  1. What about the bigger firms where you can rent in one city and drop off in another.

Does the passport get sent on ahead? :)

If you're on about cars (even though this thread is about bikes) then the big guys like Avis, Hertz and Budget don't keep your passport just a copy and a swipe of your credit card like in the West.

  2. When i used to come here on holiday I would always leave my passport for a motorbike, but then i was accused of damaging, a big long scratch at the side for which they wanted 2,000 baht. I know for sure that the scratch was their before because it was so deep, but was naive enough to think that they knew this, so they had my passport, pay up or no passport.

My only advice on the passport thing is to bring a camera take pictures or make a short movie noting the damage with the person that is renting you the bike in full view. They might look at you thinking you are mad or might take slight offense but you just explain that they have your passport for insurance and you have a movie for insurance. If you do break something go and get it fixed before you take it back or at least buy the parts from the shop and offer them to them.

  3. Wimbledon in peace, and I can't wait for Monday night, roll on the game

Yes. We are looking forward to entertaining the real Wimbledon. Apparently 2.5k away supporters. We have opened the bottom tier of the away end (which is a rare event), should be a cracking game.

Happy days, taht should get your attendance up to 6k at least... :)

blah blah blah, I bet those 6k can spell 'that'

  4. Yes more info please, I'm now lost as to where it is 4th floor, 3rd floor, night bazaar, near Martini Bar. Where and at what time is it opening 15th October and............

  5. This nothing I went to Carrefour in Hang dong for a French stick looked in the rack and there were none there, all that was there was the wrappers with the price. To my right I could see a whole basket load and asked the girl if I could have one of them and she just replied NO! So I thought stuff you and when her back was turned got one out of the basket put it in the wrapper and paid for it. Got home and it was one of the plastic display French sticks, not very edible.

    STUPID FARANG!!!

  6. Jesus some of the prices seem extortionate!! Me and the wife have a 3-bed house, shared with a cat and a dog. Both work from home computers on about 14-16 hours a day X2. Air-con in the bedroom, TV on when the PC's are not. and are averages about 500-600 per month double that for your Condo landlords jacking up the price and we are still no where near yours. We lived in a Condo type flat in Koh Samui and our bills were always coming in expensive like yours, then we found out the landlord was sharing our electric metre but we were footing the bill (cheeky git), so after a small row with the Russian guy we got two months free rent which amounted to 24,000 baht and were over the moon. We moved to Chiang Mai as soon as the free rent was up though!

Something is defo wrong with how they calculate it or maybe it is perfectly correct and just charging way over the odds!!

  7. I like heinz baked beans can you stock them too, just for me, also I like dry roasted peanuts can you stock them especially for me. He stocks what he considers to be the most saught after products for his establishment not what one man wants, if he stocked what every single person desired there would be complaints of warm liquor and cold food and nowhere to sit, you can't win with some people on here.

  8. I don't consider visa runners and holidaymakers as ex-pats, therefore are irrelevant to any survey regarding the nationality of Farangs living in Thailand.

As for the ex-pats, those with non-immigrant visas, students and residing in Thailand legally, taking an educated guess, I would say the majority are British.

Agreed holidaymakers are not ex-pats as they are..... holidaymakers :) !! But why are people who do visa runs not ex-pats. I know a great many people who have resided in Thailand for a long time and do visa runs every 12-15 months and border bounces every three months. Are these people not ex-pats?

  9. Sorry and all you'll get from Mai Sai, when this extension will run out (because you say you only have a single entry visa) in basically 15/14 days visa on arrival. If you want to stay longer in Thailand, you are best off travelling to Laos and getting another touris visa from the Thai consulate in Vientianne.

  10. Hey its simple just go to the immigration close to the airport. As soon as you walk in the door there are form on you left to fill out for tourist visa extension I thing they are the T7 (marked like this in top righ corner of form) forms. Fill this in and then go back to the Thai gut near a ticket machine close to the door tell him "tourist visa extension" he'll produce a ticket for from the machine. take a seat wait for your number to be called and go to the appropriate window and hand him #1. your passport. #2. a photocopy of you visa and last stamp into the country and also your picture page. #3. the form you filled out on entering the immigration office. #4. a passport sized photo of your head and shoulders. #5. 1,900 baht and a pleasant smile. After this he will tell you "take seat" and then wait for your name to be called out over the tannoy or a loud mouth worker. Take care to listen for what might be your name as their pronunciation is not the best when it comes to farangs names.

  11. My TOT has been diabolical for two months now and at the weekend it went off completely, even though Google would open up, sod all else would. Monday nothing at all, not even Google, in fact I think it struggled to show me the page saying that there is a connection error, phone call after phone call, visit to office at Airport Plaza, "will fix problem" was the answer more phone calls Tuesday, but this time no reply to my 101 calls and then I get up this morning all ready for a trip into town to get some work done and bang it is working probably only about as good as it has been a month ago but I can move.

Another poster said that they wwanted to get a group together to approach TOT as whole a maybe they would listen, would they? but if this is to go ahead petition wise or a mass walk-in and sit down and one of their branches I'm game.

  12. Magnumforce doesn't know the difference between Ireland and Northern Ireland, ha ha. The guy has lived in England yes, but he is a fully fledged Thai national.

Um, As per my earlier post - is this place connected with the "Tiger Tiger "chain in UK, or have they just borrowed the name (and logo :D )?

Check it out and come to you conclusions! :)

  13. These places have no character or charm about them. They seem to be typical examples of Farangs trying to do business on low budgets in order to sustain income to survive here in Thailand.

No difference to when poor Thai people sell noodles within their home to supplement their income.

You might want to take a look before you talk about "Farangs trying to do business" as the chap is actually a Thai national with his young family and just so happens can cook good food too.

    Enough said!

I'm getting confused here . Are you still talking about Tiger Tiger? Magnumforce (he started this topic) said "the manager/owner is English." ?

Magnumforce doesn't know the difference between Ireland and Northern Ireland, ha ha. The guy has lived in England yes, but he is a fully fledged Thai national.
