  1. Thanks for your advice.  I looked up the prices on DHL and Thai Post and 915 is correct for DHL. Thai Post is not accepting parcels for Japan at the moment.  The envelope was mailed successfully two days ago????

  2. I'm not sure that this is the correct forum for this question but does anyone have recent experience sending mail to Japan?  I asked my hotel to mail a 10 X 13 inch envelope containing three sheets of labels weighing about four ounces to Japan.  They said that Thai Post won't accept mail to Japan and that the only option was DHL which will charge 915 Baht.  I haven't talked to DHL personally but that seems terribly expensive.  Can anyone recommend a cheaper method?  The labels could certainly be put into an envelope half that size.

  3. could you kindly elaborate on using an insurer as a self-insure plan administrator.  I'm 77 and would be interested in doing that once I learn the details.  Certainly there would be deposits and fees involved.  I am presently self-insured in Thailand.

  4. This is a helpful topic.  I'm legally divorced from my American wife and have a will in the US providing for my daughter and grandchildren living there.  I live alone in Thailand but until now have not thought that a Thai will is necessary.  I have no outstanding financial obligations here but do have two bank accounts, both declared to the US Dept. of the Treasury and to the IRs each year.  All income is earned in the US- dividends, interest and capital gains.

  5. A panel interview on TV of four doctors from UCSF revealed  that the air on airplanes is not efficiently filtered.  Fresh air comes from the top down and bodily emanations rise.  The result is that the air is pushed sideways.  Three doctors said that they would not get on a plane at this time.  The airplane sanitization expert said he was waiting for airplanes to provide filtered air from the bottom of the cabin and draw the dirty air off from the top.

  6. I am getting a free upgrade to a two-bedroom apartment.  The problem with the new rooms is that there is very little storage space and very few electric plugs.  I imagine that the second bedroom will be stuffed with boxes and suitcases full of my things.  The rooms are beautiful, but there's just no place to store my stuff except in the second bedroom.

  7. Right.  My hotel is converting only certain rooms to fit ASQ requirements.  My understanding until Friday night was that we regular guests could remain and I was shocked to find out then that I must move out.  I will be transferred to another branch to a room that is not as comfortable.  My impression is that some hotels are allowing regular guests to stay.

  8. I have no intention of fighting them.  I am just disappointed that they will be transferring me to a room at a different hotel that will not be as comfortable.  The purpose of my question was to discover if this is standard procedure at all of the i9quarantine hotels.  My understanding is that centralized air conditioning is a problem for many of the hotels.  It could spread the virus throughout all of the hotels that have it.

  9. The news about vaccines and treatments is not terribly positive.  One vaccine being trialed now causes bad side effects in people who get large doses of it and small doses are not sufficiently effective.  In a video of four experts from UCSF Medical school, it was noted that filtration systems on airplanes are not very effective because the filtered air comes from above and the emanations from people's bodies rise so any infected air is pushed sideways.  I can link the video in anybody is interested.

  10. Democracy is quite durable and the US will likely find many allies in its fight against the CCP.  So far as not actively resisting the CCP, are you aware of the numerous demonstrations in China over the years and the actions of the citizens of Hong Kong?

The USA has indeed done horrendous things. Whether or not they were justified depends on your interpretation of history.

  11. I believe that, if you ask around at CW, you will find an IO willing to grant you a 90-day Non-O Visa for the purpose of getting a one-year extension based on marriage.  You can probably find out what financial consideration will be required, if any.  Be aware that the paperwork for an extension of stay based on marriage is considerable.  Have your money. In the bank or a record of several months of 40,000 transfers to a Thai bank clearly marked FTT.  The money can't come from an in-country source.
