  1. i recall a reference to promptpay somewhere, but not

exactly where.  sorry, can't say where....could have been

on main site, on the form, or a popup.  may have needed

a thai id number for that......but it's hazy now.

i found this on the downloaded english instructions

for the PDN 90, and on page 1 of the english form, but

    no entry fields:

    "Request for Tax Refund
If you wish to receive your tax refund, you shall sign in the space provided. The Revenue Department will refund the tax via prompt-pay system. For your convenience, you can use your National ID number to subscribe to the system with any banks providing such service in Thailand.
    "

this is at left bottom of the form, so looks like the

electronic refund is a separate application on the

    website:

"The Revenue Department provides electronic services
related to ภ.ง.ด.90 on the website www.rd.go.th as follows:
    1. ภ.ง.ด.90 submission, tax payment or refund
    request through the E-Filing system
    2. Personal income tax calculation program
    "

the word "prompt" does not appear on the form 90

    that i downloaded.

maybe check the links on this e-filing page:

Quote: Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and found a badly damaged bicycle lying on the side of the highway

My monitor shows a blue bicycle in very good condition..no buckled wheels or frame...hmm.

yes, on second thought, the website that

published the story may have simply used

a stock "bicycle in road" photo.

  3. from the photo, the bicycle is undamaged.

the seat is at an awkward angle, but i've seen folks

around town with components improperly adjusted.

as you can see, the basket on the front is not

    bent in any way.

don't think the bike was hit by the bus.  the old guy

may have had a heart attack and fallen off.

bus driver did not see body in the road, as he was

too busy texting or watching soaps on

    the dashboard video monitor.

  4. one of the ladies out on bail has posted on reddit:

Hello :-) I am one of the women spoken of in this article. The reason we were asking people to not contact the US embassy is because they have already been contacted so many times by our concerned friends and family. The embassy told us to ask our friends and family to stop contacting them because they were getting so overwhelmed with calls and it was taking away from the time and effort they could put into more important matters pertaining to our case.

i don't get it.  they said the bills were covered with

mud, so they did not see the "copy" printed on them.

on all of them.  they were trying to change the bills

at a money changer.  who changes muddy bills?

can't imagine any place would even bother to

check heavily soiled bills for authenticity.  they'd

    just refuse them outright.

  5. ***UPDATE***

after a couple weeks, the tax lady from lad phrao finally called us.

she consulted with her lawyer who said i did not have to pay income

tax on savings brought into thailand.  good news.

more good news........okay to file for refund AND can file online.

    http://www.rd.go.th/publish/300.0.html

went to the revenue department page, registered online using my new TIN.

filled out the form 90 with help from a native speaker.    application was

accepted, and printed out a copy.  should receive a check at my home address.

can check status online in 3 days.

there is a link to english hidden at the bottom of the page.  this gets you to

downloadable forms and instructions in english:

    http://www.rd.go.th/publish/56815.0.html

there was an option on the website for uploading a form OR using the

online thai system.  we opted to fill out the thai form online after filling

out and referencing the english form.

interest and dividends go in no. 3, section 40(4). there are two lines

where you choose type of income for 40(4).  the first one let us enter

dividends/interest for each payer along with the tax paid and payer tax id.

there is a "+" icon at the bottom to add more payers.  the second 40(4)

option was for dividend payments directly from a thai corporation.

tried that one first, could not get it to work.  after entering all interest

and dividends data, hit next and the system did all the calculations.

you must enter the taxpayer id of the payer.  online system lets you add

entries for each payer. not sure you would handle that with the paper or

uploadable versions, as there is only one payer id space for all the possible

sources of income within no. 3.

only hiccup was the final check.  form was not accepted unless filled out

lines for "company" and "website."  those could not be left blank.

    i used " เกษียณ " and "www.nowebsite.com"

  6. i have my fidelity account set up to ACH funds

by domestic transfer to bangkok bank new york

branch, online with no human interaction.

(i believe for a swift, they require call to get a

security code, but i may be mistaken.)

also have capital one checking, but have not

tried to send to thai yet.

despite having checking accounts and credit

cards with various us banks, i wanted one that

would allow local thai address.  want to be prepared

for the possibility that my us mailing address is

    no longer accepted.

  7. navy federal credit union

is possible to open checking and savings accounts, apply for credit cards online

using thailand address, with cards and documents mailed to thailand.

most credit cards no annual fee, no baltran fee, no fortran fee.

checking and savings no minimum balance.

must purchase one $5 share to become a member.

i used us drivers license and voter registration card to satisfy their ID requirements.

already received atm/debit card in the mail, credit card on the way.

some relationship to military required (veteran, dod worker or retiree, family member,

grandchild of someone eligible, enjoyed watching mchale's navy as a kid, etc)

.... part of the Thai process is to sit through a video explaining road rules etc and it showed about half a dozen absolutely massive accidents caught mostly from CCTV.

i sat through that also.  with maybe 50-60 thais in the room, none of whom paid any attention to the videos.  talking on cellphone, playing video games, a few sleeping.  good training i suppose, as that is exactly what they will be doing behind the wheel.

  9. why not set up a fixed-account solely to be

    used for your seasonings?

you'll get a separate passbook with few entries

    to confuse the official.

no chance of accidentally going under the

required amount by a few baht.

cannot use update machines, must go inside,

not aware of any limit on frequency of update.

no reason you couldn't get an update daily if

you wanted......you get the date and the balance,

regardless of any changes....which would be

    limited to interest and tax.

move money in (online or in person) get an

update, then update at end of each month,

final update and statement on extension day.

that afternoon you can take the cash out.
