The annoyed feeling I get here so often will make me leave this country soon, 8 years (Chiangmai, of all places) is enough ! If you see improvements it may be worth to give it a chance, but really it's seems getting worse and worse, they are not polite anymore, in restaurants they smash the food on your table, not keep the door open for the person behind them, jumping the que... etc etc, ignorance is the new enemy of this country.

If someone smashes my food down on the table, they don't get a tip, its a simple as that.

And I dont think that Thai people use a lot of Salt & mayo.

Indeed, huge amounts of sugar and MSG in every food are the magic words that make those weird peeps smile...

Expats who have experience with both Thailand and Philippines, how would you describe the differences regarding visa, climate, culture, people, living comfort, safety, economy etc... ?

Not really ontopic, but in case of an accident eventual traffic rules will have no value, as a foreigner you must be very lucky not to be held responsible, simply because of the color of your skin.

I was cut off on my motorbike by a very arrogant Thai woman in a car who crossed my lane from the other side and hit her car, she was 100% wrong, but the Chiangmai touristpolice treathened with long and complicated trouble, chance to loose visa etc. if I would not simply accept responsibility (it's only 7000 bath, more easy for you...) very weird. I hate Thailand for that.

They are just not fair. So do like me drive like an idiot like the Thai and you are most safe, rules are nothing here, even owners of drivingschools don't know how to drive...

As recently as this past weekend, I can confirm that both Bangkok Bank and Bank of Ayuthaya are NOT charging any fees for foreign card ATM withdrawals, so best to use these - at least for the time being.

Sri Lankan and other airlines say that the traveler needs to posses the credit card used to buy the ticket, AND the name on that credit card needs to be a traveller... I can't believe they're serious? My Thai girfriend's coming to China a few days after me and I used my card to buy her ticket. I think I'll just give her my card for a few days and a note saying "sorry, but for emergency reasons I wasn't able to accompany my wife on this trip, please allow her to board, signed -farang" of course she isn't my wife, and there was no emergency. Will it work? Are they really going to turn away a customer at the gate??

Many Dutch like me don´t have (and often don´t want) creditcards, in Holland they are not very popular. We are not Americans who can't live without. We all have atm credit- or debitcards usaually from more banks. Creditcard is not accepted in most of supermarkets in Holland, they are nothing more then rip off companies are you give control of your finance to others.

Are you extra torrential? Don't really know "just like us" is don't know your nationality. If she is in PI and plans longer than a 30 day trip (no return/onward ticket within 30 days) it is not likely she will be allowed on aircraft without a visa. Once in country she can obtain the same 15 day visa exempt entries on border crossings.

I just got a new Dutch passport, I heard I should go to the immigration to have visa and stamps etc. transferred to the new passport, I also heard I don't need to do that, can just present the old and new passport together to the customs when leaving the country. After 3 weeks I'm leaving for 20 days, what should I do ?

For your information a democracy is where the people turn out and vote for the party they want to lead them. On the last 3 occasions the ruling Democratic Party has LOST. This is not an opinion its a fact - look it up. Abisit has NO mandate from the people. If Thailand was a democracy Abhisit would dissolve parliament, go to the country and let the people choose their MP's and Prime Minister - not have it decided by a mob who occupies Thailands principal airport until their will is met.
