  1. Very sad indeed. I hope she doesn't recieve the death penalty.

As for her ruining other peoples' lives; 'adults' who take drugs really must take more resposibility for their problem. I don't take drugs simply because I don't want to. If no one is forcing you to take drugs but you do, and you completely mess up your life - Well then you are the biggest party to put the blame on.

  2. You've just got to learn to ignore all this and represent yourself. Places like Pattya, Nana, Khoa Samui etc have people like this but you just have to avoid them. There are many great places here with top foreigners who like myself - keep themselves to themselves.

I always find that if you smile, act polite and considerate, the Thais will love you. They can form their opinions on foreigners but I think they're quite fair when treating individually with respect if you do the same.

When I first came to Thailand I was shocked and offended by all the whoring and drinking. Now I couldn't give a shit. Let them do what they like. As long as they're consenting adults, let them live like this. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying it's not for me.

  3. It's definitely universal in Thailand. They have so much contempt and resentment for foreign staff 'cos we earn more. Yet when we're their seniors they are so up our asses. All they do is act nice with each other all day and gossip about each other behind each other's backs.

I'm not being rude or ignorant but I have nothing to say to the staff at my place unless it's work related. They're horrible squabbling degenerates who take great pleasure out of other people's poor misfortune. If you have nothing nice to say to somebody, say nothing at all. (I must reiterate that this is my company I'm talking about)

  4. Here is an etiquette question: After moving to a new job in a different organization a few months back, I will still have occasional meetings with my former colleagues for follow-up on ongoing projects. As we are not colleagues any more, shall I wai them or not?

    Knowing that:

    - My departure from the former job was on friendly terms.

    - When working together and seeing each other every day as colleagues, we did not wai each other.

    - We are in the same age range (7 years between the youngest and the oldest).

    - I was one of the youngest in the team, so if a wai is advisable next time I meet them, the initiative should come from me (hence the question!).

    - Hierarchically I was at the same level as them, not in a higher or lower position.

Thanks for any input or experience,

Is this a serious post? I'm all for wying to respect Thai culture but at the end of the day; I don't think Thais care if foreigners wye or not. You're foreign, you're not Thai and you never will be.

I never wye anyone at work. Shake hands sure, but never wye. Shake hands the first time we meet, but not all the time. As for the Thai staff in my company, they're all a bunch of gossiping back stabbers. They're all smiles and hellos when they come in. But as soon as they can they're slagging each other off. I'm not wying people like this. (I don't even do small talk unless it's work related)

  5. All banks are awful. Thai banks on the other hand are completely foreign to me. I had to pay for my ATM card. The interest rate is awful and I have to pay money to withdraw money from my own bank's ATM outside of Bkk. (I think it's anywhere outside of Bkk, I've been charged everywhere I've been)

Also there is some rule where you can only withdraw from Thai banks outside of your own twice a month before being charged. My girlfriend told me everyone here knows this and just accept it. Okay, I accept this. All I want is a simple message "You will be charged 5 Baht for making this transaction. Do you wish to continue?"

Call me old fashioned but I like to know every time a bank wants to sting me; even if is only 5 Baht!

As for you original post - you should be able to dictate how much you withdraw. The bank try to protect you from thieves by limiting your with-drawls but I think you can tell them how you want it to be.

  6. This about sums up the Thai government and how they treat their citizens and own people.

Well I assume the boy wants to remain in Thailand so he can study and work here in the future. What he should do is get a Burmese passport. Stay in Thailand but represent Burma in this competition. Hopefully he would win, and no longer would he be a threat to national security; he would just be a threat to national embarrassment.

For me, it's not about where your parents are from, or even where you are born. It's about where you are raised that defines your nationality the most. But who knows? Maybe if Burma decide to come in and batter Thailand for the millionth time, he would be fighting for the Burmese. You really have to be careful you know!

  7. Death by injection; how Bhuddist.

I met a Thai man once who said he enjoyed archery. I asked him if he ever hunted animals to which his reply was 'no way! I'm Bhuddist' I replied 'you do eat animals though?' To which he replied 'yes'. (Hunting and eating animals is wrong don't you know)

I don't agree with executing people for their crimes. The reason for this is; what happens when you condemn an innocent man to death? You've negated every other execution before.

Lad Yao = Talk is cheap. You don't know what you'd do to one of you own until it happens. Please don't speak if you have no experience on this. I have a daughter and if she was caught selling Yabba, yea, i'd be pissed, but disown her? No <deleted>*king way!

  8. If you do terminate one or more of your Thai staff, don't be surprised if some or all of their friends quit on you. They place a lot of stock in supporting their friends. A friend of mine dismissed one person and five quit in support of their friend. Can you afford to lose more than just the one?

Is this a funny joke? Thais having each other's backs. What next?

  9. In my experience, Thai women and men love looking down their noses at people. They love looking down on Laos, Cambodia etc. But when they go to England, Japan or Korea Etc, they hate when they're looked down on! The amount of times I've heard that English people are rude and look down on people. I simply say 'It's not nice, is it?'

My experience of Laotian Ladies is that they are much more humble. They appear traditional and don't care much for material items. Most Thais are obsessed with I-phones and Luis Vuitton bags etc.

I've never asked a Laotian girl what she likes to do in her free time. I wouldn't be surprised if her answer was somewhat similar to a Thai person 'I like sleeping, eating and playing video games' If she says she enjoys the work of Tchaikovsky, bag her! Or if you're like most farangs here and don't enjoy or participate in decent conversation with your other half, run!

