  1. Philippines is famous for being "unfriendly" for years now. Some even reported problems when applied for a single entry. Not the place to go.

    Wrong! The Philippines is easy.

    Wrong Tropo.

We talking about getting a new visa for stay in Thailand from the Thai embassy in Philippines (not for stay in PH. - we all know they are very friendly).

Use the search engine and you find houndreds of posts saying that Thai embassy in Manilla rejects visa application en mass.

    A misunderstanding?

(dont worry mate, you get your visa next week without any "extra's")

  2. PeaceBlondie: 50 processes only? - that not much. Vista in idle use 70 processes and up.

Dangerous to tweak (clean up). Dont do it if you dont know what you're doing. Disable them 1 by 1 and write down what process you stop. If problems later you enable that process again.

Faster CPU, Dual or Quad core go cheap these days 4-6K (check what CPU your mainboard support).

If you're a heavy multitasker (get CPU with 3-12MB cashe), this might be what the doctor ordered. :)

  3. My 42' Plasma lost picture after 1,5 year only.

    Cost 4.500 to repair.

    "Expected life"? Not much.

I checked a tv brands thai web site, only 50% of new model are full HD.

"it seems the only benefit of going high end would be theoretical potential future uses, rather than my current intended use."

I agree totally. The tv will die long before LOS get tv signals that can feed a HD tv. That goes for True vision (ubc) as well.

After alot of reading on many forums, I downgraded myself from a full HD to a less spec tv.

  4. Bosse137: If yor main use is UBC digital, a low spec tv seems the way to go. Keep the Resolution not higher than 1366x768p (not full HD), and contrast not more than 20:000. Also avoid 600Hz.

This is my conclusion after searched many forums.

However is you have BlueRay, or download HD movies, you need higher spec: 1920x1080p resolution (Full HD). But then again the picture watching ubc will be bad.

Many of the cheapest 42'-50' I see for sale now (THB 30-40K) are top spesifications tv and not a good combination with Ubc (True vision). Lg have a promotion 50' + free home theater for 39.999 but contrast is 2.000.000 = not for use with Ubc.

See these topics from "audio/Visual,HiFi and Home Theatre" sub forum for more opinions:

  5. Sorry, I forgot to add: analog signal being poorer than digital, I would ask Ubc if they have a set top box with s-video output.

Then look for your 32 Lcd with low spesifications as mentioned in my previous post.

Check your neighbours TV spesifications and you might find out that they choosed top specs. In here lay the problem.

  6. from windows help and support :

When your computer does not have enough memory for all the actions it is trying to perform, Windows and your programs can stop working. To help prevent information loss, Windows will notify you when your computer is low on memory. You can also learn to recognize the signs of low memory and take steps to prevent the problem.

What are the signs of low memory?

Signs of low memory include poor performance, low memory or out of memory notifications, and display problems. For example, if you try to open a menu in a program when your computer is low on memory, the program might respond slowly or appear to stop responding. If the menu appears, it might not respond when you try to click an item or it might not display all items. If you click a menu item, the menu might also disappear and leave a blank area on the screen instead of displaying the contents of the document or file in which you're working.

Why do low memory problems occur?

Your computer has two types of memory, random access memory (RAM) and virtual memory. All programs use RAM, but when there is not enough RAM for the program you're trying to run, Windows temporarily moves information that would normally be stored in RAM to a file on your hard disk called a paging file. The amount of information that is temporarily stored in a paging file is also referred to as virtual memory. Using virtual memory—in other words, moving information to and from the paging file—frees up enough RAM for programs to run correctly.

Low memory problems occur when your computer runs out of RAM and becomes low on virtual memory. This can happen when you run more programs than the RAM installed on the computer is designed to support. Low memory problems can also occur when a program does not free up memory that it no longer needs. This problem is called memory overuse or a memory leak.

How to prevent low memory problems

Running fewer programs at one time can prevent low memory problems and information loss. It's a good idea to observe which programs show signs of low memory conditions and try not to run them at the same time.

However, it’s not always convenient or practical to run a limited number of programs. Signs of low memory can indicate that the computer needs more RAM to support the programs you use. Here are the recommended ways to solve or prevent low memory problems:

Increase the paging file (virtual memory) size

Windows automatically attempts to increase the paging file size the first time your computer becomes low on memory, but you can also manually increase it up to a maximum size that is determined by the amount of RAM installed. Although increasing the paging file size can help prevent low memory problems, it can also make your programs run more slowly. Because your computer reads information from RAM much faster than from a hard disk (where the paging file is), making too much virtual memory available to programs will slow them down.

For more information, see Change the size of virtual memory.

