  1. there used to be a place within walking distance of the East Gate at CM that rented 4x4.

They did not have any when i wanted one, but plenty of prior advertising & lots of pic on the  walls of mainly Suzuki set up for off road use (ie MT and lift to suit)

Also used to be a place in Kanchanaburi area that did proper organised off road trips (fully kitted hilux).   Ran by a pom from what i could make out.  Ive lost the details, sorry

  2. depending on the damage, it might be repairable.

Alternatively consider one from China - cant be much worse, or one froma wreck

VGT (like on the Fortuner or Hilux 1KD-FTV engine - same turbo) are known in the industry to be less reliable tan the old wastegated models. Same applies to other brands too

Now if you want a high performance model that bolts right on I can help out :-)

  3. Dont hold high hopes of meeting them on dating sites.

There are some lovely & decent ladies, but you are going to have to try harder to find them then in western countries. They tend not to go out as much.

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. If you are in professinal circles start looking there, NOT the bars.

  4. Maybe she was on her lunch break and had no where to go in the Airport so she sat at her desk .

There is an office/ recreation area right behind the front desk. You can see it, and staff coming in and out. Fair enough if shes on lunch and nobody else to cover, but dont sit at the front desk in full view playing with your phone!!!

I hate AirAsia counter staff they are the most un-professional and rude people I have ever come across. I made the mistake of using Airasia to fly to Jakarta. Learnt my lesson, never again!!!!!!!!!!

Add just about any other 3rd tier carrier to that. Not just Thailand - most of asia

The staff get paid if they work or not - why would they bother???

  5. Use Amazon or eBay/PayPal. If you can't buy it there, forget it.

Sometimes payple is the scam. Wait till they lock your account for 180 days - no correspondence will be entered.

Yes for sellers it sucks - as you are always having to justify you have done the correct thing, but the buyer can make any accusation they like.

Advice for sellers, keep bugger all money in the account - make sure there is no overdraft capability!

Advice for buy, lodge a dispute if the item is not in in your hands in 30 days, and the moment there is a problem.

The 180 day account lock can stuff your online business- make sure you have an alternative online payment system.

  6. In the UK I have had a couple of bad experiences only in restaurants and on the whole just by talking with management I thought they dealt with my complaint very well. I just firmly and quietly stated that I wouldnt be paying for the meal and it was handled very well by Management.

There is an old English law which covers you in this regard I believe.

In Thailand, I tend not to complain for obvious reasons but I dont go back.

In Australia a family group were dished up an "off" chicken curry of which we all became very ill.. the owner failed to even acknowledge it and I called in the Health department ... they acted very swiftly and the Restaurant was issued with a severe warning notice and a fine.

No I guess I am not that tolerant when paying substantial amounts .. "word of mouth" advertising usually does the trick for me.

    Free meals

    UK

It is a criminal offence on your part to go into a restaurant and order a meal with the intention of not paying for it. Restaurants often wrongly believe this means you have to pay for a meal whatever the circumstances. This is not the case. So long as you have a genuine reason for not paying and you leave your name and address, you have not acted in any way dishonestly.

If the food is the problem, I pay the bill as usual and give a tip as usual, but don't return.

If the service is the problem, I pay the bill but give less or no tip, and again don't return.

I never cause a scene in a restaurant but I do warn friends when I have had a bad experience.

Until restaurant review websites start operating in Thailand, some trial-and-error is unavoidable.

If its not acceptable, after asking them to 'fix' it, then leave a tip by all means.

1 B in the middle of the gooey remants of whats left.

ANY place providing service of any type that does not make an attempt rectify their problem does not deserve to have any customers.

Also there is nothing like FREE advertising - how bad they are. I do give free advertising too (both the good and bad).

I doubt that anybody in asia will be interested in UK laws. Also I beleive that they need feed & water your horse if you check into a hotel (thats an ozzy one carried over from UK too). You do get strange looks in Oz when you jokingly ask them to stable your horse overnight.

  7. If you are looking at VoIP you might also want to consider Zultys - been using the same one for 7 years.

It is very important to look at the INCLUDED functionality, plus the expansion options.

