1. Thanks for that. Instead of an ebook, was more inclined toward Andoid app with material contsined within. Link to Play store. Might also reduce content theft?

I have no plans to sell "stuff'.

Seems like bazillions of people using WP. Given my lack of experience, its a must. If I do later try to add gear, Id just need to spin it off into its own store somehow.

My focus now is revenue on page hits, clicks and the app/s

  2. what, specifically, did you do when the KR were systematically torturing and murdering Cambodian families ? Did you attempt any form of protest when Pol Pot was given sanctuary in Thailand ?

Well not much fool, the US did very little to make Cambodia a household world before or after the nation pulled out of the war - which we did when I was entering puberty at 13. By the time the KR collapsed, I had not even graduated HS. But even at this early age, I was political and was anti war. I have been anti war all my life.

What is to protest? When a nation decides to wholesale screw its people, its game over. There is nothing to protest. When something like Myanmar, Syria or Isreal occurs - the message is quite clear. That message is...we do what we want.

The relationship that developed in the early 80s was based on logging and mining and continued with the assistance of the Thai army. The logging and gemstone operations went on until the very end. Since when does the world have any impact on whatba bunch of rogue army units do in a jungle let alone a quite unstable Thai govt.

But that is the easiest of this puzzle to understand because you need to now toss in Cambodian refugees on the border no one wants and refuse to go back out of both fear for life and starvation. The US which wholesale tuned its back on Cambodia as the Viets were running the joint. Vietnam trying to come to grips with reconciling itself as well as propping up its neighbors less they become anarchic and lawless.

I majored in History at one of the top 100 universities in the US, SEA and the Vietnam conflict a concentration.

Id lived in Cambodia for the most part from very late 93 to 96. I've made many trips since. Id lived in a city that had the highest population of Khmer outdide Phnom Penh. Finally, Ive had two very serious relationships with Khmer women in the US and Phnom Penh. Dont get all righteous with me about Cambodia bro.

what have you done while the military junta in Burma have carried out atrocities on their own people while you partied it up right next door in Thailand ?

First, the nations name is Myanmar. You need to get that straight. No amount of your petty protest by using the colonial British name matters or will change that. I have made four trips into Myanmar. Ive also had my share of scrapes with the law there. I have been found and turned back on remote roads (94-96). I was both times held against my will and guarded in a hotel and placed on transport back into central Myanmar. I corresponded with a number of dissidents from 94 to this date where now we just hit each other up on facebook. I pretty much lost the torch there as SuuKyi aged. She lost her spirit, the people lost their way. They want Walmart not freedom. But thanks for the blind criticism.

where were you when the TNI were raping and killing Acehnese, as they continue to do to the people of West Papua right now ?

Well, I'm not Superman but I have visited Aceh many times. My Indonesian is as good as my Thai after despite not visiting other than Bali in years. I've been hassled by GAM fighters. Im indifferent to their plight. Everyone wants to be free but I do not see how conservative Islam brungs freedom in practice. As for Papua, Indo has a history of treating its people, especially minorities badly (Timor?).

How many Hmong have you sheltered from the reprisals carried our by the Laotian and Vietnamese governments ?

Well, I used to go to the Hmong NY festival in the community where I lived religiously. I made it a point to patronize their businesses. Many Hmong lived in the Khmer community. I have some photos of the last festival I attended in 97 before I left for Asia for good. Want me to post them for proof? So, please...blow me.

what have you done to shine a light on extra-judicial killings in southern Thailand ? I guess they're Muslims, so that makes it OK ?

The south is a real mess. I sympathize and always have with movements of self determination but what the muslims ate doing in the south is pure terrorism in its most literal sense. It used to be fun and games, but someone went to a conflict zone and learned how to make some serious bombs and its now escalated. Im so fed up with those stupid people, Im sort of som nam naa about it all.

Thailand cannot and should not allow them to breakaway

Malaysia does not want poor, ignorant, radicalized citizens

The notion of a pan Islamic calaphate is a wetdream

The people and their cause is just <deleted> ignorant

They might want to visit Issan to see what poverty and no rain looks like

I've done SFA, but I dont stand on a soap box ranting about the oppressive regime in Laos : from where I sit, they ALL have blood on their hands. If you are in any way serious about doing something beyond posturing, I'd suggest this is a very good start:

In addition to that, I have looked at the US diplomatic corp as career option and been waitlisted in the Peace Corp.

