  1. Do the writers at the nation fully understand what they are writing?

They're constantly contradicting themselves and writing absolute drivel. The Nation prints what it wants people to read!!! I find it insulting that they really think foreigners are so stupid that we don't understand the concept of 'propaganda'!

Print your newspaper in Thai. You make 'The Sun' newspaper look like the Gospel!

P.s Sort out your script, Thaivisa!

Many items in newspapers are reports of what other people have said. it's obvious that there will be conflict accross what the 'other people' have said. Is that the fault of the newspaper? Of course not.

Or perhaps your suggesting that if there is concfict across two reports, of what other people have said, then the newspaper should change the stories so that they are consistent?

By the way, what do you mean by your comment: "P.s Sort out your script, Thaivisa!"

Nope. I don't mean that at all. Go back and read it properly.

HTML script. That's what I meant.

You make no sense writing contradicting points of view is what balanced journalism is. Yet you take obsession to them when they do. Best you stick with your one channel and one corresponding newspaper.

I am in no way endorsing the Nation but they at least try. DO YOUR SOURCES?

I assume you're a moderator so your nose is firmly up 'The Nation's' proverbial. Writing conflicting reports is what balanced journalism is?

Newspapaers usually pick a side. So for the nation they've obviously chosen the yellows. Some nation journalists are very pro yellow and some are moderate. But by no means be mistaken that they're yellow. So when you write a stupid report saying that the reds are writing pro red material and the blues are doing the same; you may as well admit you do it yourself. And when you pretend to be holier than thou, and someone with half a brain can see that you're not, you look stupid!

I am glad to see that you're allowing people to critisise th nation and not deleting their blogs anymore for pointing out their constantly 'imbalanced' jornalism.

Now do you understand my point? This article is patronising. Maybe you've been here so long you're immune to being patronised.

I can't beleive you're defending the nation and saying the jounlism is balanced. They try? They try what? To spell and grammar check their articles?

  5. Not a matter of needing understanding but a matter of being given respect and recognition of the true contribution the productive people of this country deserve.

Unfortunately those who sit on their chuffs in offices have an inflated value of themselves and look down on those who produce their food, build their houses and produce the consumer goods they fill their lives with.

These are people who cannot and will never be able to produce anything themselves and are in fact only support for the productive people, unfortunately in many cases their superior attitude means that they turn themselves into obstructive parasites on those who do the real work.

Until those who are called upon to build a house, repair a leaking tap or sort out an electrical problem are given the recognition and respect, living conditions and yes financial return their expertise deserves, along with those who grow the rice and vegetables, catch the fish and produce the meat for the tables of the so called white collar “workers’ then their conditions will never improve.

In most western countries the builders, farmers and those who produce the wealth of the country are held in respect by most and receive a decent return , that is what needs to happen here.

When have you last spoken to a US Farmer or one from the European Union....?

And yeah, this threads title: them, not us!

    some opinion, why highlght it?

is there since a paranoia growing that the seed a certain party tried to saw may germinate?

I don't think'so....those involved won't stop to agitate too soon, because they aren't happy with just a share, they want it all.... how was this song..."I want it all...!

There's always one isn't there. Most farmers and construction workers in Thailand have nothing. Awful pay and working out in the hot sun all day. How can you compare farmers in the EU and US to the ones of Thailand?

We're talking about the working class people of Thailand, not the developed world. They're seen as expendable and people look down on them. Any logical thinker would respect these kinda people because who wants to do their job? I know I certainly don't. But someone has to!

Where I come from we respect the working class. In Thailand they respect the rich.

  6. With all the crap that went on at the time, he certainly was a convenient distraction.

I remember how angry some locals were with him, and I was thinking 'you're missing the bigger picture'. Most of these people who were so mad have forgotten all about it.

Like I said at the time, "don't worry about him, let the authorities do what they deem necessary'. Worry about what's really going on in this country.

  7. Good! And I hope a load of other big international buisnesses leave, too. I work for an international comany here, and I've seen first hand how much red tape there is and how utterly arrogant the government is. A lot of international companies know this and move to countries that welcome foreign investment. This is what we call 'developing'.

