  1. Upgraded from 2GB to 4GB memory.

Running Vista 32 bit, service pack 1 last updated 29 july.

Windows Task manager say Total 2813 physical memory (MB).

    From BIOS:

    Installed memory (RAM) 4.00GB

    Total phys memory 2.75GB

    Avaiable phys mem. 1.08GB

    Total Virtual mem. 5.71GB

    Avaiable Virt.mem. 3.85GB

    Page file space 3.04GB

How to adjust this so 3.2 - 3.3GB visable in (Vista) Task manager?

Also using Kingston data traveller 16GB for "ReadyBoost".

Is maximum only 4GB for boosting?

    Any way around this?

  2. When o n l y Walking Street is busy - how can people claim Pattaya is doing well?

Last time I checked, Pattaya is alot more than only WS. And they are clearly "hurting".

People who post "Pattaya is doing well" are either blind, or Not Here In Pattaya!

Or - someone need a pair of glasses, reading and seeing glasses that is.

    (Sigh)

  3. This topic has been repeated houndreds of times both here and in the "motor" forum.

All members have different experience, some get new DL within 30 minutes, others gets alot of hassle from the staff.

I renewed my 5 DL not long ago and got a 1 yr (due to TR visa only), but had to take the color test, braking test etc!

One office told me "must renew before expire date".

Other office told me "must wait to DL has expired".

The simple answer is that the staff dont know the rules, and afraid to ask their boss when in doubt.

Meet them on a "good day" and you're in/out in 1 hour.

Next day might be very different (see earlier topics about DL).

  4. Someone forget: Police sweep beach road clean every night and start early now ...

All girls go walking street = the punters follow them. Thats why WS seems crowded.

Ask any hotel and restaurant owner, ask any other business owner ......

Seen in the 10+ years perspective I lived here, this is record LOW season.

I still love this city, but it is realy "dead".

Guess "who" comes with his 50 satang now ....... Pattaya "Lovers" come on :-)

  5. 3 tourist visa already (back to back, or not)= Penang not give you more (unless you're very lucky).

This has been well know last 2 years now after they got a new boss there in Penang.

(use the search function here and read thousands of posts about just that).

To the member who called this "bogus" = read earlier tread about this topic and you can see scanned copy

of the "famous red stamp" in peoples passport: do not appy for a new visa again etc etc.....

Have one myself, so if you in my area, happy to show you.

Why go Penang or KL (you get single entry only, OR get denied)

when Vientiane Laos, have been the best choise for a long time now?

(and - they give double entry).

I have 5 full passport now with back to back TR visas for Thailand.

Its not difficult or impossible. Just keep reading on Thai visas here.

  6. A web page I am related too, lately get alot of fake members, seems like kids using the same internet cafe.

    My question is:

    - What IP program find the real IP adress of the sender?

    - What program can then block that real IP from making new fake memberships daily?

Tried some programs already, get different IP each time, and none of these can block the IP.

  7. On Pattaya Tai, going up from Third road to Sukhumvit.

    7-Eleven on your left hand.

Just across the road is a big shop that have alot of helmets and visor in all sizes and colors.

  8. Where is the problem with OP post ?

1: Heading ="tired to read all the bulls... on this board".

    - not very nice to say to all those members who have taken time to write about their problem.

2: Continuing "after reading many that it was not possible to get a thai DL with a tourist visa"

    - wrong, many have reported they got DL on tourist visa, many more than those few who say they didn't get it.

3: Continuing claim many said "need a certificate of residence"

    - again the OP is wrong, many people have reported than can use / that they did use letter from Embassy.

But why OP recommend use embassy letter, when immigration issue this for a fraction of what some/many embassy want ?

    this is the problem.

  9. you come on so arrogant ...

"boring read all the bulls..." = claiming those who reported problem, are lying.

    Some FACTS for you:

Letter from Immigration cost only a few houndred baht

Letter from some Embassies cost up to 2.000 baht!

But I guess you prefer the latest option according to your post ....

Letter from Immigration, are in Thai.

Letter from Embassies, are in English, guess which one they prefer?

Some land transport offices issue a new DL withour problem - other dont!

I lived here 10+ years, some years its easy, other years I had big problem too!

Last time, land transportation office wanted me to take the driving test again!!!