    Spare me the lectures.

    I don't need your lectures.

  3. Thanks trogers, aleays value your opinion.

Appreciation? I can't beleive someone would buy property (anywhere) especially at this moment in history and factor in "appreciation". In Thailand seems like just as much depreciating force is working against you. Not daying that units can't or don't appreciate. Just think its pure folly to assume that they will, even more so to put a number on it as a rationale and factor for "investment".

I bet condos hide huge pools of black money in this country. Not so concerned about rental income or returns.

All the building now, cannot possibly see how the local Thai can abdorb these units at asking prices. Im seeing signs everywhere of cracks...

Condos in.buildings now being aggressively rented with signage

Signage with markdowns of substsntial "savings"

    Giveaways...iPhones to automobiles

They will do absolutely anything and everything - except simply offer units at fair market.

And they build more and more because money, labor and materials are cheap. Yes money, you don't think for a second theybare borrowing for 30yrs at 7% do you??!

But whatever the loan rate, how can developers stay afloat selling less than have if the business? Maybe its just a break even game now. The rest are rented and sold whenever. So like the noodle vendor in.the street, everyone in Thailand suffers with low profit margins.

  4. Is the fake Cialis nothing more than fake Viagra? OI had a discussion on the border with a guy about this some years back. My cynical self thought so. I am why would the Chinese bother? No if it actually exists somewhere as a generic, perhaps. Anyway, curious.

  5. They could just start turning away people with tattoos, that would be a great start - no brainer to weed out the no brainers. I mean, what says IQ <100 more than some stupid picture copied off a tattoo parlor wall, inane scribbling or the worst foreign script (Thai) stained into your body you cannot read, pronounce, understand or explain? Even better, the "tribal tattoo" -from the tribe Morona no doubt.

Asian people with Buddhist or animist tattoos excepted*

  6. As usual, I am overwhelmed by the compassion of the TV brigade.

Must not be easy fitting into that brown shirt with the beer gut and all...

A puppet state known for all sorts of human rights abuse. A vassal of vietnam, a private mafia for a bunch of upcountry bumpkins who hold the entire nation hostage.

The "communists" were able to become defacto rulers merely by being the last farmers standing. They have delivered only midery and incompetence to the nation to this day. It's Hmong "minorities" hunted to this very day. It's human rights advocates disappear as if they lived in - a communist country.

I'll let you get back to your beer and ping pong show, I need a shower...

  7. The two last offers are closer to Sutthisan MRT than Huay Kwang. It is very local up there (good or bad, you decide). Sutthisan has a nice old school market for take away food if you like that sort of thing. There are no malls, BigC, Big Tesco or Tops in this area.

  8. Quick few questions

Always go with. com - got it.

Is a long name easily remembered better than a short name or jumble of letters?

Do lots of sites get jacked by people either ripping the site or outting a facsimile of yours and add the or plural...like that?

If you have similar concepts for sites, what about using one domain and the subdomain? Arguably one site much easier to manage than five. Less costly and people might even pop over to a similar site.

I never learned to build a website, always had the idea why I want to give my secrets and photos away free. Is there a beginners website group in Bangkok? I saw a Wordpress group on Meetup.

Finally - for a basic site. Should I build with Wordpress or just use hostgator template?

I want to run ad manager and sell some ematerials. Create Android app if I can find the right app.

    Ok thanks

  9. To save time and hassle, you can doctor up most sauces to make a respectable red sauce. The big problem is if you use a sauce with a lot of sugar. Anyway, you can add paste, olive oil, garlic, onion and veggies.

Another spin - fresh tomatos, onion touch of paste, oil, garlic, herbs.

butter, olive oil and herbs or olive oil, loads of garlic herbs (parmasean cheeze a must).

Pesto sauce is awesome but never tried it with Thai basil. No idea what nuts you might use.

Of course fresh herbs make the dish

Onions are horrible in this country

  10. QE is a horrible remedy, but at least if it were spent on something positive it would remove the money from the economy. Nothing like what the US has done. It would even create jobs. It sucks because well, its QE and that debases the currency and once you print money and put it into circulation, its very painful for the economy to draw it back in.

