  1. I am very sorry to read of all your problems and i have seen flooding within a 50 kl radius of Mukdahan with golf courses that are now lakes and rivers. What i can't figure is that the Mekong River here is quite low. I can stand in my back yard and look down at the mud flat river bank and the river is still dropping. It is a good 12 to 15 metres lower than i have seen it in past years when there was not this amount of rain, very strange. So Mukdahan is high and dry. I hope you all get through it without to much damage to your properties and houses.all the best.

  2. They can keep any Ford here unreleased untill the learn how Customer Service Works. Perhaps some time spent studying Toyota and Honda MIGHT HELP. Dont give Me they all right where i am,Nationwide they are Crap.hit-the-fan.gif

If you were a mechanic technician, and had the choice of working for the rapidly expanding, market leading Toyota dealership network, or Ford, what would you choose?

It's not the technicians fault that Ford Dealerships are crap, it's the Owners - Big Bosses who are idiots. 4 Years ago i drove 120 kl with an appointment to Test drive a Focus TDCI in Sakon Nakhon. When i arrived they told me i had only 5 minutes as the Boss was taking the car to the airport, what a joke. Then last week i had Ford in Ubon call me after i had contacted Bangkok asking for a Test drive of a Focus 2lt - 5 door Sport plus. I made an appointment for the next day and drove 160kl to the showroom. When i arrived they asked me to wait a few minutes while they prepared the car, so after about 15 minutes the salesman, who spoke english came out with all his paperwork and started giving me his big spiel. I told him i didn't need any of that, i had reserched all about the car and wanted to testdrive it. He said, Sorry my Big Boss has taken the car out, we no have car for you to test drive today, you can come back tomorrow. I told them to ring the big boss and have him bring the car back but of course they wouldn't do that so i had to drive 160kl back home, all for nothing. They, Ford Dealers, are the biggest problem for Ford in my opinion and i am resigned to the fact that i am never destined to own a Ford in Thailand, maybe that is what was meant to be.

  3. If you go over the bridge at Mukdahan there is an office on the left, small door, just passed the Immigration box where you get your passport stamped and the 2nd box where they do the paperwork for your car. The cost is 200 baht i think for 1 week or 1,000 baht for 1 year. But if you have never taken your car across before don't forget you must have a Car Passport that can be obtained at your local Motor Transport Department, where you pay for your Registration and License. The car cannot be under Finance to go over to Laos and the first time you must present the car book as well as the car passport for proof to Customs on the Thai side so all the relevant information can be recorded on their computer.Have all your paperwork to do with the car with you as you never know what customs will ask for. This is now strickly policed as many cars have been been left at the Casino by Thai's who have borrowed money against them there to gambly and lost so they just leave the car and if they don't go back and pay to reclaim the car, then the reposession agents have diffulty getting the car back to Thailand as it should not have been allowed to go over in the first place. Good Luck.

  4. Thanks for that. No, my girlfriend has acne and we were looking to try and find a dermatologist to try and find the route of the problem.

Apparently kohn kaen university hospital has one, any views on this place or further suggestions would be appreciated.

    Regards

I went to K K hospital to see a dermo that was recommended to me for my Melamoma and asked him straight, "Are you the man for this" His answer was NO, you have to see this doctor, he's not here today, come back Sunday. I went home, 250kl, and returned on the Sunday and saw this Doctor who turned out to be a Plastic Surgeon. I also asked him straight, "Can you do this or should i go to Bangkok", His reply, "Go to Bangkok," At least he didn't charge me as the previous guy did even though he knew nothing. That's why i finished up going back to Oz as the Bangkok Quotes were rediculous. And i had driven 1,000 Kl in total for nothing. Acne is a common thing and you may find a doctor - Dermo who is knowledgeable and can help you but i would also suggest that you look at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital Site and go through the Doctors Credentials which are shown for each doctor in their Dermotology Department and see what you find as to where they studied etc. Good Luck.

  5. If you are looking for a Dermo who can check for SKIN CANCER - Melanoma etc, I suggest you go to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital Dermo Centre. Early this year i had to have a Melanoma removed from my back and the prices quoted here were upto 200,000 baht which was a joke. I flew back to Australia to have it done, total cost including airfare was 60,000 baht. While in Oz i found a Woman Doctor who had spent 2 years at Queensland University studying Skin Cancer so on my return i went straight to Pattaya to check her out and she came up trumps. I have since been back for my 6 Monthly check up and she appears to know what she is doing and found no more cancers anywhere on me. I am fairly confident about her report as i told her, "Don't forget,My life is in your hands" and she took this the right way, unlike many other Thai Doctors i have seen here while trying to find the right person. If you want any furthur Info - Name etc, PM me.

