  1. So myself and some friends want to go to a pop quiz again. We use to go to the one at Happy Days but the people in charge stopped doing it.

I know Green man also has a weekly quiz but we're looking for something more relaxed/easy/non-100% british questions :)

    Any ideas where to go?

Edit: topic should be "South" not Sound :D

  2. Theres a new gym behind homepro at the chalong circle. they have sauna also.

Its on the new "shortcut road" running from the back of the homepro parking lot to the big thai supermarket on patak road. across the mamee moo stand. not the old shortcut with the many bumps

  3. Sad story.

Recently in the middle of the night I had a car full of young thai guys pissed at me for a small mistake on my part going down a oneway street.

They rolled down the window and screamed something at me. Before I could say anything they pulled over about 20 meters in front me and were exiting the car. I decided it was probably better to get out of there so I turned around and went against the one-way traffic (it was like 4 am so otherwise empty street). I managed to go about 10 seconds before the police stopped me. That resulted in a 1000 baht "fine" for driving against traffic. I guess that was probably not the worst outcome afterall........ :)

  4. See the main dealer for your brand in Phuket Town. they are not expensive on labour, and can provide original parts. The Big C repair shops use mostly non original parts, and sometimes charge more.

Weird it was the other way around for me. the screen or screencard on my gfs laptop was broken and the dealer of the brand wanted 10k to fix it. Got it fixed in basement of BigC for 5k...

  5. Gym is back open today.. Looks better than before. The owner, Gip, has done a great job. The place is busy and everything is clean and new. I am a happy camper.

Yep it looks good. I think one of the threadmills is broken, but other than that everything good. they obv also honour the already paid memberfees.

  6. How can you tell if they have put me on a indy package? My bill states I'm in PREMIER 4meg. and thats what i'm paying for. All I know is that the internet service is bloody awful..I find the engineers nice kids but next to useless. Cheap labour I guess. I would like to know about the CAT internet.. if anyone has it can u send a reply before I jump out of the frying pan!

I had CAT adsl at my old house in Chalong and it worked perfectly but it is a bit expensive. I paid something like 2000baht/month for a 2mbit.

  7. Really ??

I know a lovely place.. 2 bed, uber private, pool, views, etc.. Was asking 65k a month without anyone taking it for more than a year (think it may have been 80 3+ years ago when I first saw it) now asking 30k.

Yeah it is possible to find a decent deal if you look hard enough. A month and a half ago I found a 4 bedroom house in Chalong with 4 bathrooms, big livingroom, 2 terasses/balconies, private pool (cleaning included) and big BBQ area around the pool. 35k shotterm and 32k a month for a 1 year lease.

  8. Just a quick update. On my way to the sandwich shop I dropped by Chalong gym and it looks like they're pretty busy cleaning it all up. There was a sign that said they will be back in one week so that's really good news.

  9. I have looked at the website for Naiharn gym...impressive facility. How does the Chalong Gym compare to Naiharn in terms of equipment: cardio machines? weight machines? locker/shower areas?

Which gym has more local ex-pat members?

Nai Harn gym is a pretty decent gym. It has a bit more stuff (both cardio and weight machines) than Chalong gym but lacks a bit in the free weights department.

Dumbells only up to 36kg where Chalong has 100lbs ones. The barbells dont weigh the standard 20kg's but are like 15kgs or something, but I guess that's not really a big deal since they seem to be the correct length and width.

Also there aren't that many plates and they are not really suited for stuff like deadlifts or olympic lifts. To be fair Nai harn gym does have both an incline and decline bench station which are nice to have.

The water is 2x as expensive (20 baht for a small water) in Nai Harn and they dont have a blender to make proper shakes.

As to which one has more expats I dont kknow since I've only been there 3 times now and it was about the same ammount of people that I'm use to in Chalong.

  10. Have you been back since Corey took off? All new machines, carpet, paint etc. Looks and smells nice now. (Pre-fire anyway) Unfortunalty it has the same staff so the early closings/late openings/friends of staff using equipment when you want to will probably continue. I hear they honored, at least partially, the long term memberships which were paid in advance just before Corey took off.

I never see the staff using the equipment? its almost all gays/katoys and all they do is check their makeup in the mirrors or whatever.

Except for the horrible music the gym is/was actually pretty good for the reasons you stated. They don't even mind I make a mess of gym chalk every time I go.

  11. Don's gym in Kata has a proper squat rack, bench, and decent ammount of plates. He wont mind if you do deadlifts and stuff either.

I believe dumbell selection is not too good though. Max is like 30 or 35kg iirc.

All this info is about 1 year old though, but I might have to start going there again now after Chalong gym burned down.

  12. I was just there at it was sealed off with no note or anything and I could only spot what looked like an exploded airconditioning unit at the door

Anyone know what happened and how bad it is?

I just paid for 3 months membership yesterday! :D:)

  13. There are brand new courts (3 of them) next to the TOT Office in Chalong opposite Chaofa Thanee

I believe the guy said its 240baht an hour. It is about 50meters down the road that connects the two chaofa roads (the one that Tiger Muaythai is on)

  14. its a massive housing complex between the two chaofa roads, about 1-2kms from the circle?

Big gated entrances on both chaofa west (before the gas station) and chaofa east (before Chalong gym)

fwiw I recently went there and drove around looking for for rent signs and there werent many. I guess most of the owners go through agencies but maybe you will have better luck.

  15. Dejanguum (sp), on Bangkok Road. The best Korean bbq place in town. It is in the Jee Teng complex, behind the Esso station. Avoid the other restaurants that cater to Korean tourists, as even my tour guide friends refuse to eat there!

There is another place, a bit hi-so, next to Thai Hua School (near the stadium, Central, etc). Never ate there but Korean expats love the place.

    Somtamnication, thanks for this one.

    Review:

It is in a street with no tourists, the food was authentic Korean, very reasonable priced.

BBQ comes with side dishes, great salad as appetizer, diffferent sauces.

For stews you pay 100-150 baht. No fish though, except the dried ones.

The owner is Korean. The interior is very basic and on a Thursday evening 10 people were eating. I ate so much, I couldn't get enough of it.

We also went to Korean Hut, along the road from Kamala to Patong.

Opinions differ, 2 out of 3 people thought the food was good, I agree but the taste was very 'adjusted'.

Meat looked good though. Kimchi was also ok. Seafood possible. No side dishes with BBQ, side dish Kimchi 80-90 baht, Rice 35 baht, BBQ around 500-600 baht (if I am correct)

On a Saturday evening we were the only guests.

The bill was almost double the bill of Dejanguum. Great seaview and the lettuce was fresher ;-). The restaurant is from a higher standard than Dejanguum, but frankly I didn't enjoy my dinner.

If you have energy, take a ride to Phuket town.

I was just there and if by 100-150 you mean 180baht for the stews you are correct, but I do agree the appetizer salad was very tasty and the BBQ also, although 500 baht worth of beef ribs didn't really fill me up

  16. What about renting a pickup truck for one day and doing your own move? Your inventory sounds like a afternoon job...

Last time I paid 3 thai guys 3500 baht total to do all the work and driving for me, but I have a feeling I mightve gotten ripped off (these were hired through a taxi driver........ :) )

  17. so im moving to a new house soon. Anyone know where to hire reliable people+truck to do the moving for me?

any idea how much it should be?

Its like 2 TVs, sofa, a bed, some chairs and tables, a fridge and some boxes with random small stuff.

Im only moving like 1km away

    Edit: its in Chalong
