Laugh! Up here in the far North the majority of the 'festival' takes place on the roads. Pick-ups all loaded up with people and water barrels go out in search of .....

    fun! fun! fun!

nothing beats riding a bicycle in 35-degree weather, and having a pickup zoom

by doing 80 kmh, when idiots dump buckets of ice-cold water as they speed

    by from behind.

..... I came on here and started commenting back at the 30-something page ...

    why are you doing this?

this is a forum for grumpy old expats with nothing better to do all day

than argue on the internets.  there is no way their comments here could

have affected the fundraisers if as claimed it was targeted at close friends

and family rather than the general public.

and these grumpy old expats have a rather short attention span.  this

thread would have died a natural death long, long ago out of boredom

seeing as there is no new information to argue about.

you have single-handedly kept this alive for fifty pages.  if you stop,

everyone will lose interest and go on to the next interesting story,

like the big-leg man's honeymoon in gambia.

So as you just said not all have the word copy on them. Both of these bills are fake monies or "ghost monies?"

....... rained in Cambodia during that time. Damn wow I am so AMAZED at her EXTERME Photoshop skills. Smh.

I will also say this...do people really think that they took wet and dirty bills in to exchange? I mean common sense tells me that any person who found money and thought it was real would dry them and clean them off regardless if they were going to turn them in or not!

    ....

yep, both were picked up off the street in cambodia.  very

obvious fake bills.  absolutely no chance could be misteaken

for the real thing, especially not by americans.

really cheap paper.  feels like recycled plywood, or the rough

paper towels supplied in the deutsche reichsbahn waggons

    in the old DDR.

once they get damp, they wrinkle.  any stains will be permanent.

they can not be washed or cleaned.  new ghost money is obviously

fake.  soiled money will not be accepted at any exchange.

anyhoo, no chance of getting that cambodian red clay washed out

    of paper towel bills.

................and the mud covers up the "copy" written on the front and the big "Bank of the dead" written on the back on ALL 10-50 of the notes .

(10-50 notes depends on whether the bills were 100s or 5 $ bills)

The fake money would have disintegrated, had it got wet , run over, blown around .

not entirely correct.  i've got some cambodian ghost money right here

next to me that i picked up while traveling.  have posted photos previously.

printed on cheap recycled paper, but won't disintgrate when wet.  will

wrinkle, mud stains will be permanent.

not all have "copy" or alterations to the printing.  some are simply

    exact copies on plain paper.

More like , they found the money for sale in a market , where its available to buy , bought it and tried to exchange it for real currency .

You cannot "find" a 1000$ , you can only steal $1000 . If you see something laying in the street , you cannot just pick it up and claim it as yours .

A "wet muddy road" in the dry season , when it hasnt rained for months!!!!!!!

it's a good story.  in the dry season it gets dusty.  shopowners

will spray the street in front of their shops to keep the dust

down.  mud-covered spirit money in the gutter?  plausible.

taking some as a souvenir?  sure.

running short of cash on vacation?  absolutely.

"hey, maybe we could exchange......?"  possible.

story falls apart when they claim to get caught.  no bank or exchange

office will accept soiled currency.  they won't inspect it, won't

run it through the currency scanner.  they simply won't touch it.

can't imagine a local police office missing the opportunity to

get in the papers.......unless they get an offer too good to refuse.

but those offers need to be immediate; they won't wait a month

for you to run a gofundme campaign and hold a bake sale.

  6. just to clarify.....this would be an older second/third-hand

pickup for around town and fetching vittles.  $3K max if

what i see in the classifieds is correct.

if she leaves me and takes the truck, and that's all i lose,

i'll write it off and consider myself lucky.

was thinking any day without dealing with thai behoerde

is a good day, and it would be simpler to keep it all thai.

and what about accidents?  "they" say the foreigner is

always at fault, even when not, and is treated like winning

the lottery.  any advantage in that situation to having no

    foreigner documentation?

  7. question about buying/registering/insuring a car/motorcycle.

    i have a non-o (ret), and thai car+moto licenses.

gf does not have a license.  i really don't want her to drive.

i want to buy a car and/or bike and

want to minimize the hassle.  will buy used, no financing.

can gf register the car/bike without a license?

i've read that the vehicle is insured, not the driver, so that

anyone using the vehicle is covered.

can the owner without a license buy the insurance?

can i buy the insurance for a vehicle in her name?

if (when!) i'm driving/riding and stopped,  registration and

insurance in her name, what do i need to show i have

    "permission" to use the vehicle?

For sure you can ride in the middle of the left lane, however you are at risk of being hit by oncoming traffic who are overtaking a slower car and don't care that you're in the way because you're only on a motorcycle.

yes, and you can ride in the breakdown lane, yet are still at risk

of being hit by idiots passing on the left, driving in the breakdown

    lane.

strange thing about how the rider was sitting/angled on his bike.

appears he was on the phone....maybe holding the phone with his

shoulder as he's turning?  looks like the phone pops loose and

bounces in front of the bike before hitting the ground.

  9. **UPDATE**

applied for refund online saturday, today (thursday)

got an SMS to check status.  the main page will lead

    you to   http://www.rd.go.th/publish/27942.0.html

where you can access your file.

file had a message that i needed to upload some documents:

withholding statements, passport, and work permit.  could mail

in, fax in or upload online.  you must turn off your popup blocker

for the upload files popup window.

uploaded all the files (copy of visa instead of work permit) and

checked status again.  new message says files received, must

be checked.  gave a telephone number to call if any questions.

.....Making Thai people pick up litter or do pressups at the side of the road causes much more loss of face and they are less likely to do the same thing again than if you just take 200 baht off them.....

    excellent idea.

call the parents.  hold the kids until they arrive.  make the parents

pick up garbage on the roadside while the neighbors drive by.

and give the kids some ice cream and soda to enjoy while they

watch their parents paying for their sins.

I have often worked in Thai hospitals for free. just a bit of fetch and carrying . Do you honestly think the police are going to prosecute a person doing work out of the kindness of there heart and for charity. Don’t listen to Bar room lawyers ..

it's not that someone is discreetly helping out, rather

his wife posted this on her facebook page for all to see.

wouldn't expect a visit from the work permit police

immediately, perhaps after he has a run in with one

of the neighbors, or maybe the IO has a really bad day

and recognizes the man who shamed thailand on his

    next extension date.

.. it's possible that he wasn't really due to hand the car back in. That was merely his excuse. I'd suggest that he wanted to hand over his fare to a compatriot from Pattaya so that he could get back to his home patch and find some more fares.

looks more like the handover scam.......driver agrees to 1300 to go

to pattaya, but has to change cars/drivers.  but when they get to

pattaya, the new driver demands 2000.  he'll even have a laminated

card with prices to show them.
