  1. facebook - just lie with name and date of birth, George Orwell was correct

They really don't care what your name or D.O.B is. If your using the computer they get your browsing habbits and history, IP address some say they even get your MAC address, not sure if that's true though. But if your using a mobile device forget it, they and your phone provider get everything, addresses, stored emails, phone lists, location. There is absolutely NO PRIVACY on a mobile device.

  2. A very easy and simple way to remove baidu and all it's registry entries is to go to

    1. ninite.com

    2. download and install the "Revo" it's under the "utilities" section. It is a very good uninstaller and will scan and remove all associated registry entries.

    3. After that is complete reboot your system

    4. Again go to ninite.com and download on of the mailware removal tools, personally I like the "Spybot 2" but "Malewarebytes" and "Ad Aware" are also very good

    5. Do a system scan for maleware and do the fix for any that is found.

That should fix you up nicely

  3. HUBBUB

    1. Car manufacturing hub

    2. Economic hub

    3. Foreign surgery hub

    4. Sports hub

    5. Medical hub

    6. etc...etc... etc...etc...

Now a vaccine hub, really. I'm constantly reading about Thailand's want to be the "-------" hub of something.

Before they can be the hubbub of anything they have to get the rest of the world to think that a military takeover of a democratically elected govt. is OK

UN Rejects Thailand From Rights Council

BANGKOK – Junta-ruled Thailand failed to secure enough votes to join the United Nations Human Rights Council yesterday, losing to four other Asian nations that applied for the seats.

Thailand, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, and Qatar were vying for four seats allotted to countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the UN rights group. Thailand was the only country not to make the cut, receiving 136 votes from members of the UN General Assembly, compared to 162 votes for India, 152 for Indonesia, 149 for Bangladesh, and 142 for Qatar.

Those four Asian nations will now join eleven other countries as new members of the UN Human Rights Council. They will serve a 3-year term starting on 1 January 2015.

There is no immediate reaction from Thai authorities.

    Sorry for the lengthy reply but;

The UN as an oversight body on anything, is nothing more than a joke. Something that once was perceived as a great world stabilizing force has morphed into nothing more than a humanitarian aid group. That’s all that they can seem to accomplish anymore. When it comes to sanctions or actions against any country for anything it only takes one permanent member to veto and poof nothing get accomplished.

Way to many examples of the UN’s ineffectiveness to go into here so I’ll just give 2 quick examples:

China and The Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989

The world criticized and complained the UN met and debated, China (a permanent member of the UN Security Council) objected and vetoed any and all attempts at sanctions or “punishment” if you will and nothing was done.

Russia and its current incursion in Ukraine

Russia (a permanent member of the UN Security Council) has objected and vetoed any and all UN attempt to sanction or punish Russia and poof they have annexed Crimea. Leaving but a handful of countries putting meager sanctions on them.

Not really pertaining to the UN but: The latest of the many Thai Coup’s. The US and a few other countries complained but no real pressure has been brought to bear. The USA’s response was a mere $3,000. Cut in military aid, which in reality is like saying “OK we’re going to cut 1 tank from your delivery this year” The EU has brought only slightly more pressure but no real sanctions with teeth.

Is it any wonder why many Americans think that it is time for the US to withdraw from the UN?

  6. You can attempt to repair bad sectors using chkdsk. In order to run this click 'start' and type the word 'command' in the search field. Click on 'command prompt'. Once you have done this enter the following into the black dos window

    chkdsk /f /r

This will attempt to repair any bad sectors it finds. If you complete this, we can see the log and tell you what the status of your drive is.

You would have to go to the "log viewer" to see the log and then it will give you only cryptic information on what is wrong with the drive. If you actually have bad sectors chkdsk /R is only a short term solution for a long term problem. My favorite utility for checking the integrity of a hard drive is: HD Tune it not only check IDE and SATA drives but also will check SSD drives. You can download the free version here

  7. Had a similar experience recently though only for a much shorter time.

The Thai embassy in Laos entered one date for my visa, but when I went through Immigration in Nong Kha they stamped a different date. I never looked at their stamp only the Visa stamp. But when I went for my extension the immigration officer told me and my wife that I had overstayed by a considerable amount of time. I of course said that I didn't and showed the Visa, he then showed me the immigration stamp. I was of course stupefied. He then said no problem, he has had many problems with that particular immigration officer recently and he should go back to school to learn to read. He then crossed out that immigration stamp, wrote in a new one, signed stamped and initialed everything, gave me my extension. No fine, no hassle very polite and wonderful experience.

  8. Try Hard Disk Sentinal it will tell you the state of your disk

either allaying or confirming your suspicions

    There is a trial version.

Also I think there may be a problem with W7 at the moment (I run the 64bit version)

Programmes can take for ever to load

but after a reboot all is well, for a while.

I've got the full pro version and it tells me that I've got some bad sectors, health down to 64% It doesn't change after a reboot.

Got also a PC , no problem with Google. Drive C's already backed up with Acronis, still don't know if I should buy a Hitachi, for 1,500 baht with a one year warranty ( seems to be made in Japan), or a Western Digital for 1,900 baht, both 500 GB, with a three year warranty. ( Made in Thailand).

My advice, go with the Hitachi, but my personal preference for HD is Samsung. I have had excellent track record with them over the years and a horrible one with WD Hard drives.