I denied - they denied me renewal.

Next day other land transportation office - got a new DL without a new driving test!

    Thats my FACTS.

But reading your post, I guess I am just another lier, among many more here who write about their problem about renewal.

People have different experiences when living here, accept that and stop call people "bulls..."

    * next time - think about your post before you post it *

(or another better option, send a PM to a moderator, and they can delete your post) :)

  10. I use LG Plasma 42" and no problem here with UBC.

UBC remote control, have you checked the options there?

    from 4:3 to 16:9 ?

    : Menu - Installation.

Your TV have many Options like: Zoom 1 - Zoom 2 - Spectacle - 4:3 and 16:9. Have you tried a l l of them too?

If still seem stretched, call NumChai and ask them come your home and try adjust the TV to UBC, before you downsize your TV.

If you just went from traditional TV size 29" or less, it takes some time for your eyes to get adjusted to the new format. When we visit family and look standard TV size, I always feel my TV is strange the first days after getting home, stretched like you say.

When you watch Sophon cable, picture not "stretched" ?

Sorry if this to no help, but have never heard about your problem before.

(dont think the size is the problem here, many bars have 50" and even bigger without streching)

Keeping iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS within acceptable operating temperatures

    • Last Modified: June 25, 2009
    • Article: HT2101

    Summary

Learn about the operating temperatures and temperature management of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

    Products Affected

    iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

Operate iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to temporarily stop working properly.

Store iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don't leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

If the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:

    • The device stops charging
    • Display dims
    • Weak cellular signal
    • Temperature warning screen appears with the message "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it"

  13. Penang, Malaysia. issued the same 1-2 years ago. We all got the same stamp before.

Next time your son can go to Vientiane,Laos and get 2 entry tourist visa.

I had the red stamp in my passport when i went to Laos - no problem at all.

Read updated reports on this forum, and your son know where to go next time.

    :)

  14. would like to know if somebody could tell me the prices for p.o. boxes at the post office in bangkok and pattaya.

    :)

  15. so did you choose Avira free antivirus OR the Kaspersky you paid for ? We all want to know. Did you uninstall kaspersky before you start Avira ?????

Your main problem is all your software are outdated, and must be updated regulary.= Now and regulary.

Changing antivirus program dont solve the problem - it will still be there, in your computer, but the freeware antivirus program might or might not detect them.

Is like being sick, and change your insurance company, nothing else - you still be sick until you cure the problem.

You rushed from AVG to Kaspersky, then in 7-8 hours you uninstall your paid Kaspersky and now go for Avira ??????????

    Doesn't solve your problem.

Talk with your fellow moderators, some of them are expert in this field.

Shure we haven't heard the last of this.

    :)

  16. The expats club health plan u s e d to be cheap. This year the premium skyrocketing, because of many old member been sick and used their expat insurance. Now n o t cheap for anyone.

In my case, same coverage as the expatclub, going direct to Bupa I saved 6.000 baht (USD 180) for premium year 2009-2010.

    Why use a agent?

I asked the agent the previous poster recommend, they could not beat Bupa premium, when we compared all other insurance companies with similar coverage plan. Again, why use a agent?

  17. Hello,

Last March I was admitted to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for food poisoning.

Arrived Friday evening and was discharged Monday afternoon after four pm.

The room was absolutely fabulous and I haven't seen anything like it in Canada or in the USA.

Flat screen TV, refrigerator, Microwave, safe, couch, breakfast nook and a great view.....

My wife spend a month at the University of Michigan Hospital and her room couldn't even compare and at times she had to share with another patient.

The Nurses at BPH were very professional, maybe even a little too professional as they weren't too friendly, but maybe that's the way they were expected to behave !

Food was excellent, no complains there either !

The only problem I encountered was with the payment of the services.

I had to guarantee the hospital bill with my credit card otherwise I might still be there. (grin)

Total cost for my 3 day stay was $ 1600,00 which is really inexpensive if you compare it with US hospital prices.

My wife just got her insurance hospital bill for her stay at the U of M hospital which was $ 225.000,00

The Insurance company was really slow paying BPH, so BPH charged my credit card the 1600,00 which send my debit card in the red a couple of times <G>

Lesson learned: do not just take debit cards with you; take at least 1 regular credit card with a high limit !

