  1. It is not just a Bangkok problem, it is a National problem, which should have been addressed by the Government years ago. Sorry to say, but yet another one of their many failures! It would appear that expenditure on military hardware takes priority over the safety of both their citizens and tourists.
  2. Not quite. Thailand is a complete Autocracy with a Prime Minister who thinks all he has to do is issue orders and that everyone should obey. I think he will find out different on the next election and that the Country will finally be able to move towards a true democracy.
  3. Why does Asia Now have more 'nay sayers" who clearly are totally uninformed than one would expect on a normal forum. We have our own little resort on Samui and the activity of the booking platforms is absolutely buzzing! I suggest some of them would do well to take a more informed and balanced view before leaping on to their key boards!
  4. What a load of rubbish and I am neither confused or sad. Thailand is very well known for it's very low and poor health and safety record and does little to redress this situation. How many times have you passed a building site and the workers are not wearing helmets? How many cases have you read of people being electrocuted through incompetent wiring in either swimming pools or houses? How many cars/motor bikes have you seen join a main road without checking for oncoming traffic? I could go on ad infinitum, but I doubt that it would sink in to your rather pathetic preconceived logic.
  5. MP's of all colours are servants of the people and the people are entitled to answers regarding the Country's finances and is possibly one of the most important topics of a Government. Clearly the ruling party do not consider this to be the case, nor that they are serving on behalf of the people - so, so sad!
  6. "did not examine the deal carefully and approved it, and should therefore also be held accountable". Do you really expect the wider public to believe that statement? Pull the other one, it has bells on it!
  7. This is the issue with having a predominantly ex-military government who feel obliged to flex their power by dreaming up ridiculous laws. They should remember that if they approve a law that is an "ass" the population will laugh at the law makers (and ignore the law).
  8. Sadly this is the way of Thailand and starts from the very junior classes at School. Learn by rote and don't question what you are taught. The younger generation are beginning to rebel against this system, but the hi-sos are not so keen on people thinking and questioning issues for themselves. Sad really?
  9. My Grandson smoked this stuff on almost a daily basis and now suffers from bi-polar disorder as a result. Not only that, many do not know what the strength is of what they are ingesting. Be very careful folks!
  10. Airbnb has one of the worst booking platforms amongst the many others. They allow Guests to double book and then when you go on the website, you cannot contact Airbnb Management to find out what went wrong and then threaten you with a $50 dollar fine if THEY think the host has made an error. Also if you follow the cancellation instructions, you end up on a page that only allows you to adjust a booking and not cancel, contrary to what the website says. Pathetic!
  11. Not only that they bought a load of IED Detector Devices, which proved in the end to be a big scam! I think this statement needs to be thoroughly investigated for transparency. Personally I don't believe it.
  12. Been using it for 6 months now and works very well and quickly for me!
  13. Do the Government Departments ever speak to each other, or do they work in an autocratic way and may their own decisions and damn everyone else. Diesel fuel is one of the worst pollutant fuels on the planet, yet the Ministry of Finance feels that they should encourage people to use it, thereby damaging both the health and the environment of the Thai population. If anything, they should be increasing the price of diesel!
  14. I think that we should be excused paying UK Income tax instead of being denied an annual increase in pension. We don't use the UK roads, UK Police, Health Service etc, so should be exempt this charge!
  15. How do you do a screen shot of a mobile phone app, apart from taking a photo using another mobile phone?
  16. Slightly off topic. We have a small Resort and submit TM 30 for new Guests and submit it via the phone app. Once it is submitted, all the fields clear themselves in preparation of the next report and does not have a system whereby you can access what you have already submitted. Some of our Guests ask for a copy of the TM 30 and I have to tell them that we are unable to provide it to them as the poorly thought through website. Thailand the hub of IT!
  17. It has taken the Government this long to come up with a plan for the elderly, which is still unacceptable. They should have mobile clinics going out to the elderly population and vaccinating them in their own homes. Very poor and late planning.
  18. You sound like the person who always says the glass is half empty, which I find a little bit sad. I live on Koh Samui, about 200 meters from the sea, with predominantly a lovely sea breeze. The air is clean, we have no thumping music venues close by and I have a wonderful and very beautiful Thai Wife, whose only ambition in life is to make me happy and does really spoil me rotten. I know, I know, not everyone is so lucky. I developed a little Resort and gave it to her, but no, no she says it is really mine and if anything happened it would immediately return to me, so no money grabber! She is a superb cook, fantastic socially and speaks excellent English and my Family in UK have often told me....you are a very lucky Guy, and they are right and I know it. Her Family are also very self sufficient with a very large plantation growing a wide variety of produce. Yes, I get frustrated with the immature politics and self centered decisions, I also feel very sad about the awful road statistics, but since I cannot influence either issues, by and large I try to ignore them and continue living my very contented life with a lovely cross section of Thai Friends and Ex-pats.
  19. When I had my house built I ensured there was a retention fee, which was written in to the contract of construction. Not surprising, the end product was perfect.
  20. Welcome to the "hub of IT". This website failed to work in it's old mode and even now is less than user friendly - a bit like many Immigration Offices!
  21. So, BBC, Sky News, European News and French News are all wrong? You might like to get out a little more! Oh, I nearly forgot that Ukraine attacked Russian - right?
