Great info here. We are small-scale potted flower-orchid growers just moving into the vegetable space at our new home. Got a lot to learn! Maybe not ambitious enough for avocados ????

Yes, Mae Jo U. does soil testing and we know people there so it will get done.

We are planting vegetables and avocados. Seems like raised beds might be an option.  The tiller idea might not be best at this point.  Land (fill) is like concrete now in the dry season but locals say it is not bad.

I need a tiller for improving hard clay soil, 1 rai. What's a good brand I can buy in Chiang Mai for a reasonable price? Any advice for improvement additives: dung, fiber, black soil, etc. 

Custom wood benches needed for a front porch (teak or other hardwood, avoiding the Thai "boraan" concrete style)  - reasonable price, of course. Any suggestions?

Have been told (by a tesaban worker)  the tesaban will not do private property work unless trees are adjacent to a public road.  But I'm willing to bet there may be some flexibility here.

The local handyman guys (we know them well) say they can handle the job but I'm looking for licensed (and insured) pros.

Check out Biogents. They have a distributor in Pattaya (not me.) I have two units because they actually work quite well on dengue mosqitos. That is an understatement. They work incredibly well. The scented baits are 600 baht and last about 2 or 3 months. Right now one of my traps has hundreds if not a thousand dead, dehydrated mossies.

If doctors organized a July 4th affair it would be 1200 baht per adult and include all-you-can-probe medical screening.

NaiGreg re Yoshi and Bua...... If ever there was a couple that might be framed as the odd couple.... it certainly would have been Yoshi & Bua....

Yoshi literally lived his live as if it were a movie script, would probably be the best way I could put it. Bua , unfortunately passed away a few years back, cancer I believe. the last I heard re Yoshi was that he [ by someone official] was told not to come back to CM. Have completely lost touch with him now. The stories re those two are endless..... I do hope that both their spirits are at rest wherever they are and I have to say my life has been fuller for having known them

PS one of the best Yoshi tales was the time after having a serious discussion {mildly put} with Bua, Yoshi proceeded to drive his vehicle right through the front of the VooDoo Lounge ..... When the police got there Yoshi told them he was putting in a garage door. ! ! ! ??????

Yoshi was the first person I met in Chiang Mai. I must have looked lost (I was) and he stopped to offer a private tour of the neighborhood. The tour lasted for weeks, at least 200 bottles of beer and countless shots. Yes, Yoshi and Bua did not mind airing their grievances loudly in the middle of the bar. I remember inspecting the famous car parking damage the following morning. He liked to get the last word! Here is a happy pic of them from New Years Eve 1999 just outside the Voodoo lounge.

Does anyone know what happened to Yoshi (and Bua) who ran the Voodoo Lounge across the street from the Irish Pub. (1999-2000 ??) The regular band's signature song was a cover of "Limestone Cowboy"

Noticeable drop off in Internet web site session reliability last few weeks with 3BB. The ADSL line itself has been rock solid, and non-HTTP traffic has been good, so it is definitely related to some kind of web traffic filtering/shaping and/or contention/congestion.

I have an appointment on the very last day that my previous extension permits at Immigration in Chiang Mai. In the past we have always gone to apply for an extension about 3 weeks in advance.

What is the risk going on the last day (other than a road accident or serious illness?) Is there a hard rule about this? I ask because appointments are ridiculously hard to get and impossible to change.
