  1. Hi guys , I am on 15 month retirement visa ( 7 months into it now) with  90 day reporting on the blue slip .  Slip says... ' Report address again 13 Dec'.  I also have a multiple re-entry stamp to .  I going UK 4th Dec and arrive back in Thai on 13th Dec .

Question is :-  Should I / Can I get my next 90 day stamp early around 2-3 Dec ? ie before I go. Or should I /Can I get it on the 13th Dec after I am back in Patts following a long flight in on the same day I arrive ?

In other words how much in advance of 90 day reporting are you able to get a new stamp ? ( Would about 11 days ) . And secondly are there any problems at airport if the 90 day 'report address again 13 Dec' is the actual same day that my flight arrives back in Thailand?

.. I guess not, but want to be sure as I  dont want visa wiped out ...thanks

  2. MisterPhil.....  I'm doing my best here to suppport and look after my son here all on my own , I have no one to help me 24 7 ( Yes realy).I have to run a small buisness including bring him to work to  As I have stated anything involving his mum isnt going to happen anytime soon . I am 56  and not in the best health but I dont give up thats why I come on here for help . The stress has seen me lose 14 kilo /30 LB in just 3 months.  Yes his mum is ******** ****. We are looking for a new one in Thailand. His mum moved out tried to get me in trouble with Police for something I didnt do .. in a Police Cell then in Hospital Blood pressure 235 !  Then Court order . All dropped . Then wants 2 million baht to come back home . Cut a long story short shes in Phuket with another English guy ( Nearly 3 months now) . But just before Xmas says she wants come see us and misses us .. I buy her plane ticket and book hotel for her THEN......doesnt turn up . No contact for 4 days then I find out shes been unwell ?? and went to Chiang Mai with this guy instead . This is the person  one example (of many ) I am dealing with . I dont want to talk about this anymore but answers to my last e-mail questions  much appreciated  . I just dont want to be going out of LOS for Visas on my own with 4 year old if there is another way . Yes 'overstay' stamps for son is stll a valid possibility for me....thanks everyone.

  3. Ok, so I need Non 0 ( (90 day visa that I can extend by 1 year at Jomtien later  based on retirement)

... So entering on tourist Visa this time, my Non O needs to be applied for either at Jomtien immigration ( For example) or at a Consulate or Embassy in another country but NOT from UK.... correct so far ?

... My sons Non O can only be applied for from outside Thailand only (from an Embassy or Consulate)  but in this case including from UK.

...His extension cannot be applied for until I have my Non O with the extra 12 month extension to... right ?

....Any extension will need a re-entry stamp to allow us to go back UK then back again  for 4 weeks in April. This can be be done same time as the Extensions are applied for.. right ?

... I could get all my Visa/ Extension/Re-entry stamp done this time in LOS.... and sort sons out from UK in April ...right?

.. Dont particularly want to go neighbouring Country to Thai it it can be avoided easily.

  4. Thanks for the help again Joe. Ok  I understand most of this . I will apply for my 90 Non immigrant Visa shortly after arriving in Jomtien  .  ..... Then go Thai consulate/embassy in Bkk to get sons Non Immigrant 90 Visa. Then go Jomtien again to get 12 month extension based on retirement for me (once 60 day 800k bank balance has elapsed).. and 12 month piggyback extension for him at the same time .

We will then need a stamp to allow us out ( Back to UK around 5 April) then back into Thailand 1 month later ? ( Around 5 May).....Is that it, are we all done and dusted then? Have I forgotten anything?  Do I need any papers ? Where does sons BC with apostille and stamped by thai embassy in UK come in ?.. sorry for being a complete numpty on this .

  5. My Progress :- Ok My sons UK B/C now has apostille from Milton Keynes & stamp from Thai Embassy in London. We both now have 60 day tourist visas ready for LOS start/mid  Feb . I also have 800K baht plus in my Thai account ticking away since 16 Jan for the 2 months retirement visa requiremnts.  I'm over 50 . After 16 March I will apply for my retirement visa from Jomtien Immigration. After that what do i need to do to get my UK born half Thai sons extension 'piggyback' so he can enter/leave officially as and when with me ? ...thanks.

