  1. I would wait and see if you can switch to English when the matches start, if no English is available will it really matter as most of the comments leave something to be desired anyway. I feel most of the commentators treat the audience like morons with no understanding of the game they are watching, back in England I nearly always had the sound down or off it was that bad.

I've installed CTH for the footie also, I've contacted them without any trouble it just took a while to get through and the girl I spoke to was most helpful.

I'm keeping my True service for the time being as they are showing La Liga and the Bundesliga mainly I suspect because they lost out to CTH.

  2. If you are legally married with a KR2 and Thai marriage cert' there would be no problem so I can only assume you are not legally married in which case you will need the help as previously stated of some local(s) (officials) but as you've only been there a short time I can understand it maybe difficult.

The local headman is the one to talk too and all your neighbours will know where he lives.

  3. Until a couple of years ago (in my experience) you could get a license just by slipping a THB or 2 to the people at the local transport office but like alot of things now in Thailand this has changed as they tighten up.

I had to have a photo, medical cert' and proof of address which I obtained by getting a yellow house book as well as my UK driving license and the wife's ID card and blue house book.

The yellow book is useful as it shows that you have been through some local official process confirming that is your address in Thailand, usually you need the village headman to sign the appilcation or some other local govt' officiai who can vouch for you.

  4. No, I've done this before and the combination of flight and hotel seems to get you a better deal.

Often it is the hotel which is cheaper, e.g. I looked a flight BKK-LON-BKK and was quoted around 34000 THB but If I included a hotel for 7 nights the price was 50000 THB, try getting a 3-4 star hotel in central London for a week for 16000 THB ...

  5. no conclusion has been reached about the sale of rice from government stockpiles in government-to-government deals

That's quite a step backwards, from all those claims made starting last year, that deals had been done and would be proceeding with delivery by the end of this year, isn't it ? blink.png

What went wrong ? Have those deals been moved to an inactive-position, or were they merely 'white lies', by the government ? wink.png

What's gone wrong is that the Govt is buying at above free market rates and then trying to sell at above market rates when other countries e'g India and Vietnam are selling at market rates well below what Thailand wants to sell at to aviod losing even more money.

  6. No you can not - you submit paperwork to Hong Kong and they order from the UK for shipment direct to you here. Takes about 3 week in all so be sure to have enough time on current entry. Full information is on UK web site (Google - or use link from Embassy web site). You being in Thailand are exempt from sending current passport as required to have at all times so just copies are sent.

Follow the step-by-step guide at https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

Be warned, however, obtaining acceptable photos for new UK passports in Thailand is, in my experience, an uphill struggle. The overwhelming majority of professional photographers here insist on taking mug shots against blue or white backgrounds which are definite no-noes as far as HMPO are concerned.

Also be warned the last time a friend of mine did this he was told by HGK that they can only accept payment by using a credit card and he only uses debit cards so he had to get his brother in the UK to pay on his behalf. It may have changed since but best to check it out if you don't have a CC.

  7. You have to watch it. Check with your bank back home. That is where they get you. I have two accounts in the states. Both debit cards. No daily limit withdrawals.

My limit comes into place when I use an ATM only. I use a Credit union in America that charges me nothing. No % for using the card overseas. But you have to check around. My Visa card has a 3% fee when using over seas. I never use it.. LOL

The main thing is check and find a bank in your home country that does not charge for international use. I bought an old pickup here and got 450,000 from my debit card no problem. Also I was informed by the bank I use that all debit card transactions are made as cash advance? I had problems in the states with this. My credit union made a special rule in my case for the advances. Strange how banks are different. I really do not understand it. But the main thing is check around it PAYS big time in the long run.

    garyk,

What do you really mean by a "cash advance" on a "debit" card? When I hear cash advance related to a "credit: card where its heard most often it really means you are getting a loan from the card issuing credit card bank/company and that loan (cash advance) appears on your monthly credit card bill...and of course cash advances on credit cards comes with an initial withdrawal fee, high interest rate, and maybe even a foreign transaction fee.

So, when you say "cash advance" on a "debit" card are you talking about pulling money that you have available in your bank account or are you really talking a short term loan/getting money advanced from the bank you really don't have in your account? Actually this question is for anyone who uses the "cash advance" terminology in relation to their "debit" card. Thanks.

