  1. I put this in the pinned topic but got no response. My Immigration office (Chantaburi) is now not issuing a certificate of residence required for renewal of 5 year driving license. This will be my fourth one. Very helpful of them. As an Australian you can get zero from the Embassy. Can I get one from another office say Pattaya? An obscure reference on page ? of pinned topic says you can only get it from the office where you do 90 day report. I have no pink card or yellow book I am on a revolving retirement extension living with the wife.
  2. My 5 year license has expired. I live in Chantaburi and have used the Soi Dao DLT office for getting my license and 2 subsequent 5 year extensions. I went to ask them what the requirements were beforehand, and got a fairly cranky older woman (immediately thought, here I go), she listed off the doctor's certificate, photocopies of passport and visa, watch the video and a residence certificate. At this point she said I would have to go to Immigration in Chantaburi city as per normal, OR if they wouldn't provide it I would have to go to the Australian Embassy at which point my ears twitched. Anyway without checking the Embassy website I went and asked Chantaburi Immigration (who have previously issued this to me), and spoke to two men there who both claimed that due to "orders" they were no longer issuing it, and I would have to go to Embassy Bangkok. It wasn't clear to me whether the new boss he was referring to was the provincial boss or higher. I could see it was no point arguing so left without a fuss. Of course the Embassy clearly specifies they have nothing to do with it. Where to from here, I reside at my wife's address and am not on tabien baan etc. Can you renew your license in another province, it wouldn't be my first choice due to it being a hassle but I suppose I could do Rayong or Pattaya easy enough
  3. The right want to murder the vulnerable so they can make a few bucks, the left want to save us all with their vast confidence that only they know best. Where is the truth? Nowhere but navigating your own path is tricky as they will both try to stop you.
  4. It's not only here, story the other day of hundreds of millions owing in my home state of Qld Australia. The late fee applied is 80 (abt 2kbaht) and if you seek to pay the fine off you have to provide copious amounts of information to them. If you are really poor you can pick up litter and work it off at 25$A per hour. Of course in providing all that information to them they can use it subsequently to impound your license or car or even garnish your bank account. Best off providing nothing, give them the run around and eventually pay it. I for one consider the rationale trotted out about saving lives to be rubbish, police on the road will deter bad behaviour, sitting behind a screen will not. There is virtually no physical traffic enforcement now, only the nightly helicopter chases through the outer suburbs of stolen high end cars driven by gangs of methed up 14 year olds who get taken to KFC when they're caught given a good feed and sent home. Everything else is revenue raising.
  5. I’ve been away for a few months, arranged a long time ago to return on 28/6. I have the insurance and Thai pass. 2 questions should I print those documents out for either check in or on arrival (leaving Sydney on Thai) are the money changers with the better rates operating on the station level at the airport thanks