  6. Just gets more and complex  Tourist Visa 60 day is not free it is £25 but I can do by post and is relatively easy . I live a long way from London etc so whatever I do I need to be able to do by post . I will get 60 day tourist visas by mail . Apply for my my retirement visa at Immigration in Jomtien  (money in my account is ok with me) whilst I am next  there . I will then come back to UK and apply for his extension from UK before I return LOS a further time . Is there a link or form for this ? Failing that I will just ignore all this nightmare for my son and just live with having overstay stamps in his passport.

  7. Lets stick with 60 day tourist visas this time. .its long enough for this stay. Should I apply for the retirement Visa once i get back to Uk in april ? Or should this be done once in Thailand again? The money wont have been in the bank 2 months until 18th March ..... That gives me about 2 weeks to get the retirement Visa sorted in Thailand before Im flying back to UK ... Im not sure if is enough time ?

Once I get the retirement Visa what do I need for my son  ? Just his UK Birth certicate' legalised ' and house papers ? What actually goes in his passport once is all done ?

  8. Thanks Joe. Not sure I need 90 days this time 60 is enough Applying for non O is confusing..it says if applicant over 50 must appy to embassy in London ...why?  and does this allow by post ? Yes I have uk marriage cert showing wife thai but nothing much.

Just going back to the retirement visa , can this be applied for/obtained whilst outside UK or must it be done whilst in LOS ?   Must get bored of all my questions..i try reading up but just opens more questions. On top of that Im looking after my 4 yr son 24 7 all on my own uk and thailand....thanks

  9. Ok I currently back in UK for a few weeks I have had my sons uk birth certificate lagalised at Milton Keynes and returned safely back to me . I shall send it to Thai Embassy in London for them to legalise it + 10 GBP cash . Do I need to include anything else?

Once I get that back I will apply for 60 day tourist visas ( again from UK) both for myself and my son. Is applying paying for both actually required ?

After the 60 days in Thai we will then come back UK in April . Before our next journey to Thai I will apply for my retirement visa from the UK. I have just popped 1m baht in my thai bank account to start the 2 month clock ticking requirement for this. Final question..... how/when do i then apply for the piggyback extension on my childs UK passport to enable both of us to stay in LOS for a year at a time? ..thanks in advance .

  10. As stated his mum will not help .. he did have thai passport and birth certificate as well.. but are long gone . I want to do everything as a british citizen ...not Thai if possible. Visa company said they can get his UK birth certificate stamped if I want to . but is it realy necessary ?

ELVIAJERO.. Are you saying once I"ve got my 1 year retirement visa ... I can do something else (Extension of stay)  for him that piggybacks mine very easily ? Excuse the ignorance ... what exactly is it and how do I go about it .

  11. Hi I am English, over 50 and will get retirement visa on my next trip to Thailand . My question here is regarding my son who lives exclusivly with me . His mum is Thai but has gone now 6 months ago very little contact and unwilling to help in any way . My son was born in UK has UK passport and UK birth certifificate. I am planning to send him to Satit school here in Pattaya next year . As I understood he needs education Visa .....but having spoke to Visa agents they tell me because he is only 4 he can come and go  with me from UK to Thailand ( and back again) as I wish with any length of stay without any problems at airports either end .. no return air tickets .. nothing ... just the automatic 30 day tourist visa we all get . I know is not technically right , but in practice ??

Question.... I would like to hear from anyone that has personally taken their small British born child in and out on a few occasions in this way and can confirm no problems . (or had problems). .. He is half Thai remmember .. but born in UK.  Just need a little confidance here before I do it ....thanks

  12. Hi guys, nice easy one for many of you but I can't find the answer easily so here goes.

I am British and I need to stay in Thailand 60 days as tourist. I have booked my air ticket already ( Heathrow to Bangkok Leaving UK mid Oct , return to UK mid Dec) .

Do I need to get the '30 day extension' to get my 60 day stay here in England before I go, or at Bkk airport on arrival?

Which is easier/cheaper. And how do I go about it ?

    ..Many thanks....Roland

  13. Hi guys, i will be coming to live in Thailand soon and will be buying a new 2013 spec Kawasaki ER-6N. Although I only have some knowledge of the various fuels available there ,I am an engine tuner of 25 years experience and would like to share with you some of what I know to be true and learn some more from you regarding best local fuel brands / price etc.