    Question:

I understand that not everybody has a US health Insurer and I also understand that not everybody ends up at the tenth floor at BPH, so what kind insurance is available in Pattaya for health care, what does it cost, and what kind of care can you expect from it ?

What hospital do regular Thai people attend ?

I have read about an insurance that you have to start before you are 59 and was wondering if it would make sense for me to consider it.

    Kind regards,

    Nick from Michigan

Search for bupa thailand and you can see example of different coverage.

They have short time insurance plans for 1-6 months too, i think the name was "sun care" or similar. And their office in Pattaya is just before BPH, near intersection Sukhumvit/ Pattaya Nua.

Yearly premium (dont know your age or what coverage you want) from USD 400 - USD 1.500 +

Thais go to Banglamung hospital, you and I wouldnt survive one night there, Have good doctors there, but share room with 4-8 people, no aircon, lack of nurses, 20 's of family visiting etc. You get the idea.

Many expats use army hopital in Sattahip, much cheaper than BPH.

Search the "health, body and medicine" forum here, many good advice and all kind of experiences.

    :)

  18. Do not clean and reformat your hard drives based on this. First of you do not know what it is or if it really is a problem. If your virus software has found it it should be able to remove it or give you instructions how to get rid of it.

Most likely it is some standard warning that it might be a virus but it can also be part of software that is harmless and needed by some sw you have installed.

So find out what it is first. If the scan gives you any name of the virus then just google it and you find lot of info what it really is. If this fails wait until monday and call say US support where you can get english service.

You will regret if you format your drives. You are not only required to install windows again but then you need to run all the updates from the net that can take a day easily if not even more. Then you need to download and install everything else. Office package, other sw's and not to mention you need to re-install you printers etc etc and run latest updates on their drivers etc etc. Sure you can take it to pc shop and get the basics done there but i doubt they download from the net the latest updates. So it is couple of days work to do.

I would use this only as last option if everything else fails.

MJo see the original post, the message does not name any virus. It states "vulnerabilities" and then gives an (apparentlyt no longer active) website reference. And whatever it is, it did not clean it as it continued to show on repeat scans.

As for format I already did a "restore to factory settings" and reinstallation of windows as after the initial infection, virus scanning to remove the viruses resulted in complete corruption of all Windows files, inability to reboot, and all usual measures (safe mode, systome restore etc) were to no avail.

As for my files, unless someone is able top salvage them from 2 infected flash drived they are all already lost. Every possible anti-virus program has been tried on those flash drives, never show anything b ut the second the files are copied onto a hard drive it is infected. And all of what used to be word docs on those flash drives now appear as "application" programs of identiical byte size so I am thinking there is little hope, but we'll see.

My computer is a lenovo and it has a paritioned area with special lenovo files there, my concern is that virus may be hiding there. That's why the Kaspersky report (which remains unexplained) had me so spooked.

As noted above, uninstalled Kaspersky (had to as it blocked all online access). Downloaded installed and ran Avira, which found nothing.

    Maybe just a Kaspersky glitch?

    :)

    Sheryl - I use Kaspersky 2009.

The "vulnerabilities" you get on your screen, is mostly about outdated software you use, like Adobe Reader older version, Flash Player, etc. In short, if you update all your software, you will not get any security warnings or vulnerabilities. Old software that you downloaded long time ago, and now can be easily attacked by Hackers, is what you now get "vulnerability / warnings" about.

If you still want to keep Kaspersky (as you paid THB 700 for) do this :

1: right corner down, you see the red/black K (for Kaspersky)

2: right click on your mouse on that "K"

3: when you see "vulnerabilities" you right click again and then click "descriptions"

4: then scroll down to "recommendations", here you see highlighted options to update your software from a manufacturer of that software, update to newest version.

When you done this to all vulnerabilities, take a new full scan, and you should now be clean, no warnings.

Can explain you much more, but if you already uninstall Kaspersky and want to use a free anti virus , then never mind.

Seen many members recommend free anti virus - just remember the best things in life is not free.

There are as many opinions about different antivirus as there is members here. I did try AVG and Avast and Avira, tested them all, I still love Kaspersky (and will buy the next coming version).

Try learn and understand that this progran scan deeper than the other free programs.

PM me if you want continue use your Kaspersky, and I can try answer your Q.

    :D
