  1. cant beleive people who live here, pay people to tax and insure a car, why not simply go and learn how to do it, its not rocket science. is there no feel to learn and understand how to do the basic things in life here with out handing over addtianl cash to do some thing a 12 year old could do.

Transport Office near Regents School on the 36/7 near Marbrachan

dont see where the OP asked about vehicle inspections so its just a trip to the land transport office

i have done it myself before, i learned from that experience, by doing so i found i had much better things to do with my time and now i pay someone else to go.......

    I agree with timekeeper here.

Why go all the way out to the Land transport office if you can pop round the corner and get it done for 50 Baht service charge? It has nothing to do with DIY, and more to do with convenience and maybe a lot less hassle with traffic.

    B) Agree

  2. i assume you mean buy a great Dane?

unless an individual is selling one then you can't as far as i know

i got my dogs from a kennel club registered breeder in An Thong

one of only two such breeders in Thailand

you will need to pay 30,000 upwards for a good dog

50,000 for a show quality dog and you better have deep pockets too for the vets bills

everything about this breed is big ............

Thank you for he reply. At 85 sometimes overlook spelling. Buy not but.:ermm:

Putting aside my previous comment (#3) I would seriously question why an 85 year old person would want to take on the care of a dog such as a Great Dane. I am a serious dog lover and keep 5 dogs all of which are cross poodles. Taking care of these 5 small animals is an armfull and I dread to think of the difficulties in taking care of a fully grown Great Dane. Having said that if this is your desire then good luck to you.

Thank you. I appreciate the helpful advice. Yes, a Great Dane does have a short life span. My previous Great Dane only lived 7 years. I have a large family in the village and they will help raise the great Dane and a vet in Prasat is not to far away. With proper car a dog should have a happy and long life. Years ago I had a Collie that lived 14 years. Of course, the climate in thailand acould be a factor for some dogs. :D

  4. when one looks at the the overview of the Pattaya forum at any time of the day or night , it always says :

Replying to News Flash -- Sunrise Taqueria Coming To Jomtien!

    Jingthing -10 minutes ago...............

    Flattery with get you everywhere.

if you are not getting paid for this with free food or money, you dam_n well ought to be.........

    B) The way he promotes ST he must have part of the action.B)

  5. Why divert from the topic of this thread, SUNRISE, the exciting, NEW Mexican restaurant in town with the most ambitious Mexican food menu by far in the history of the province?

That is your opinion and you are entitled to that. I highly disagree with your opinion.

:ermm: Join the club! One person promotes the restaurant, controls the thread, and likes to acriticize.B)

There's an old saying "If it sounds to good to be true, it's usually not."

Also keep in mind all the time when reading the local "press" for food reviews, they are not even ALLOWED to publish negative food reviews.

Keep in mind when reading this thread, that Sunrise Taqueria is a sponsor of Thai Visa. :whistling:

  6. If you just have to have a "Mexican fix" and can't make it to Bangkok to Monitas or T&S, then Sunrise is ok but I would not make a special trip to eat there otherwise.

Have you had a chance to try Diablo...a new place deep down Sukhumvit soi 22?

Yeah, the place near the Davis Hotel. It is a small place but the decor is pretty good, i.e., makes it look like an authentic Mexican restaurant. Although it isn't a chain like ST (which should stand for Sukhumvit Tacos given all of the outlets around these days ... there is another one in the new Terminal 21 mall at Asoke also)

I think this Diablo is associated with the one in CM but regardless you get more of a feeling at Diablo's that the food is made on the premises then you get at Sukhumvit Tacos and that the owner knows something about the cuisine. The cheese Quesadillas are great and the burritos tasty unlike the rather bland/mediocre fare at ST.

But it's great to have any Mexican food choice in Thailand these days. If you know just a little about Bangkok, e.g., how to get off Sukhumvit, you can find a lot better Mexican fare than ST, but then ST's market is probably more of the tourist that knows little about Mexican food and who thinks Slickman is a good source for news about Bangkok.

 Is ST a authentic Mexican Restaurant?