Strong baht has nothong to do with law where the poors are supposed to be paid b300 for their 12 hour day. Even Issan security guards are making this already. Thats just bs for the elite to depress wages.

  11. I worked with an agency when I first came to Thailand. Look for one that will send you visa documents to you in your country so that you can get the proper visa before entering (saves hassles later), and also offers reimbursement for work permit expenses.

If you can, look for something that is a semester long contract. If you love where you are after the first semester, sign on again. If not, then it was only a half of a year and you can try to find something else yourself. That's what I did.

    Good luck!

That sounds like (?) a year of being employed sans work permit?

  12. Well, it did appear tonweaken the thb about 25 satang. So if they get down to <2% then the thb might be in the range some have defined as workable (30.5).

This if money is actually loaned at these cheap rates, its going to overheat the already overheated property market.

Thailand needs to QE, and then put that money into public infrastructure.

What Thailand teally needs to do short term is provide cash relief to agro exporters, see what shakes out in the world in next 24 months. Japan, EU snd US so instable.

Some things like QE cannot be undone. Even jacking up interest rates after all the cronie borrowing sprees not effective.

Thailand needs to start to support and develop value added for farmers.

    Mango's in Tops rotting...4 for b19.

  13. Yes work permit a must, i just shipped my personal belongings from Hong Kong to BKK, using asian tiger (shipping company). Tried to send it in my wifes name (thai) but still had to pay taxes as she didnt stay in HK more then a year that was required. Ended up paying 5500b. Also asian tigre would NOT be able to ship items in my name as no WP!

How eas the duration of her stay outside Thailand verified?

    Thx

  14. Jim Rogers mantra of the last decade is the city people will be broke and jobless and the farmers will be driving Mercedes.

But JR is an idiot, Andrew the real genius.

I love gardening, wish I could have some land, but im stuck in BKK with the wife.

Enjoy going back to US to visit my parents. All the small farms... -where the stupid farmers subdivided land and built luxury homes and took their savings and invested it in nearby resort city, idiots I tell you!

  15. Our contract kinda sucks. It says we will be charged b400 (wife says they raised it to 500 now), in addition 500 for drapes. Kinda bs because we keep it so clean. Never had drapes charge in my life as renter but <deleted>.

I think our contract is vague, just mentions cleaning.

Ours in.big building and in fairness to them, it saves hassling over small money deposits and guarantees fast cleani ng of room.

Im.not happy but whatcha gonna do

Fyi - about 90 flats in our bldg.

  16. I realize much of this is tongue in cheek but the crux of it is not. I think the op a bit of a dolt himself.

First, by his definition it would appear that the only good expatriate, is a working expatriate. This follows much the jello thinking of the "retiree brigade". Namely, if you dont have xxxxxxxx net worth, please leave Monaco errrr....Thailand immediately. In fact, just go kill yourself. Ironically, he then goes to name a bunch of dirty industries and think salaried jobs are just tits.

While I will not argue with your assessment of guys up in the NE, I have met so few. I do enjoy reading the farming forum and that lot seems to be quite a hardworking bunch.

I'd say that Bangkok and Phuket have the most monied expats. Perhaps Phuket. Possibly with that, the most educated expat (retirees mostly).

I will say, your geographic understand of Thailand in a real and political sense is horrible.

Finally, why is it that a "quality" expat has to be a working expat? There is so much classism that comes from tjis board and ironically, most of you are working stiffs.

Thailand attracts men that are interested in sex and pub grub.

Quality people can be found anywhere, but I suggest you engage in activities where you will come across them. If you are looking around in a bar at 11pm on a Tuesday night in Pattaya for a stimulating conversation, you're gonna have a bad time.

Why do "quality" people need to fit into your box anyway? I'd be super curious to see the TV list of what makes a person of "quality". Since money number one, would seem a grubby oil worker and high school dropout worth 1m more worthy than retired school teacher on.a pension.

If you are at such a loss to meet "quality" people, great idea here GO HOME.

Oh, and why did you leave in the first place? Oh yeah, cheap available sex and low cost of living. A magnet of quality.