Take Shawns advice well - I would recommend each of his points strongly.

Tip #5 - pay on completion of the works - a decent outfit will not have an issue with this.

  8. based on experience you MAY get wifi in the rooms of the more expensive hotels. Lower cost hotels may offer it in reception or at a cost

Generally it will work out cheaper to get a Internet SIM and use it where and as you wish (including places other than the hotel).

Recently 899B (about $30) would get you 3GB Internet with 1 month expiry (not always 3G mobile - depends on location & carrier). Every time I arrive at the airport I get it topped up. Just recharge if you use it all.

They will take care of all the loading of the SIM & credit at the carrier desk at the airport. Works a treat and good service too.

I also get a local phone sim too if you dont already have one - simplifies call locals on local numbers

  9. For wireless security, I have activated MAC filtering too.

Waste of time except for casual hacker - its easy to duplicate a MAC address of an existing device that can access the WIFI

Use WAP2-PSK with a decent size mixed character password

  10. Its not far to Mochit Station (by cab) from th bus station.

From there you can get into town, and to the Airport Link for about 120B.

A cab will cost you 400-500B.

Since you did not identify the hotel, we can only summise its walking distance from the Airport Link.

  11. Thank you. I remember now that is possible with online banking. I had been looking for a place on the TrueMove site to do that.

However now I am still uncertain how can I purchase a package (I want unlimited internet) without a cell phone (dialing). Thanks.

I think the only way is put the sim in a phone and dial a Code (but this just guessing), maybe you can call the True Helpdesk ?

    Edit: //

I am looking for you on the True Website, but it seems that they have updated their website, and the English Language Button is not working on many of the Pages.

    Can you send sms's ??

According to this page: http://www3.truecorp...ackagedetail/79 you can subscribe packages by sending an SMS (with the package number) to 9789

Another simple solution would be, find the code for the package you want, go to a Phone Shop ask them to borrow a 3G phone (maybe the sim even works in a normal (no 3G phone) ) and punch in the codes and press send. wink.png

Yep, wack the Internet SIM in your phone - send to what ever number they list for your selected plan and your away (until it expires).

I usually have them do it for me at the shop since they are munch better at reading the Thai instructions.

  12. Wow. I think NASA vegas is probably my best bet. 12000 for a month with electricity and water included. Can anyone beat that???

how did you get 12000 baht for a month? rates on their site show min of 890 baht a night? looks like a nice hotel....

He is referering to the apartments across the road / rail line from the hotel. I can t remember the price but it is reasonable (for farang) I have neveer seen inside so cant comemnt. However a freind of a friend lives there (Thai)

There is a 7/11 type shop & laundry on the ground.

  13. A couple of things to be aware of (based on experience) relating foam filters;

    a. use correct cleaning materials

    b. use the oil as directed (exactly)

    c. they are no good on anything with high vacuum (esseciallty turbo engines)

    d. the foam WILL decompose - replace when starts to crumble or goes hard

    e. ensure it seals properly (or the whole excresise is wasted)

An inbox pod or panel filter will do just as good, and NOT be open to the elements (like water/rain). There is no measurable difference between foam pod to in box panel or pod filter for normal usage (on a small bike)

  14. Definitely put them in concert , steel reinforced. Take photos before and after..... To be extra safe Pay an Land officer to come out and watch you do it. This is what i have done... And they will not be moved...

Surely if the survey is done correctly it will reference a number of other 'known' points to establish each individual marker location (irrespective if it is currently in the correct location or otherwise)? Would it not be illegal to manipulate these official govt entities (it is on most other countries)?

Get the govt to establish it as one of their reference markers (maybe with a little assistance), then they will be the one installing it & not you.

  15. As far as problems with Agoda - none

However they dont reply in a timely manner to email (read ever), and it can take some time for the hotel to get notification.

With all of the hotel booking agencies check WHAT you are booking (room, breakfast? gym? wfifi? etc), and what the hotel offers direct. I have booked places via booking agency and foind that the advertised rate was 2/3 the booking agency listed amount

Re calling them in Thailand - I find having to call London on their business hours for a global service non economical and a pain in the butt.
