  1. I once asked a young lady in BKK, who was doing menial work in a restaurant, why she didn't work bar in Pattaya, or the likes, as the money would be better. Her reply was " there are things in ones life one should never do. The first being never to sell ones body" . There's a difference between selling ones body and "enjoyed a few men".

What a gentleman you are Suinbin! and I'm sure you would do the same in a western country and ask a restaurant female employee why she didn't go into prostitution rather than continue her current position, so no preconceived ideas here then, oh dear, oh dear………………

  2. A s a "newbie" here I would just like to make the point that it is very unwise to make general assumptions about any group, cultural or otherwise.Cheers

    I couldn't agree more.

It still amazes me that on TV we so often have to state the obvious to so many, however, it doesn’t surprise me that those that need the obvious pointing out to them often end up in poor relationships with Thai/Issan/or any other nationality ladies.

I wonder if there is a connection  ...........................................?

  3. I like the final 23, its a very strong squad and any team will want to avoid us, until the latter stages when, as we know, anything can happen,

Gerrard and Lampard can't play together, wake up and smell the roses, any other team would kill for such a problem

It's time to stop the <deleted> and get behind the team........

    COME ON ENGLAND!!

    Bias, absolutely!!

  4. David,

thanks for the response and excuse my ignorance, but for the AC switch would I buy 10 or 15 or 20 amp switches?

& I take it that a standard Australia 3 speed fan switch will work?

The guys in John R Turks wouldnt give advice (stating they were not sparkies) so I need to be very specific about what I want

    thanks again Roy

  5. I am building a house in Issan (but doing it whilst living in the US) on a recent trip to inspect the property I was amazed to see the size of the switches they had installed for my ceiling fans and the on/off switch for the panasonic individual room AC units. They are huge, looking like something out of a Boris Karloff movie when they powered up Frankistien!!

So I am in Australia for the next 4 days and thought I would pick up some switches (smaller than a kitchen cabinet) and take they back to Thailand next week before returning to the States.

So my questions is for our electrical experts are:

    1. what amp rating switch would I need for the AC units (these units will be Panasonic for average size rooms domestic use) & can I use a switch with the correct ampage that on the surface looks like a light switch?

    2. is a 3 position fan switch purchase in Oz going to work ok in Thailand (ceiling fans are just average normal fans purchasecd in Thailand)?

    3. will these 2 switches be able to be mounted in the same switch unit (the size of a double light switch)?

I tried to discuss with my builder/electrician and was told they didnt sell these up country and not sure they understood me. Also I dont have anytime to look in Bkk so Oz is my last hope.

Thanks very much in advance Roy

  6. Dare I ask.......Looking beyond the weekend! I'm not counting my chickens, just interested in some opinions. If Spurs end up in the top 4 is it sustainable for us, will the funds from hopefully a half decent run in the CL and the re-awakening of, and some new support be enough to become a part of the establishment? I think we would all agree that United and Chelsea will feature for the foreseeable future, Man City will inevitable become a member as long as the owner doesn't get bored with football. So going forward we would need to out perform liverpool, Arsenal and those (like us this year) that will have good seasons and challenge. Thoughts?
If we can buy a top quality striker we have every chance of continuing to do well. Its an excellent squad at the moment maybe if there's enough cash another central defender to cover King and Woodgate's inevitable injuries. Liverpool are a mess and will take years to sort out imo. That leaves five clubs chasing four spots. Not bad odds really. Big question mark however remains on a new stadium.
Here they go... :D " We're gonna be a big Club soon, we're gonna be a big Club soon.." Bwahahaha " If we finish top 4..........If we buy a quality Striker..." :)

Your not expected to understand such planning strategies Mr Singh

  8. Start by having a look here, http://www3.thailisting.com/default.aspx?a...T=Land&l=en Last year the mrs was offered land at anywhere from 65,000 up to 300,000 baht per rai. Price of course depends on title deed and location. One thing I found is a discount will be given for larger purchases if paying cash. The mrs could have bought a 4 rai plot for 1 million baht instead of 1.2 million. Mrs is still looking for a suitable piece of land and we will be heading back down that way in the next few weeks. Plenty of rubber tree farms as well as a lot of fruit farms for sale.

    Thx RGS, good website

    Good luck with your search

    Roy

  9. I tend to agree with the above statements, however, Derby & Nottingham Forest were smaller clubs that hit dizzy heights.

If you look at recent-ish England managers with a similar profile none have given us the success that we crave and many have been embarrassingly poor, whilst Clough did wonders with smaller clubs (no offence intended to their supporters) would that have transposed into success for England when you can choose from the top draw.

  10. Testing the GF??..........if someone was "testing" the BF he would fail miserably.

Nobody who loves and respects their GF/wife would ever dream of doing such a thing or be deluded enough to think the "test" would give them a true indication of anything other than an insight into oneself.