  7. :( Excuse me. I should said that I am sory I missed the time period for the taco promotion or is that complaining. I did have a burrito and drink and my guest the same. Thank you for the advice. You promote the restauarant, but never have eaten there?? Of course, you never complain about anything.B)

    Your info is rather dated.

BTW, you strongly implied that you will boycott Sunrise because you arrived and the promotion time hadn't started even though you arrived outside the hours of the promotion. To many, that would seem rather irrational. We only have what you write to go by. If you didn't like their food, price too high, etc. those kinds of reasons are obviously rational.

    BS

    you said --

ill wait for Diabio's to open in Pattaya.

  8. Gil is a great guy! He visits each table and cares. The Tacos on Friday were amazing. I ate 7 for 220++. i still left 40 baht to the server because the staff was very kind.

The fish taco was like being in Ensanada.

The beef tacos tasted soooooo good.

Salsa bar was very well done.

    B) After reading your post, I decided to try the taco promotion on Tuesday. Arrived at 11:30. Big disappointment. The promotion is only between 2 and 4 pm. It is a long drive from north pattaya. Will wait for Diabio's to open in Pattaya.

I think the promotion is between 2 and 7 pm Tuesdays and Fridays as shown on this menu:

    http://www.sunriseta...tuesdaymenu.pdf

You're blaming others for your own lack of effort to find out the specific details of this promotion? Whatever.

Also it's not as if the promotion is all that they offer. Why not true a yummy burrito?

I also welcome more Mexican restaurants to open in Pattaya. The more choices the better. For example from Bangkok La Monitas and Tacos and Salsa and Chiang Mai's Miguels. However, have not heard any of that is happening.

:( Excuse me. I should said that I am sory I missed the time period for the taco promotion or is that complaining. I did have a burrito and drink and my guest the same. Thank you for the advice. 10. I have been there a few times, as a friend helped the owner with the opening. The menu is limited, but the taste and portion sizes are excellent. A nice addition to the Bangkok Tex Mex selection

I agree. It does not get the press and attention that other places get but that is a good thing for BKK residents.

Let's keep this place to ourselves and let the others go to Sunset and Coyote's.

Joking somewhat but it is a dilemma, I.e., enough traffic to stay in business but not so much that JingThang thinks he has to comment about it.

:D Are the prices net or plusplus?

  11. Minus Minus with the plus plus noise. The owner gets it that it is very unpopular with customers. He has heard the claim that some won't go there because of it. The message is amply communicated. Do you really think 1000 more posts saying people don't like it is going to make it go away?

 Has anyone tried the mexican soup Menudo? My mexican friends in california every news years day would make a big pot of Menudo soup. Great for hangovers. Years ago a Campbell's soup had a version of Menudo called Pepper Pot. Tripe is not a problem in thailand, but Hominy might be. It is strange that the owner has not addressed the plus plus issue. Can anyone name one successful restaurant in pattaya/jomtien that has plus plus?:whistling:

  12.

I note the management are ignoring the question of ++ in a fast food joint?

With all due respect, we are not fast food. The amount of preparation that goes into each dish is staggering. I will extend an open invitation here today - if you are interested to see our prep kitchen on the 2nd flood, PM me and I will personally take you. For example, the corn is boiled, and then soaked for 10 hours before grinding, and pressing. Then, the tortillas are flash fried and warmed. The meat for the Birria soup is marinated for 18 hours. All of the sauces and salsas are made fresh each morning. How is this fast food? Agree. I would eat there if the staff got the plus.B)

Come see the operation, I think you'll enjoy the visit. The ++ is so that we can hire, train and maintain high service standards; many of the Thai places I visit seem to have zombies working for them, which is what we try to avoid. All of our branches strive to keep high service standards, although even I will admit more training is needed on our side.

    Best,

    Gil

That's all cool and I'm not complaining about this as it's your business decision. I totally see it isn't fast food. However, you'll have to realize many people are wondering if you want to pay your staff better, and it's clear that's justified, why not just raise the prices to the level where you feel you can? Plus plus (specifically the ten percent item called SERVICE CHARGE, we get you need to pay tax on such a large operation) makes people uncomfortable because they aren't told how the money is spent, and whether it is meant that the TIP is covered or not. I read service charge as you are telling us the tip is covered. As you know, this isn't the USA where people by custom tip 15 to 20 percent.

