  1. Hi with all this Corona outbreak, Is compulsory/mantotory health insurance now required to renew my yearly retirement visa?

I have never needed it before. A few details:  renewal due mid June 2020 , my age will be 59, I live predomenantly in Pattaya. I am in Pattaya now btw. Last time I went back to UK using Multiple Re-entry was July 2019 for 3 weeks.

I use Jomtien immigration, and do papers myself  (ie no agent). Previously I just required: Passport, updated bank book, 800k+ in bank 2 months prior, bank letter, photos, application form, house book.

I am condo owner 6 years already. Condo is farrang ownership . No TM30 ever needed .My main question is purely one about health compulsory insurance . Is any health insurance for me now required, yes or no? If yes can someone elaborate.   Any other issues I may encounter to? Are prices unchanged as of my last visa (June 2019)?.. Thanks.

  2. If flight is cancelled, dont opt for vouchers/ rebooking. Dont waste time /money phoning/ emailing the  airline or agents.

Do one thing and one thing only, contact the credit card company or Paypal assuming you paid via this method. Open a claim/ request a refund... end of. Get the money back first through them. Re-book at your own leisure in the future.

  3. Another way to test if has compression or no compression is remove all the plugs then get someone to crank engine whist you stick your finger or thumb ( If accessible) in the top of the plug holes one at a time. If no comp you will feel big difference between the 2 good and 2 bad cylinders easily . Mind the plug leads etc for electric shocks etc.

I assume you've tried all new plugs and rested the body of plug on outside of head to earth it and cranked the engine already ? Easy test ...do it at night to see spark or no spark. Cleaning an oiled up plug often isn't sufficient to get it sparking again btw.

  4. Hi, as it is 2 adjacent cylinders sounds like head gasket gone ( Often burnt/eroded away on the land between the 2). Comp test would confirm. Previous continuous detonation (Pre-ignition) is a favourite cause. Top speed runs, ie high load with long duration  combined with low octane fuel or over advanced ignition is a common cause of this. Applys to a high percentage of car or bike engines. 9/10 people  can never hear the warning ' crackle  or  tank tank' sounds.

  5. OK thanks Jacko . Between us both we've recently completed the 'Set of 3' at Jomtien.

ie I've just last week got a new retirement Visa and a new multiple re-entry. You've just done a 90 day report... all successfully.

My 90 day report (based on 90 days re entry, not the white slip date in back of passport) comes next month.

ps I don't question who is responsible to report a stay in hotel, but rather if a hotel reports it ( Do they?)..is it flagged on  Imm system next time we do 90 day report or new retirement visa etc? ( and get fined)

  6. Well I've never done a TM30 yet and never fined been yet. But a couple of questions, if here on retirement visa and use Jomtien Imm, do you (now) require to report to immigration within 24/72 hour  if pop back to UK for a couple of weeks?....Never did before. Next visit to Imm would for me be 90 days after re-entry, as the 90 day report date is re-set.

Also if I stay in a hotel 2 nights does the hotel relay that info to immigration and gets  flagged next time you go to immigration? .....Even if the farrang didn't tell Imm anything? ( ie No reporting address change of stay in  hotel for 2 nights, and no TM30 etc).

ps I am condo owner of 6 years. Never moved. Occasional couple of nights in a hotel. That's all.

  7. Granted but meeting the requirements for your next extension is equally important if planning staying more than just the one year. If I hadn't been told and didn't comply I for one would be pretty p'd off at the next application.

So is there any requirement for anything other than 800k / 2 month before with an Ext renewal?

If not how about a fine for dipping below the 800/400k at some point during the previous year?

If neither I agree just forget it all.

  8. Ok a brief summary of requirements so far as I see it from this thread+police notice :-

    1) Police report of Jan 2019 says you must have 800k in bank for 3 months after visa granted, and 400k after that (So another 7 months, then back up to 800k for 2 months prior to your next application).

    2) Jomtien Imm tell us we have to come back again at the 3 month point to check bank book meets requirements. No need to come back again after that apparently ...BUT

    3) If funds fell below 800k at that time or below 400k from month 3 to month 10, even though you topped it back up to 800k in prep for next years Visa...u may have a problem getting it irrespective of whether you went back at the 3 month point before.

    4) Some other Imm offices dont require the 3 month check but the ' throughout the previous years balance requirements' are still needed and may effect next years visa. At least Jomtien are giving more warning by stressing the point in their own style (ie come back in 3 months).