    Install more RAM

If you see signs of low memory or if Windows warns you about a low memory problem, check the information that came with your computer or contact the computer manufacturer to determine which type of RAM is compatible with your computer, and then install more RAM. To install RAM, check the information provided by the manufacturer.

For more information, see Find out how much RAM your computer has.

Determine if a program overuses memory

If the computer becomes low on memory whenever you run certain programs, one or more of those programs might have a memory leak. To stop a memory leak, you need to close the program. To repair a memory leak, you need to check for updates for the program or contact the publisher of the software.

To determine which program is using the most memory, follow these steps:

    Click to open Task Manager.

    Click the Processes tab.

To sort programs by memory usage, click Memory (Private Working Set).

You can also check for program errors and troubleshooting information using Event Viewer:

Click to open Event Viewer.‌ If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

In the left pane, click Applications and Services Logs to view error events. To see a description of the problem, double-click the event. To see if troubleshooting information is available, look for a link to online Help.

    What is virtual memory?

If your computer lacks the random access memory (RAM) needed to run a program or operation, Windows uses virtual memory to compensate.

Virtual memory combines your computer’s RAM with temporary space on your hard disk. When RAM runs low, virtual memory moves data from RAM to a space called a paging file. Moving data to and from the paging file frees up RAM to complete its work.

The more RAM your computer has, the faster your programs will generally run. If a lack of RAM is slowing your computer, you might be tempted to increase virtual memory to compensate. However, your computer can read data from RAM much more quickly than from a hard disk, so adding RAM is a better solution.

    Virtual memory and error messages

If you receive error messages that warn of low virtual memory, you need to either add more RAM or increase the size of your paging file so that you can run the programs on your computer. Windows usually manages the size automatically, but you can manually change the size of virtual memory if the default size is not enough for your needs. For more information, see Change the size of virtual memory.

Tips : install minimum 2GB Ram

  7. I using a 42' Plasma tv with digital UBC connected via s-video cable. No problem with picture quality. But, this is a low spec tv. Resolution 1024x768p - brightness 1200cd/m2 - Contrast 10:000

I plan to buy a 50' full HD and asked the same questions in another thread. Seems that all the good spec tv have problem with Ubc signals. Other members have reported serious problem with picture quality and TV with high contrast ratio. Using Dreambox etc will not improve pic quality. Ubc is the problem.

Be aware of many tv now come with contrast up to 2.000.000 - not usable with ubc according to many reports.

So in my case I will look for a low spec HD ready only 50' (max resolution 1366x768 - max brightness 1500cd/m2 and max contrast 20:000 or less)

Unless the shop have Ubc, ask the shop if you can test the TV at home with ubc first. Numchai in Pattaya offer this "same day" extra service :)

  8. OP did the right thing, thanks to him we now know about this "issue" about max 5 cupons.

I guess most of us will send missus to take care of this, as all farangs not need a 10-20-50% discount. We are all millionares, aren't we ? :D

20-50% discount on a 50K tv shure is interesting, even for all us millionares (me not included) :)

  9. @thaiphoon: YOU are wrong!

READ the OP post 1 again.

This is 2nd time in this thread you try correct me - both time you wrong.

IF you have a issue with me = PM me!

    From OP post number 1:

"What are the options for a single British 30 year old with circa 100k baht per month income generated (and taxed) overseas to stay in Thailand long term, other than on a tourist visa?

Seems like the 4 hours a week ED visa is about the only option for someone in this category? Marry a local bar girl? Become a teacher? Surely there is some middle ground?"

----edited the marriage option a tad----- Monty

    @thaiphoon: w h e r e did OP talk about Non B ???????

I responded to OP - no others.

    Get your facts right!

  10. Looking back on OP posts lately, seems that some kind of harassment from another member, might be his reason to quit.

OP have contributed with many good posts and topics, so its sad that someone got under his skin deep enough for him to leave.

All forums have their keyboard warriors in one shape or another. Sad these people dont t h i n k, before they attack other members.

Argue the case - avoid personal attacks.

  11. Coming from one of the coldest country in the world.

Moved here 10 years ago and aircon was on 24/7 and set to 22 degrees.

10 years later and only use aircon when go to sleep, now set at 27 degrees (missus still complain). :)

Its possible to acclimatise but it takes time.

Humidity is the killer in my case, some days are still a living hel_l.

  12. What about the 2 farangs on Pattaya beach road, who collect plastic bottles daily ?

They walk up and down all day, with their huge plastic bags.

Wonder how their visa status are.

Also a few mega drunk farangs seen sleeping on the beach night after night, and farang beggars.

How did they put themselves in this situation?

    A sad sight indeed.