    Pib

You can only withdraw money from a debit card account if you have the funds (or agreed overdraft facility) actually in the account, a debit card is not a credit card and therefore the cash advance from a debit card is based on the amount of money you have in the accout at the time of the request.

  8. I think you need to change your ''expediter''.... if he/she was worth their salt they would have your 90 days in their diary based on your last report.

Why would you honestly need an expediter anyway? It only takes minutes to do the report.

Denmark state in rotten something is of the

    ***********************

Yes, my expeditor informed me Friday that the due date was next week - the day before I would leave Thailand for holiday. He is worth his weight in gold. since my expediter is based in BKK, I am trying to save him a trip. (I am out at Bowin) Why would anyone need an "expediter" you ask? Farangs that work here, usually work a full day. I do not have time to take off and go to the immigration authorities. If you are retired and do not work a 8-10 hour day, then you would have plentyh of time.

All the people I know who work here are given the time off by their employer to go and report to Immigration as it is a legal requirement of your stay and work here. Your employer must be one of the few who doesn't.

  9. Just inquired with Kasikoron bank and their Cash Advance limit over the counter is a princely 20,000 Baht per day. Anybody knows if other banks have higher limits?

I've had cash advances from Siam Commercial bank for upto 50,000 Baht before now but I haven't requested that amount for awhile so the rules might have changed. If you are a regular customer at your branch and use other services other than just obtaining money, insurance etc, then I find they are more than happy to let you use the cash advance facility.

  10. You will have to go to Amnat as this is the Imm' office for all farangs living in Roi Et Province.

Previously you would have had to travel to Mukdahan so be thankful for a slightly shorter trip although they did experiment with a session in Roi Et city itself for a short while but that was soon knocked on the head.

As mentioned already there is a Bangkok Bank at the main junction in Amnat with the 202 but I would definitely get a letter from your own branch and not any other, if you need a proof of income letter from your embassy, then some (e.g UK) can do this by post, see the website for details.

I always take extra copies, usually 3, of every piece of paperwork, although there is a photocopy facility in the main building at Amnat. Sometimes they will do it for you in the Imm' office if they are in a good mood.

  11. No it can not - for marriage it must be 400k in your name bank account 2 months or 40k per month income. But this is for one year extensions of stay from immigration - there is no requirement for a non immigrant O visa issue by a Consulate (although for multi entry some amount may be required).

Strange thing I noticed about this the other day when browsing the British Consul BKK web site. It states there that the proof of income letter must not be converted to Thai Baht therefore if your income is on the threshold of 40k then you are at the mercies of the current exchange rate I guess???

You are correct about being at the mercy of the Forex rate. Obviously the Embassy can only verify the documentation from your pension (or whatever) provider and the Imm' officer will do the calculation. I always ask the Embassy to quote the full gross amount of my pension before tax as this can be helpful if you are on the cusp.

  12. You just never know what immigration will say or do. I have been here on work visas, student visas, now marriage and they have always made it a complete nightmare. I prefer to get a multiple entry non-O marriage which is a breeze to obtain at the Jakarta consulate and once I have that, leave the country every three months. To hell with the arbitrary immigration and going into their swamp to attempt to get the extension for the year. It is just state terror done poorly and I say done poorly because they allow you the option to simply avoid the whole thing by getting a multiple and going through the simple, straightforward process of getting stamped in upon rentering the Kingdom. Tho' apparently some officials feel that approach is some kind of crime, I saw some post where the guy described going to the embassy in Kuala Lumpur and they asked him, " Why were you leaving the country every three months? Why didn't you get an extension? You can't do that!"

If you have a Non O marriage visa then you can get a 1 year extension my submitting the correct paperwork as detailed on the Thai Imm' website. I have been doing this for 5 years. It is your choice to leave every 3 months and not report to your nearest Imm' office every 90 days.

  13. Always take originals with you as they often want to see them although they don't keep them and don't forget get the marriage registration document as well as the marriage certificate.

They will keep 2 copies of everything including the proof of income original letter from your Embassy.

    Always have extra photo's too.

I usually take extra copies of each document just in case they are needed for some reason, its' Thailand you can never be sure.