    5) Visa agents don't require all this? But maybe when applicant applies again next year Visa might be denied because of lack of funds throughout previous year?

  9. Hi so all went OK with retirement visa renewal today. I didn't need bank book update OR bankletter to be same day as application btw. ( Kaisikorn bank told me wrong).   BUT although I will pick up passport tomorrow there is a new requirement now (OK maybe not that new, but new to me) in that I have to come back to immigration in 3 months (8th Sept) with updated bank book AGAIN.

It looks like I have to keep 800k in bank 2 months prior to apply (I thought was 3) AND 3 Months after to. Not a problem for me but just the inconvenience. Whats the time limit (if any) either side of the date for visit to Jomtien Imm? Whats the time limit (if any) either side of the date for book update? Whats the reason for this new red tape, to stop visa companies assisting with the financial requirements then taking their loaned 800k back out after got visa? or something else.

  10. Hi guys, just a simple question. I want to know what is max time window allowed from getting bank letter+updated book to applying for retirement visa. I'm specifically interested in Jomtien Immigration and their most current policy. Last year they allowed me 2 days. BUT when I went to Kaisikorn today , they told me visa application must be same day  as letter! I ignored them and got letter today anyway and will go to Jomtien tommorow. If 100 baht wasted so be it. Has anyone done similar at Jomtien say in last 2 weeks? Were you allowed 0 days or 1-2 days...thanks

  11. Do you have an existing SIM that was registered before the 1st of February?

If you do, just top up at least 321 baht tap in *777*7153# and then the dial button for 1 Mbps unlimited or top up 535 baht and then *777*7159# for 4 Mbps

If you are staying longer than two months, then think about a six month package. 1 Mbps for six months is 642 baht inclusive.

Well Knee Deeps post on THIS thread states is 535 baht(See above). I don't doubt the price increase so thanks for that (Rhodie) and would explain why 610 baht top wasn't enough to buy it. Posts which keep telling people to 'keep up, or already said to you before' blah blah don't help and are patronising.

KneeDeeps posts though are very helpful and informative  on the whole so thanks to him .

  12. My gf has just 5 min ago tried Knee Deeps suggested Unlimited 30 day 4mbps AIS package of *777*7159# package for 535 Bt. Doesn't work for us...sms 'says not enough credit' but phone has 610Bt. Sim is 5 years old btw.  She had a different 30 day package  put in phone by man in AIS shop last month. Could he have done something to block old unlimited data packages ? Any ideas?

  13. Aerox 155...Can someone just confirm the following..

    1) What has the R version got that the std version has not?

    2) Are there any new for 2019 updates/improvements/new trims/colours that are available now? or are they all the same from release until now...thanks

  14. .I think he means fills up so much on the buffet salad bar that he's too full to eat the main course so takes it home.

2 people always costs me 1400 baht.....I must learn to be more keeneow haha, but I agree Mc Donalds is a no no.

  15. I am/was quite a fan of Sizzler and go quite a  lot, I'm also not bothered by the price but we do like a quality tasty meal . I dislike restaurants that give huge portions..quality over quantity wins for me.  I certainly wouldn't consider sharing a main course with the GF just to save money or just ordering salad bar only...but that's just me . Here are a few things of note though:-

If you're talking beef steak Santa Fe is like tough old leather boots in comparison...once only ..never again.

Sizzler changed its menu 6+ months or so ago. Steak now comes on plank of wood instead of plate.(ok so far) My favorite Australian steak has done away with the std sweetcorn, peppers & lettuce garnish  and replaced it with greasy onion rings. More of a problem as mentioned is the new seasoning. Yes it tastes saltier/more msg/ flavour enhancer etc ...not so good.Even the once delicious Peppercorn Sauce tastes  full of the same. I do remember reading (About 1 year + ago) all about Sizzler saying it doesnt use any artificial this and that.. blah blah...hhmm not so sure now. Salad bar is delicious but location makes a huge difference to staff service & food quality. eg Royal Garden is not a patch on Central Festival in every way. Even a Med- Well done steak comes 100% Red ( On one occasion),  and staff forget to bring you TWO sauces , bring water instead of beer and so on.

Fish.... yes I see they've done away with the Norwegian Cod and replaced it with a cheaper to buy alternative..it has been noted.

In a nutshell ..Wake up Sizzler...We mostly go to the better Japanese restaurants now instead. In you're going to be relatively expensive , you need to remain good!