OCTANE/ PINKING It would appear from what Ive read that Thailand uses RON measurement standard therefore even 95 ( the highest) isn't that great compared to Europe octane levels. Although modern vehicles may state on the sticker that Minimum Ron 91 is ok , I would personally use 95 . The reason being under high load ( wide throttle opening , but not necessarily high rpm) combined with high ambient temps combined with 'who knows' how much carbon deposits in the engine, the engine could still 'pink' ( or 'ping' in US ) occassionally on 91 Ron. That will either result in the ecu retarding the timing and reducing power, or not retarding it enough which still reduces power and worse still eroding away at the head gasket and valves little by little . If you love your bike enough use the higher octane where possible. Datalogging the ignition timing may or may not show a more retarded ignition timing on 91 Ron where the knock sensor has backed off the timing...Best not to rely on or lean on the knock sensor unless you have to .

FUEL CONSUMPSION I've read that many people experience worse fuel consumpsion on Gasohol E10 ......Quite simply you will !

So whether the reduced price of Gasohol offsets this enough is debatable. My gut feeling is Benzine would work out cheaper in terms of 'miles per hundred baht' and in a hire car we had recently it was much worse . I have also read that some people believe that their ( modern) bike 'knows' its on Gasohol and adjusts accordingly. ...Well in a similar vane that the engine knows you're running low octane (pinks and then retards the spark), it also knows your running gasohol ( 91 or 95 gasohol) by feedback from the oxygen sensor in the exhaust . How ? The moment you swop from Benzine to Gasohol the Lambda or Oxygen sensor detects a leaner than normal mixture in the exhaust and automatically increases the fuel injector duration ( swirts in more fuel for a giving load) to compensate. This 'closed loop' is operational most of the time and even when not (eg at wide open throttle) it still puts in more fuel based on 'multiapplicative adaptation'.

SO WHAT ABOUT OLDER ENGINES WITHOUT OXYGEN SENSORS IN THE EXHAUST ,OR CARB ENGINES ?

These will definitly run leaner on Gasohol than Benzine. The difference between Gasohol E10 and Benzine of the same octane may be slight, but could result in any combination of higher combustion temps/lower power/lower fuel consumpsion ( as throttle wider open for a given cruise or accelation rate). or long term engine damage...On these engines unless you 'up jet' the carb IMO its not a good idea to run Gasohol.

To summarize I would use 95 Benzine in all 'loved' vehicles. Ethanol added increases the octane so 95 Benzine or 95 Gasohol have the same resistance to 'knock or pinking' BUT at the expense of fuel consumpsion on a modern vehicle with its closed loop injection, or running lean on an older vehicle.

    ..Best Regards Roland,

  14. Hi Guys, my thai fiancee is here in the UK with me now. We are marrying in UK in May this year. After that she apply for her 2 year FLR. My question is ,once she has the FLR ,can she go to France and Italy with me on holiday?

If so will she require a 'schnegen' visa, and if so does one schnegen visa cover more than one EU country or does she require individual ones for every country travelled through?. We would probably drive, so may include Switzerland on our journey aswell.

Many thanks in advance.......Roland & Kaew

  15. Hi, thanks for the info . Just going back to the A1 'listening/talking' test required for the 2 year extension after we get married. My fiancee's friend is telling her that she cannot take the test unles she has received a certificate from a school running a relevant course that she has attended. Apparantly ' friend of the friend' went to London to take the test only to find she wasnt allowed to take it as she didnt have this certificate. .....Is this right? ......roland.

  16. Hi, ok so we need to take and pass this A1 ? test to be able to get the 2 year extension. Where can we take the test? How much is it and how do we apply? Is there an online 'dummy' test we can take to establish if shes ready to take the test without taking a course.

TBH shes quite keen on studying further , but on the other hand I dont want to enrol in a course teaching her stuff she knows already.

ps we are in Poole Dorset. I see there are courses offered by Borough of Poole at the Oakdale Centre, but appear to be full already and I havn't a clue which one we should be looking at if any.

    Thanks again in advance... Roland.

  17. Hi, I have a query regarding the necessity / timing of this test too. My thai fiancee applied for her fiancee/settlement visa mid Nov 2010 ( ie before 29th Nov ), and received it mid Dec 2010. We are now in England and plan to marry May 2011. My question is does she HAVE to study and pass this 'A1' test. And if so must she pass it prior to the 6 months being up, or can she get the 2 year extension without it. Her English is (for a Thai) well above average btw.

    Thanks in advance ....Roland.