  13. :realangry:

Closed before 11pm tonight , so I missed it again, either your ready to open as advertised or not. I realize that they have only just opened, but they need to get it right first off, went to Shenanigans and had a great steak for B260 no ++

:o The hours to me are not important. The plus plus prevents me eaating at the resturant. When loaf pizza went to plus I now go to New york pizza.:realangry:

Where's your next stop when NY Pizza goes ++?

:D Delizza. I can't recall any resturant besides Sunrise that has plusplus.:ermm:

I dont like the mandatory tip.

I like them to earn it. When they do good work, I tip very well.

I agree 100% with you.

Places that charge a mandatory tip/service charge don't get my business. Especially in Thailand!

It was also mentioned that this place was a 'tad pricy'.

Already off to a bad start. I won't bother to check it out. I'm not whining. Their loss, not mine.

Sorry JT, food does not trump everything for me. The things I consider are price verses quality and service and I decide the tip!

Forced tip/service charge, means no business from me. Many times the staff doesn't receive these tips or they only receive a very small portion. That's why I pay the host/hostess directly for their service and not place it in a tip tray. The management should price their items appropriately and not hide it in a service charge. I'll vote with my feet and not give this place a chance to get one baht from me. As far as I'm concerned, they can just go out of business. I don't miss businesses like these! :bah:

I'll wait till there's some competition, right now there is none.

There are many other choices for good food. I've lived without a good Mexican Restaurant in Pattaya for over 10 years. I can wait longer. :whistling:

Thanks SurfRider for the heads up. :jap:

I often don't agree with JT's recommendations. You just saved me from being disappointed again.

    Agree

  16. .

Food looks great from the menu pics, but they're one of the minority of local restaurants that add 17% (+10% service + 7% VAT) to the check-bin.

That takes their 220 Baht Tacos to almost 260 Baht or almost US$3 per Taco! -- Sounds almost like U.S. prices - sure hope they're delicious . . . :D

    .

I hate that^ that has just killed it for a lot of people!

I know the manager is reading this thread and he should listen to the above. We f*kin hate that ++ business. Let us tip your excellent staff appropriately! jap.gif

I was looking forward to inviting my ex-pat friends for lunch, but the service and vat charge killed it for me. Even the hoels are droping the plus plus[hilton-montien]. Will wait for the next mexican resturant.

  17. Doesn't really surprise me as it has always seemed busy in the evening when I have been and we are just coming to high season.

:whistling: When I phoned the Montein hotel last week inquring about the buffel they told me 800bt and 900bt. Now in the Pattaya Mail they advertise 850bt and 995bt?? Confusing  Will phone again, but who knows

  18. :realangry: The Hilton Hotel lunch buffet is now 350bt. Diner buffet is 800bt and friday seafood is 900bt. The Montien Hotel is a better deal now. Friday seafood 900bt and Wednesday 800bt,but with prilvege card 10% discount.
  19. My buddha some of you blokes have got a pot to piss in if you think 300 baht is expensive. My lunch today was 1,200.

My challah, think you mean we DON'T have a pot to piss in.

Anyway, 1200 baht for lunch, sure, if it's WORTH it!

Still not clear on what the food is actually like on this 300 baht buffet. A noticeable lack of DETAIL in the reports. Guess I'll have to check it myself.

:rolleyes:The hilton is 5 star hotel. The Apex is a 1 star hotel. Which would have better food??B)

    I stand corrected

Lunch was a delight. Tandoori bbq fish, butter chicken, daal and keema naan washed down with Kingfisher beer.

I have eaten the buffet at the Hilton and for 300 baht it is fantastic...a wide range of quality food, salad, cheeses, international cuisine, desserts and good coffee

How does the 300 baht Hilton buffet compare to the Apex buffet that I last paid 180 baht for (it may have gone up recently)?
