I read that too. That is why I asked Ubon Joe to confirm what I asked him before.

I think I asked you before. Was not sure.
Thank you very much.

No
It will have no effect. It is only for new OA visa application at a embassy or consulate.

Ubon Joe,
Will this apply to extensions in Thailand too?
-
Does it only apply to new applicants for the O-A retirement who are applying from there own countries or those who are now on O-A extensions in Thailand too?

Like most here I am s little confused.
I have been here for nine years.
I am on the O-A extension. The said extension due again next August 27.
Is the insurance required for the extension?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think in the Philippines if you marry a Pinoy you can join Phil Health. Don’t know if it is any good.
Sorry for sidetracking. But it might of interest if someone wants to move.

there seems to be a huge number problem here. there are about 68m people living in Thailand. I do not think 38m are long term visa holders.
another site says 2.5 m but does not mention long term vs short term. If 2.5m is divided by outstanding medical bills of 300m it comes out to about 120b. per expat.
how about charging 3,000 to renew the visa.
I think a complete study is needed...maybe again. I see most expats are from Asia....poor labor type people.
Thailand should compute the contribution long-term expats make to the economy. It certainly more than 120b. I send 80,000b/month.
If you look at it as a business, then 300m is a small price to pay for 'cost of business'. Sure, Thailand will make a lot more money if expats forced to buy insurance but they will also lose a lot from people leaving...and they will leaving and fewer people coming.
can you imagine if all of a sudden 10,000 (just a guess) condos go on sale in Bangkok, etc.
this argument is also valid with tourist. what is the cost of business. maybe tourist should pay 500b more per visa. then simply pay off medical bills that go unpaid
The solution seems easy to me but research is needed.
ebeanooi, you made one of the most sensible suggestions I have read
Sadly Thai would not think of it.
charge 3000baht or whatever for a extension is a great idea.

These are some of the questions that cannot be answered.
What is going to happen will happen whatever the wrong figures and maths.

This looks like new O-A applicants and current ones doing extensions?

Okay, we have insurance.
Malaysia and Indonesia have that.
I can accept that.
I just wish they would they would get there act together on immigration issues and all do the same thing.

Most of us are seniors who have retired here.
Getting insurance cover for pre-existing medical conditions is next to impossible.
Has anyone got a sensible answer please?

A person comes to Thailand.
Many marry and rear children that are not there own.
Build or buy house and car.
They have brought money from there own country to do this.
Every year they bring money into Thailand from the same country to live on.
None of this money has cost the Thai taxpayer anything.
This is a huge amount of money I would think.
Maybe the Farang who has brought all this free money into Thailand should be entitled to something too.
Okay I know it is our choice to come.

I suppose it is really up to the individual.
But it is interesting know how different people go about renewing visa’s etc.
And there are some very helpful people willing to share there knowledge.
-
Is it okay if I chip in here and ask about the medical in Ph?

It is true about the Philippines. The Philippines are really encouraging people to retire there.
Google retiring in the Philippines.
It is all there..

Can anyone recommend an agent in Surin or Buriram?
-
It says up to 40,000. Up 400,000.
Can it be less?

After being a member of this forum for many years, I am still wondering why so many members need to disrupt every thread with their endless nosepicking.
The political correct wording of a visa extension is not going to change anything on what this poster is asking.
Visa renewal; Extension of permission to stay; or whatever, I have no problem to understand what this person is talking about.
This person is asking for information about the use if an agent to do his Visa extension.
Not why he wants to chose for an agent.
Read the OP before jumping in.
If you have too much time on your hands, and the only useful meaning of your life is to jump in on every thread with such remarks, I would suggest that you find the nearest high building and jump off that building (taking care not to cause to much trouble for other people).I agree with you.

Are you a young person?
Getting older changes your perspective, and hopefully you are financially sound when you are older. That means your time becomes more valuable to you than money. One is running out, the other you cannot take with you. Another issue is it becomes a bit more arduous to do the task yourself as your body begins to let you down. A long drive, sitting waiting wanting the facilities, confusion.
Saying they are 'lazy' is oversimplifying.
Exactly. Thank you Jacko. I concur.

And we get post after post of how IOs are asking for more irrelevant documents to push people to agents. I don't know what to believe in this forum. But I salute those guys for their noble sacrifice of donating their money to children's hospitals instead of paying to an agent to ease their life's chores
If I use an agent it Will be because my health tells me too. I am not lazy.
Good for you if you are still strong and healthy. And I hope you do.
If it does not and you and others who are smug.
Please remember what you have said if it happens as there is every possibility that it will as you get older. It happened to me.

Whatever you say?
Alright for you.
My health is not the best and the day might come that I might have to use an agent because of health reasons.
And there will be others to in the same situation.

The OP asked politely how to do something.
I think it would to polite to give him an answer if anyone can advise.
It is entirely up to him how he spends his money.

There is a Bangkok Bank at Kap. Cheong for those that have accounts with the Bangkok Bank.
They know what to do and are very good.
I use them when I do my extension.
