatable premium to own a superior vehicle.

Thats one fine little Car, well done Ford.

Sorry to edit your post, but that word may well be the problem - comparing them in the flesh it looks much the same as a Mazda 2 but is quite a bit more expensive, and looks quite a bit smaller (and arguably less attractive, both inside and out) than a Yaris but is similarly priced. Not everyone who drives an automatic cares about whether its got a "high tech 6 speed dual clutch auto" - thats why they buy automatics. It'll need some heavy marketing to make much impression on Honda and Toyota and its biggest attraction (new) may be its rarity - not such an attraction second-hand.

Everyone has their own way of seeing things - which is great otherwise we'd all be driving the same cars, wearing the same clothes, and chasing the same women :D

  11. The BCM is a pretty substantial piece of custom hardware, that also requires a connected PC with custom software. Even if someone figured it all out, the expense would be ridiculous.

Just get your dealer to do it - if they don't understand the request, contact head office and have them explain it to the dealership :)

  12. From what I have read, it would seem that some people are of the opinion that in terms of safety, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sporty is in fact better than the Fortuner.

Just want to clarify that I never said that :)

All I did is provide counter-evidence to another poster's quite serious but flawed assertation that an Estima (MPV) is safer than the SUV's being discussed ;)

  13. Would be nice if you could order it with side airbag curtains , comes with them or is an option in the West, but cannot get them here . I guess Ford and Toyota and most of the other makes figure life is cheap here so why bother :(

It's not the manufacturers, it's the market.

Airbags were in luxury makes 10+ years before they became optional, then mainstream, then essential in the West. Given Thai attitudes and the price they add to the product, it'll take much, much longer here. You'd need to convince Thai's to use seatbelts and not load half the village into to back of an open pickup first - good luck with that :D

  14. A Fiesta 5 door top spec white has been ordered at 699k.

Exactly what I ordered back in May :) Let's see if they can keep their August delivery promise for mine..

they probably can do august/september, must supply the dealer demos/showrooms first, and the rentalcompanies dont have the Ford urge (yet). But do you really want one of the first 3000 units?

If it were a new design, no way! But that's not the case here...

I'm kind of hoping that it works in my favor, and that the workers aren't getting lazy/complacent in the first production run, and the QA/QC guys are watching everything like a hawk so they can learn the type of things to pick up with a casual glance in the future ;)

  15. From what I have read, it would seem that some people are of the opinion that in terms of safety, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sporty is in fact better than the Fortuner. The Mitsuhishi website isn't exactly "farang friendly" so if any of you knowledgeable people would like to fill me in on the Pro's and Con's it would be much appreciated. I would be particularly interested in the safety features, both active and passive, including air bags / VSC (stability control) / ABS EBD BA etc. – but I would also be interested in comments on critical comfort aspects such are ride quality, comfort of the seats, electronic features, over all practicality such as "the doors are too small" or "the turning circle is great" …… etc. and of course the all important performance such as fuel efficiency and 0-60 performance (and more importantly the 60-0!).

The Fortuner 3.0 V 4x2 AT bests the Pajero Sport GT on safety with it's VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) - otherwise they both have BA, EBD, ABS and 2x Airbags.

Here's some more performance numbers (measured using a G-Tech/Pro)

    0-100 KM/Hr - average of 4 runs:

    Fortuner 2.7V 4AT 4X4: 15.12

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4X4: 13.28

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4X2: 12.71

    Pajero Sport 3.2 4AT 4X4: 13.91

    Pajero Sport 2.5 4AT 4X2: 15.11

    80-120km/hr, average of 4 runs:

    Fortuner 2.7V 4AT 4x4: 11.35

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4x4: 10.3

    Fortuner 3.0v 4AT 4x2: 10.14

    Pajero Sport 3.2 4AT 4x4: 10.86

    Pajero Sport 2.5 4AT 4x2: 12.35

    Top Speed:

    Fortuner 2.7V 4AT 4x4: 160 @ 4300/4th

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4x4: 185 @ 3500/4th

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4x2: 185 @ 3500/4th

    Pajero Sport 3.2 4AT 4x4: 182 @ 3600/4th

    Pajero Sport 2.5 4AT 4x2: 172 @ 3400/4th

Fuel Economy (@110km/hr, 94km highway route):

    Fortuner 2.7V 4AT 4x4: 9.02 km/l

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4x4: 10.63 km/l

    Fortuner 3.0v 4AT 4x2: 12.37 km/l

    Pajero Sport 3.2 4AT 4x4: 11.61 km/l

    Pajero Sport 2.5 4AT 4x2: 12.68 km/l

Braking 100km/hr - 0, average of two runs (dry, factory wheels/tires @ recommended inflation):

    Fortuner 3.0V 4AT 4x4 with 265/65R17: 43.3M

    Pajero Sport 3.2 4AT 4x4 with 265/70R16: 45.2M (Note: 2009 Model - the 2010 has 17" wheels)

I don't normally share my subjective thoughts, but NVH (in cabin) is pretty similar, as is ride quality (except Fortuner Sportivo - it's hard as a rock). Styling is a matter of personal preference and level of importance I guess. I'm quite particular about interior aesthetics (that's what I see the most right? :) ), which in the end tipped the balance in favor of the Pajero Sport for me. YMMV :D

At the end of the day, they're both really quite close - the PJS has a little less power and no VSC, but a nicer/more practical interior and keener price to offset. Whatever you choose, you'll be delighted - they're great motors for the money. On a different day with the wind coming from a different direction, I could have just as easily bought the Fortuner ;P

Sorry for edits - I can't spell today

  16. Oh, have you looked into plugging into the computer on the pajero and what might be possible? I wonder if we can tweak the odd thing like, indicator flash 3 times on a soft touch etc..your thoughts, somethings must be possible as i spyed the connector under the dash...