  10. Yea, it's a metaphor for 'be careful' I don't really expect anyone to put two condoms on.

Sure thing, but its a metaphor that many people take seriously. I know a lot of people actually believe two or three condoms are better than one.

I can honetly say I've never met anyone who's worn two or even 'three' condoms. If it gets to the point where you're so scared of catching something from a particualar girl that you resort to wearing two or three condoms - then it's time to say no to sex with that girl.

If your friends or people you know are doing this, it's about time you question who exactly you're socialising with.

Maybe Forest Gump wore two condoms.

  11. As conservative as Thai people might seem, I've been with a few promiscuous girls. Not prostitutes, just normal girls. I've been told that Thai men don't like to wear condoms (I know this is a gross generalisation) I'm just quoting.

My advice to anyone is; wear a condom. They're cheap, easy to slip on, and 97% safe (I think) If you're a man who enjoys the company of a lady of the night - double bag it!

  12. More racism your GF comments. Her mother paid off for her ID did you know that or do you even care :D .

Frankly we who live here don't need your sympathy if you want to help get rights for all of us buckle down and help.

Frankly I get more tired of the guys living here than I do the locals. :)

I don't care, that's my point. Thought I'd made that quite obvious. Rights? I have rights, In my own country. Thai people don't even have rights here unless they have money.

I live here too, just like you. Maybe I should take to the streets and spill blood? I know her mother bought her way into citizenship- Why on earth would I want to do that? (I'm not running from anything and I'm not some nomad escaping from repression)

You knew from the beginning what life would be like here, but you chose to fight after. By all means, fight the power. My ancestors fought and died for the rights I enjoy today, and I 100% appreciate that. But as for Thailand, it has to come from the inside out.

"Frankly I get more tired of the guys living here than I do the locals" Sorry I make you tired, sorry the locals make you tired, everyday must be a chore.

I have a good set up, and if one day the Thai government take it all way, I'd be massively pissed. But I won't have lost anything I couldn't afford to. Immigration interview me once a year 'why you have no children? Buy no property?' Easy! Because you bunch of wanke_rs could take it away from me without a moments thought.

Thanks for your empathy though. And once again, sorry you're so tired of everybody here.

My g'f is racist? I really don't care about that, even if it were true. Thai people, asians, the French, Peruvians etc etc can say what they like about me and 'my kind' Stupid farang this, stupid farang that. I know who I am.

  13. You have to be oriental to be Thai. My gf's mother is Vietnamese. She has a Thai passport and ID card etc. I jokingly said to my g/f, if your mum can be a citizen, then so can I. She quickly and sharply replied 'never!' I was curious and asked why? She said her mum looks Thai, and I don't. (My g'f really is a nice person, it's just she has it ingrained in her)

The bottom line is, this is a developing country, in every aspect. I don't wanna be Thai, I don't bang on about how I love the culture and suck up, cos to be honest, they don't always like it. I'm from England, and proud. I have a good job here, I pay tax, keep my head down, offend no one, stick to the letter of the law and mind my own business.

I have a country I can go back to any time, where I have rights that I'm happy with, people who respect me and call me their own. Better to be a outside in someone else's country than your own.

I feel bad for the foreigners here with families who have the best intentions but have absolutely no rights. But at the end of the day, If I get married and have kids, I won't do it here. I'll take my g/f back to England and be safe in the knowledge that I will be treated fairly.

Best piece of advice I ever received about Thailand was 'don't take this place seriously, have fun, do what you need to do but expect nothing in the long run'

Mai pen rai and all that.

  14. Yes! Save the buffalo! If buffaloes (or is it 'buffali?') become extinct, people here might forget about them; therefore, the word 'kwai' or even 'buffalo' may be forgotten.

if this happens, what will I use as a joke to entice the ladies?

P.s I saw a cracking show on T.V about these two buffaloes who knelt before and prayed to Buddha. They were about to be executed by their owner until they ran away and knelt before buddha. The farmer quickly realised that killing these buffaloes might jeprodise his 'next life' (Being stinkin' rich and respected for it) so now they're worshiped by all in the village.

See how powerful the buffalo is? It brings out the best in all!

  15. Yes, very sad indeed, I've always wondered why the driver seems to flee a lot of them time.People need to be made aware of how dangerous some of these vehicles are. I can see myself that these big old, overcrowded trucks are a death trap, but maybe some of these people don't have a choice, get on, or no money for the day. I love Thailand, but when a group of people here pick up the 'mob mentality, It scares the living beejesus out of me, very dranconian. Good driving, bad driving, I can see why they might flee.

  16. It's pretty simple really. I don't smoke. So if the security guards or police accused me of smoking and littering, I would simply say to them the same thing I said to my friends at school after taking a girl behind the bike shed 'smell my fingers'

    Peace out.

  17. Is a list available where I can read which distinguished VIP's have been invited?

The likes of Jacky Chan, Jet Li....................... or Nippon Boy Bands? :)

Girl's Generation, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, Paula Taylor's boyfriend, more than likely the type of celebrity they would invite.

I can sum up all these people in three words: 'Shower of cu**s'

  18. I am not a religious person at all. I have no problems with people who are and I respect their right to believe what they want. But at the end of the day, no one should be forced to do anything that because of someone's idea or right or wrong. If you're religious and think drinking is bad, don't drink! If you're like me and can handle your drink, cause no one any problems and do it socially, go wild.

I never preach to anyone about being 100% non religious. So i don't expect people to preach to me.

Wouldn't life be so much easier if everyone just minded their own business?