The mentality of the goverment seems to have trickled down on to a lot of Thai peope. Like the Thai woman who asked me 'How can you work here? You're not Thai' The real paradox is a lot of Thai people wanna work for international companies and not their own, because they pay better and actually encourage and have prospects (Promotion, salary increase etc)

But what do I know? I've only seen for myself Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.

  8. "This question deserves a prompt response from the Thai government as well as our armed forces, now that we know so much about Hun Sen's intentional encroachment on <STRONG><U>our</U></STRONG> land and sea territories."<BR><BR>Reminds me of the kind of bulls*** reporting you'd read in the British 'The Sun' newspaper.<BR><BR>Nationalism?  What's wrong with loving your country?  Nothing wrong with loving your country.  But you don't have to show how much you love it by hating other countries.<BR><BR>

  9. I live in Thailand but am not Thai. I genuinely worry about Taksin ever coming back to Thailand. I really hope he doesn't come back ever, even if it was to go to prison. I hope he just stays out of the country and wish no one would ever talk about him again.

In a perfect world he'd come here, do his time (which in my opinion should be life) and never be allowed to practise politics again. He should have an asbo blocking him from speaking to any politicians or going anywhere near any government buildings.

I think if he ever comes back here in any shape or form, he'll be basking for blood. Life is cheap in Thailand and he has money. I believe this man would want to kill anyone who betrayed him or who doesn't agree with him.

I worry, and I have the luxury of just upping sticks and moving. Most Thai people I know don't have that luxury.

  10. move on. visit some developed country. problem solved.

Developed countries don't offer the same "recreation" at the same price...

No, no. This poster is right. If you don't like being bullied and munipulated on holiday, don't go to Phuket. Go to the south of France. Such a simple concept. Only one problem, though. Thailand advertises itself as a top holiday destination and even has the moto 'Amazing Thailand, amazing value'

Phuket obviosuly doesn't need tourists so let them all leave and never come back. Never complain in Thailand.

  11. If Farang wants to come to Thailand, they should contribute to the local economy too.

Next time, they bring their own van, to visit their own bars, and drink their own beers, and perhaps even import their own girls (from the Philippines).

And I hope if the Thai navy ever visit the coast of the States they recieve the same treatment. But of course they won't because that is not how developed countries welcome guests.

Tourists don't have to use the tuk tuks. It's up to them how they get from A to B.

Where did these people get that feeling of self-entitlement to tourists money? it's a dangerous game when you look at tourists like they're second class citizens.

  12. BBC lie, CNN lie, The Thai Govenment lie and the Thai media lie.

    Three words; pot, kettle, black.

Thais don't care what foreigners think. None of our business. Keep watching the Thai media because they report what the government want people to hear. Nation included.

We now have the internet. There is a ridiculous number of sources people can use to get information. Why keep watching BBC and CNN? Ha ha, they're the only two English speaking news channels I have on my cable.

I like Abbisit and despise Taksin. But at the end of the day, it's just a different set of old greedy wanke_rs pulling the strings.

  13. Judging from the leading peaceful countries, New Zealand and Iceland, it would seem the key to peacefullness is to be situated in a remote location with no bordering countries.

    Indeed. Theres no disputing that.

    What about the uk then

    What about it?

We now have our first hung parliament for the first time in a long time. The transition of powers went smoothly with no problems. That's democracy.

I can't remember seeing any Labour or Gordon Brown fanatics burning down parts of London.

  14. Well what about foreign investment?

Foreign investment has nothing to do with Tourism. Many - if not most - places that have huge foreign investment are never visited by tourists and probably never will be. Tourists are not that big on looking at oil fields, for example. Foreign investment is run by strict internal business formulas that discount for stability, etc.

What are the income tax brackets in Thailand?

I never said it had anything to do with tourism. My reply was to a foreigner here who seems to think that 'foreigners' here in Thailand serve no purpose and Thailand would be fine without them.

My point is that what he said was absolute BS.