Also done - the Mistsubishi engineer added "3 flashes on tap" and "auto door unlock on Park" when he re-programmed the ECU to solve a gear change issue I was experiencing. It's not a DIY though I'm afraid - a custom diagnostics tool hooks into the connector you're seeing (it's quite a substantial thing - about the size of a box of tissues), then it connects via USB to a PC with custom Mitsubishi software.

BTW, the only tax you should pay on your chip is 7% VAT on declared value - at least that was my experience.

  17. Then why didn't that happen with the ford focus, which overseas is probably the worlds best selling car?

Wrong segment to do it with. In Thailand, lower B segment and pickups are what you need to gain position in your brand tier.

Mazda 3 also proves this - it sold well for class & tier, but it took the Mazda 2 to push Mazda market share up enough to make a real difference. Mazda 3 sales leaped after the release of the 2..

Also I'd say the two cars (Fiesta and Mazda2) are much more similar than you seem to think.

Please feel free to enlighten me :)

  18. You can get a lot of car for $20,000 in the states and even 14,000 pounds in the UK buys you a lot of car nowadays.

The point I was trying to make is that if you compare the price of the top model Fiesta in the EU/USA/UK/Aus to the top model Yaris/Jazz/City in the same market then work out the difference as a %, then apply that % to Thai prices of the same, you'll find that the local pricing for Fiesta is sharp. :"Compare it to relative prices abroad" seemed a much faster way to say it ;)

In relation to whats available here its against the Mazda 2 (same car probably) and toyota's and honda's offerings at the same price, brand loyalty will lie with the japanese manufacturers there I think.

While there is still technology sharing between Ford and Mazda, in the case of Fiesta and Mazda2, the similarities start and end at the floorpan.

Agreed RE: brand loyalty, but there's another factor that can't be overlooked....

Thai motoring journalists must write accurately and fairly about the car, lest be totally discredited amongst their global peers. That means that Somchai average will be getting a face-full of positive press on the car, and the power of the media is not to be underestimated. If Ford Thailand can get their dealership network into shape quickly enough, and work hard on delivering good customer service, and wrap up some attractive financing plans, they will be well positioned to take the top spot in Thailand's 2nd Tier. (Tier 1 being Toyota and Honda).

While it would be unprecedented to improve overall market position by that much with a single model, with the Fiesta it's doable, if handled correctly. And if they do, they'll be well positioned to even take on Tier one when the new Focus, Mondeo and Ranger release in 2012.

  19. If LOS Ford dealers are unable to sell this one, they have a serious problem. Price and product is perfect, dealerships and name established, get to work :)

Agreed, this car is an absolute gift to the Ford Thailand marketing manager, as it just sells itself.

Hi katabeachbum, are those prices considered good? Considering the cars are made in LOS I would have thought the bean counters could start with a sharp pencil!

BSJ, 699K Baht for the top model is a very sharp price, whether you compare it locally against the competiton, or whether you compare it to relative prices abroad.

    The Fiesta stands out with:

    • Class leading power (121HP with 151Nm - closest is Jazz with 120HP and 145Nm but with much narrower torque band)
    • Class leading fuel economy (40MPG vs 35 for Jazz, 36 for Yaris)
    • Class leading NVH and handling (considered by most professional reviewers to rival C and even D class)
    • Class destroying transmission (6-speed DSG)
    • Class leading safety (Electronic Stability Program)
    • Class leading features (Voice control, USB, Bluetooth)

Is it me, or is it looking very much like a Mazda 2?

I think it's just because these newer models feature some common design traits (trapezoidal front, strong waistlines, wedge shape, cab forward etc). In the flesh they look very different.

  20. Good work mate, i see you are like me you want it just right....kudos

Yep there is an alpine site for changing the wall papers, .apn files...but not for colour changing that bloody blue on th HU..

    https://i-personaliz...mmon/ip_menu.pl

Where did you get the time delay power supply? or easy to put together (yep lucky it`s a 12v unit)..havn`t researched it yet,but i would like to leave the original psu for in home intacked...i see a bit of soldering coming up again...like the idea of the front mount 2 usb`s on the lower facia, oh, and is it easy to get to the screen rear connections?

Thanks for the link - looks like it may be a resource for looking up other comaptible head units for the LCD screen too..

I made the PSU from schematics I found on the internet - if you do a search you'll find plenty of them.. Purchased the raw components and veroboard from Amorn: http://www.amorngroup.com/en/home.php

It's dead easy to get to the LCD screen, let me try to explain w/out pics :)

Slide a credit card in between the dash panel and the bottom edge of the LCD screen, then use it to pull the dash panel directly backwards (the CC is so you don't mark the screen or plastics). Note you'll need to give it a bit of a tug to release the pressure-fit clips. Once the bottom clips are out, work the dash panel off it's upper clips - there's no screws holding it on at all. From there it's just 4 philips-head screws to take the screen out - mind the wriring harnesses as you do this though, as there's a few edges they can get caught up on.

There's a fair amount of room back there for things like WDTV's and custom PSU's as you'll see :)