  9. A bad hard drive can cause many weird problems. As you have stated you have bad sectors, so it is certainly time for a replacement. Though I would suggest a clean install of your operating system and programs and then just restore your needed data from your current backup. It sounds like you may also have some maleware or virus issues.

If you don't have the original OS CD or know your installation key see this article to find out where to download any version of Windows installation CD and how to retrieve your installation key.

The US is a Constitutional Republic. It is not a Democracy!

    The USA is a democracy.

Abolutely true.. the USA is not actually a Democracy but a Republic based on Democratic principals. Just to prove a point we have had 4 Presidents who had not won the poplular vote, 1 of which won neither the popular vore nor the Electorial vote

In 1824 John Quincy Adams was elected president despite not winning either the popular vote or the electoral vote. Andrew Jackson was the winner in both categories. Jackson received 38,000 more popular votes than Adams, and beat him in the electoral vote 99 to 84. Despite his victories, Jackson didn’t reach the majority 131 votes needed in the Electoral College to be declared president. In fact, neither candidate did. The decision went to the House of Representatives, which voted Adams into the White House.

In 1876, Rutherford B. Hayes won the election (by a margin of one electoral vote), but he lost the popular vote by more than 250,000 ballots to Samuel J. Tilden.

In 1888, Benjamin Harrison received 233 electoral votes to Grover Cleveland’s 168, winning the presidency. But Harrison lost the popular vote by more than 90,000 votes.

In 2000, George W. Bush was declared the winner of the general election and became the 43rd president, but he didn’t win the popular vote either. Al Gore holds that distinction, garnering about 540,000 more votes than Bush. However, Bush won the electoral vote, 271 to 266.

We are governed by people we supposedly elect to perform in our best interest but it is painfully obvious to everyone that this is not really the case. We have just as much corruption as any other country and maybe more than some. We just call it political contributions, super pacs etc...

  12. October is incorrect. But that is just for new features anyway. So don't panic your good until 2020

No more new features for Windows 7 after January 2015.

    windows_r_200x150.jpg

This week, Microsoft issued a reminder to consumers that Windows 7 will exit Mainstream Support and enter the Extended Support phase on January 13, 2015. That means Windows 7 customers will still obtain security fixes until 2020, but the platform will no longer receive cool new features. This change affects all ten versions of the Windows 7 platform.

"Extended Support lasts for 5 years and includes security updates at no cost, and paid hotfix support. Additionally, Microsoft will not accept requests for design changes or new features during the Extended Support phase," states the support page.

Versions of Windows 7 going into Extended Support include Enterprise, Enterprise N, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Professional N, Starter, Starter N, Ultimate and Ultimate N. Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 will also enter Extended Support on January 13, 2015.

  13. Article from J and S computers

We do love our toys and we certainly can't live without them. But All the Tablets and the Mobile Phones have 1 drawback...storage. Yes they use the new solid state devices which prolongs our battery life and almost completely prevents data loss, but what about our stuff? With the tablets and the phones we only accumulate more of it.. So where do you put it all?
Fortunately I have some good answers. With the app's below you can store well over 1 Terabyte of data on line for free. That's right. Some of these app's like Google Drive and Microsoft’s OneDrive also allow some simple editing (separate app required for Google) and creation of documents on line; some are just folder syncing tools, while others allow you to store your stuff on line so you have access to anywhere anytime. So peruse the app's, sign up for one or all.

  14. A big part of the problem lies in the dissemination of information.  Many companies and schools have no idea of the paperwork or how to even go about hiring a foreign worker in the first place.

    Just a quick example here:

I recently did a job for one of the local govt. offices here.  It was teaching their staff and some local province leaders some rudimentary English skills.  It was a short term assignment English language development for their ASEAN preparation.  A teacher's license was not needed as I was not teaching in a school.  But still the correct visa and work permit were required.  It took them more than five months to get it together.

Granted some of it may be due to the different govt. in place between the time they offered me the job and when the job was to actually start.  The money was part of some type of grant or something put in place by the previous govt.  The local office was not actually paying me.

They had no idea of how to actually hire me after they came and asked me if I would teach the staff.  They finally went to the school I had worked for and had to ask them how to obtain my permit and what paperwork was needed.

In my case I had to cancel one permit and obtain another.  As I already had a contract and permit for another school.  Yes they talked to the school about letting me teach for them for a short term.

Even when all was said and done it was still a cluster f*/k.  Now keep in mind I was teaching late afternoons and evenings to adults at 2 different local govt. offices not a school.

But the contract they gave me was a standard teacher contract.  It had all the standard teacher stuff like arriving at 7:30, Greeting students, staying until 3:45, reside on the school grounds in the school provided house and if one was not available I would be given additional compensation for rent, etc... etc...

The amount of paperwork for such a short term assignment was ludicrous and unnecessary but I complied anyway, the pay was good and it was an nice 3 months.

They wound up with 6 passport photos, 4 complete copies of every page in my passport, 4 copies of the contract, several copies of house book, copies of bank statements, marriage license and more.  And yes of course I had to sign every copy of everything.  I never submitted so much paperwork before, and don’t know what it was all for, didn’t need it all to obtain the visa or work permit.  Who knows what they do with it or where it winds up.