Exactly Roy. I take it you are an Arsenal supporter, we're doing well aren't we?

way off topic DreamRider, way way off topic :)

  12. 3 br (2 up, 1dn), 4 bath, billiard room, western + Thai kitchens, dining, living room, etc. Cheers.

    Your place looks great

I like your Thai style gazebo, was thinking of putting something like that in my place straddling a fish pond. Any advice for me?

Thanks. The "sala" was made by a local constructer using "old" wood, wagon wheels, etc. included fan and lights. But, it was about 30K delivered. :) They look simple enough to build but probably need tools that I don't have here. Anyway, you can find these things many parts of Thailand. I sent the wife to bargain as she's good at it and thus hopefully avoided the "farang price". Cheers.

Here is our sala. Specifically it is a some (rhyming with home).

    post-46181-1264799979_thumb.jpg

    It only cost 25,000 baht.

Looks really nice Gorber! what about the maintenance on such detailed woodwork?

A simplified version of the wooden sala is used as an alternative to the styrofoam sala, which is burned with the body at the cremation ceremony. More expensive but more permanent and not polluting.

The wooden sala can then be used as a memorial around the village. In the case of my wife's brother, we put his next to the bus stop so people can use it as a place to sit and wait for the bus.

Some Thais will be superstitious about having something like that around the house while others will not. You might want to ask the wife what she thinks about the idea. If you dress it up a bit, like the one in the picture, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks gents for the good info, I had previously shown my wife the picture and she seemed very keen on the idea, but wait a minute, maybe she see's it as a dual purpose thing, sit in the garden with him for a while and when bored cremate him in it :D ..............................think I'll put up a pergola instead, safer :D

  14. Suggest that the Berb was a special player in a mediocre/decent Spurs team, great business selling him for 30m and doesn't standout or fit with the United style of play, would take him back for $15m though (not such a wan$er IMHO)

    Let's make a deal

We give you Berba, Carrick, Nani and Foster / Kucheck and you give us Defoe, Modric, Palacios and Dawson.

Nani and Foster / Kucheck!! take the rough with the smooth right? wouldnt swop Berba for Defoe or Moderic for Carrick, how about Keane (he goes well in the North East) for Berba?

  16. Dont know how much longer we will be able to hold on to lennon, fully expect utd to come knocking on the door as per usual,

If Snow White doesnt come calling first. :)

Id bet Fergies had enough of buying players that look good at Spurs but cant take it to the next level, thi bloke fits that bill IMHO.

must admit I like the line about Snow White, the rest is b_llocks

  17. By far the better side, even if we had a decent 11 you would prbably still have beaten us, given the amount of $$ you've spent over the last few seasons & anyone who says otherwise is a Div..

Well done T*ttenham, you should be proud...

Mr Singh, almost gracious in defeat............impressed. Must admit I like the Hammers and hope they can turn their season around......................... well we need a good selling club in the prem :)

  18. Spoonman, as I said my hairstyle is not by choice and unfortunately people do associate shaven heads with trouble. I am buy no means a mouthy person as members of this forum who know me will confirm and will most expats in Nongkhai.

Kandahar, thanks for the honest reply...yes I do go about my business with a smile on my face...like to socialise with friends, spend most of my days and nights with my family but when I do go out I dont expect to be started on by random strangers because they've had a few drinks and fancy their chances...totally unprevoked. I'm not going to stoop to their level.

It just seems to be happening alot recently and has happened with many other expats that live here. And the perpertrators are always Swedish or Danish. Go to Pattaya if you like that sort of thing, Dont bring it to Nongkhai. The expats that live here, live here because we like the peaceful enviroment that Nongkhai and surrounding areas offer.

    Guemlum

alot of good avice here Guemlum especially from Kandahar, bottom line is there is only one person you can control and its yourself.

You also might want to do some soul searching to see if it is something you are doing?? just a thought, good luck mate and enjoy the peaceful life

  19. 3 points all the way!.............................well we cant be losing these kind of games if our top 4 target is to be acheived, will take the draw though in all honesty

    These types of Games ??

They finished above you in the Table last Season, have just come off the back of beating Man United 3-0 & are flying in the UEFA Cup & you call it " these types of Games " ??? :)

The arrogance & complete lack of respect NEVER ceases to amaze me...

Then i just realised what Thread i was in, silly me... :D

    Surely you jest, arrogant??

    [/size]

In fact you point out all the reasons I would make my statement about "not losing these types of games": the opponents are Fulham, who finished seventh and are still in Europe…………………………

If you saw the game you would have seen an even game and nobody surprised that we managed a point.

Jest i do Royston, an awful lot too..

But never when the words T*ttenham, Arrogant & Supporters are in the same senetence as the go hand in hand, like Pigs & sh*t.. :D

thank's for the clarification Mr Singh, I thought I might have been dealing with someone with a point

Just read over the past 48 Pages of this Thread & i'm sure you'll see my Point.. :D

well that should be a good read then :D
