  1. Without doubt the Best Western Food in Mukdahan is at Mukdahan Manor's, Song Fung Khong Restaurant where you can have Aussie Steak, NZ Lamb Chops, Seafood from the Ocean plus Cold Beer. It's Owned by an Aussie. The Picking Cowboy is OK if you don't smoke as you have to sit outside if you do. Not much in the way of Ladies in the place except maybe late on Weekends I have seen a few in there. The Kareoke Bars at Mukdahan Tower are also OK for a few drinks and sometimes a few westerners get down there. Check Out www.mukdahan-manor.com for a good place to have food and drinks and as the Hot Season is upon us you can sit in A. C. Comfort.

  2. Having Driven Rotary engined cars since 1972 and raced many of them in Oz i cannot understand why you would want smaller tyres on the front. RX8's do not hang the back out like an RX7 does so why bigger tyres on the back. My advise is to keep it uniform and buy the best handleing tyres with the most grip, especially for the wet conditions you encounter in Thailand. Grip is essential, Not width. I have driven both RX7's and 8's in Oz for around 200,000 K's and would prefer the RX7 anyday of the week.

  3. There is a Turkey Farm in the middle of Mukdahan City. You can Order what you want at Pornpet Market where the lady who sells Duck and Chicken at the Southern end of the Market will take care of you. They Own the Farm. We obtained one from her for a 30 person party on Xmas Day and by all reports from the Guests it was very good. The Waterfront-Song Fung Khong Restaurant which is 2kl south of the Indo China Market on the Banks of the Mekong River can usually source and supply most things, Goose, Duck, Turkey, whatever, and prepare and cook it along with all the Trimmings. This Restaurant has been Awarded the Best Restaurant Award by the Governor of Mukdahan for the past 4 years and is the Major Western Food Restaurant in Mukdahan. We have Aussie Steaks, New Zealand Lamb, Norweigan Salmon and a good selection of Seafood all from the Ocean, not the Mekong River.

  4. What's the point in having Traffic Lights. In Mukdahan nobody stops at most of the lights and that includes the Police. They drive as they park, anywhere anytime. I have tried to have Road Rule Education included in Schools and even the Top Cops here agreed with me that you would have to Educate the Police first so they could then educate the schools.

  5. Finally had a Test Drive yesterday in Mukdahan, 4x4 GT. The engine is much quiter than in previous models and the 8 speed gearbox is sweet with very quick changes, not draged out like the old model. The ride also seemed better than my 3.2GT but it has now done 175,000 K's so that is to be expected. The Performance was very good both in Auto and driving Manually, good fast changes that took it to 160K's easy in 6th gear and I think it would do 200 K's in Top gear, no problem. Definitely quicker than my 3,2 in acceleration and very quiet which means it is much much quieter than the outgoing 2.5 Lt which was much noisier than the 3.2. As the test drive was only short, maybe 10 K's in did not get the time or opportunity to test much else or the 4 wheel drive control but the brakes were certainly much improved also. If I get a chance to give it a full on test later this week I will post the remainder of my opinion along with some times, 0 to 100 and so on to compare it with my 3.2's times both standard and Chipped. All in All, I liked it and the front seats have much better support also.

  6. Just to let people know I found a doctor (cant remember his name) at the skin (Dermitoligy) centre on the 2nd floor at the Khon Khan Ram Hospital. He seemed knowledgeable and took a biopsy, with the consiltation cost 6300 baht.

But does the person who examines the Biopsy know what they are looking at, that is the main problem. The Doctor who takes the Biopsy only goes by the report that he gets back from the lab. They don't seem to know a great deal about Skin Cancer unless they have studied it overseas.

  7. Hi many thanks for your reply, could you tell me where Tops supermarket is.

    Thanks for your help

    Pete

In ROBINSONS Shopping complex right at the back on the ground floor. Drive past Tesco and Big C about 1 kl on the left.

  8. Forget KK, I tried that 3 years ago and was told by 2 Hospitals to go to Bangkok. Since then I have found a Doctor at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital who studied Skin Cancer in Australia for 2 years. Her Name is Sureeporn Sritangrattanakul and you can make an appointment via their website. The cost may be around 2,000 Baht depending on what medical procedure is required. She has been treating me every 6 months for the past 3 years and I am very satisfied with the results. Email : [email protected] Good Luck.

  9. My family has used Muk Inter a few times over the years.

Always as out-patients, so I can't give you a heads up re surgery,

but we have always been well cared for, never over charged

and well impressed with the doctors and nurses.

Good luck to you wherever you choose.

    Thanks for your earlier response.

Apologies for the omission --- I was referring to knee surgery or possible replacement.

Knee Surgery, I don't think so but I will check for you and get their recommendation and reply in a day or two.

Thanks for that; I'll hang fire before making the 200km round trip

OK, I checked with the Doctors at Muk Inter and within 30 seconds I got the Usual Answer, " Go to Bangkok". But if I were you I would check with Bangkok Hospital IN Khon Kaen which is fairly new. You could look on the Bangkok Hospital Website and Check their List of Hospitals and go through them to see which one offers this type of Operation. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital could be a good chance, I go there every 6 Months for my Skin Cancer Treatment and a Full Body Check for this from a Lady Doctor who Studied this in Queensland, Australia and I have been very satisfied with the Results over the past 3 years and it may be cheaper than the Bangkok Area Hospitals plus it is definitely cheaper for anyone who may be travelling down with you when you have the operation to stay nearby. Good Luck with your search, Don.

  11. You havn't stated what type of Surgery you require so it is very difficult to answer your question. I have had 2 surgeries there over the past 8 years and have survived both but I do not stay in the hospital more than 1 night after surgery, I go home. I know Dr Hahn and all the Doctors there personally as well as the Hospital Management so if you let me know what your problem is I can check and advise you on the matter.

  12. I have lived in Mukdahan for 11 years now and my house is one of Finest and Largest on the Banks of the Mekong River. When i was building it people said that the Lao's would come over the river and rob me by boat. How much could they take by boat, I said. Anyway in 11 years I havn't even had 1 Light Bulb taken from outside the front fence and no attempted break ins of any type. I do have 5 small dogs who protect the property night and day. At night 2 stay outside and 3 inside but I could count on one hand the times they have woke us up at night barking. I guess it depends on the area that you choose to live in and obviously mine is very safe with good Thai's living nearby. I had an English friend who lived about 80 Kl from me who even had an Electrified fence running around the top of his perimeter Walls and still had problems, so it shows that you must pick the area carefully before you build.

  13. I've now spent 2 whole days driving the Everest - the more you drive it, the more you appreciate the effort that's been put into it - it's not just a generation ahead of the last, it's a quantum leap forward.

This is an astonishingly good car for this price point, and will change a lot of people's perceptions of what's possible in this segment.

Just don't look at the carpet tongue.png

I test drove the 2,2 Lt version yesterday and was surprised at how Quiet it was but it ran out of Puff at about 3,400 RPM,. Up to that it had good acceleration I thought. The Vehicle felt a bit top heavy and not as sure footed on the road as my 3.2 PJS but it was only a short test drive as is the norm here, I would need a decent test drive of the 3.2 Lt when they get one in Mukdahan to really put it through it's paces. Before I purchased my PJS 3.2 I was taken to Khon Kean by the sales staff at Mitsu and test drove the car from KK to Mukdahan, 260 K's to put it through it's paces, that was a worthwhile test drive which convinced me to buy it. On the Everest I also didn't like the Small Digital Taco on the instrument panel and some of the Dash board to me looked quite cheap material wise. I pictured changing it to a Wood Grain appearance in quite a few areas when the after market guys get their act together. I wanted to test the New PJS also but Mukdahan Mitsu don't have one yet and on the Mitsu website where they have a Road Show Program listed, Mukdahan doesn't even get a look in, the nearest is Yasothon from 1 September so I guess it will be a while before I get to Test Drive the New PJS and 3.2 Lt Everest. If it does happen eventually I will give you all my thoughts on Both Models.

  14. Thanks a lot to both of you DJH77 and streamer for your helpful input.

The Bumrungrad's Dermatology Center in Bangkok has been highly recommended to me in the meantime too.

    Cheers!

Almost 3 years ago I had a Malanoma on my back which had to be removed. Bumrungrad Hospital Quoted me 400,000 Baht with a 5 day stay in Hospital. I said NO, it only takes about 30 minutes. Cut it out and stitch me up and off I go, I don't have to stay in Hospital but they wouldn't listen so I got on the plane back to Oz and had it done. Plane fare, 30,000 Baht, Procedure 15,000 Baht. This was before I found the Doctor at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. So Bumrungrad can probable do it but no way was I going to pay what they wanted. Keep that in Mind.

  15. Hi Gary, Welcome to Mukdahan. For good Aussie or Thai steak go to Mukdahan Manor which has The Waterfront - Song Fung Khong Restaurant owned by me, Don, I am an Aussie. Always ice cold beer available and Cocktails also. The best stocked Bar in Mukdahan. It's situated on the Mekong River about 2.5 kl south of the Indo China Markets. Soi Anurakbumroong 1 off Samlanchai-Khong Tai Rd. 042 632577.

  16. Hi Mate, I spent a long time trying to find a reliable Skin Cancer Doctor in the North East and never found one, and I tried many. A couple of years ago I found a Lady Doctor at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital who spent 2 years in Queensland Australia studying Skin Cancer and she is very god. In fact I only returned a few days ago from having my 6 monthly Check up with her where she removed about 50 from my arms and hands with Liquid Nitrogen. Her Name is Sureeporn Sritangrattanakul. If you log on to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital site and go to the Dermatology Section you can find her and make an Appointment via the Site. My visit last week cost 2,600 Baht for the check up and Removal. I can Highly Recommend Her. Good Luck.