  6. Would like to ask a couple of questions, will be driving to bridge and i know you can park car just before on the lefthand side:

1 is there a taxi service to go accross the bridge(boarder) from thai side to go to Embassy if so where or is there a bus again where, NOT Casino

2 any good hotels phone number or web address

You can park your car at the Bridge carpark and take the Bus across to Savannakhett. As for hotels , Have a look at Tripadvisor, Booking.com or Agoda. Some Hotels are under Mukdahan. If you want to stay in Mukdahan, the Mukdahan Manor is the best. www.mukdahan-manor.com

  7. I bought my first Rotary in October 1971, an Orange RX2 Coupe with Sunroof, Cost A$ 3333.00. I started racing it in 1972 in club events with the Triumph Sports Owners Association of NSW. Won the Club Championship that year. The TR5's and TR6's etc couldn't get near it and neither could the Morgans, Austin Healeys or MG's. It had done 50,000 Miles and blew an O Ring which is what you would call a Head Gasket in a normal engine and Mazda Rebuilt the motor for free, i only had to pay for the Fan Belt and Oil. In 1992 i bought a RX7 Twin turbo, Cost A$70,000 and ran it in many Mazda Club events for 10 years. After 158,000 Kl it threw a Rotor Seal and i had to have the motor rebuilt which included Recon Turbos, Clutch Etc. And had it Ported, that cost A$12,000 but what a rocketship it was then, it was a fabulous car and still my favorite and i have had many sports cars and big V8's over the years. As long as you Service the Rotary Engine correctly they will last but it is a pity that in Thailand the RX7, even though it is 20 years old now they are still around 1 Million Baht for a good origional car, but i still think of getting one here one day. If they could be set up for Gas successfully it would be a great idea and you guys have got me thinking. Like many others on this forum i tried to bring my old RX7 to Thailand 10 years ago but they would not give me a permit to import it, and i tried everything at the time. So i sold it with about 10,000 K's on the clock for the new engine for A$25,000 in 2004, what a bummer.

  8. Nice Car, Looks like a 61 to 63 Daytona, if it has the 302 cu in Supercharged motor and 4 speed it is worth plenty, quite Rare especially in Australia. They work out the price based on the New Purchase Price in the Country of Manufacture and go from there. But my advice is to forget trying to bring it here, it would be a nightmare plus it would not have the value it has in Australia or the US once it was here. it's a shame i know, but they have no appreciation of these old Rockets.

My guess is it's a 60 or 61 Lark. In Oz we didn't get the 2 door, but the front end is same as Lark.

Yes Australia did have some 2 Door Daytonas, in fact Bert Needham, the Distributor for Stude in Sydney actually Died while tuning his 302 Supercharged Daytona. The story was that he was changing the Blower to 12lb boost to drag race an E-Type Jag and while leaning over the engine and reving it the Fan flew off and hit him in the head and i was told in stuck in the old wooden ceiling. He was a good old guy and i knew him from when i was a teenager as i had a 62 Lark Station Wagon with a 259 in it, which i eventually sold to him and he took it to his farm. It was his cars that raced at Bathurst in the early 60's which ran well but had problems with wheels breaking as i remember. I'd say that probably his son may still have the car today if he is still kicking.

  10. I had the same problem 3 years ago. They came and offered me 2.75%. I said NO =, the advertised rate by Mitsu is 1.99% They said we don't know about that, so i told them to go away and get it right. I must add that at this time the car was in my Garage and being used by me daily. When they came back a week or 2 later they had the 1.99% but by this time Mitsu had changed to 1.69%, so i insisted on getting this rate, so away they went again. A week or 2 later they came back and said OK we have a special interest rate for you, and offered 1.6%, all had been with the same company that Mitsu obviously had a deal with. By this time i had been driving the car for 6 weeks and had even had the First Service done on it so we happily signed the 4 year contract at 1.60%. So if you push for a better deal it can be done but the poor Thai's in general have no idea about finance and get ripped off constantly by the salesmen every day.

  11. TOYOTA MUKDAHAN Rent cars. They are well maintained and current or late model vehicles. If you have a problem with the staff not speaking English, ask for Dr. Edith or her Son, Anan. They are the Owners of the business. The dealedship is located about half way between the Mukdahan Bus Station and Tesco Lotus.

  12. Hansje.

Personally I reckon 22" wheels look a bit odd on SUVs and pick ups but that just my opinion.

Regardless of the size you go for, the replacement tyres should have a similar load index to the OEM tyres so the pressure should also be similar.

BTW, my PJS handbook says front tyre pressure of 29 psi and rear 32 - 36 psi.

If you go for a large wheel / low profile tyre, choose the tyres carefully. I had Yokohama Parada Spec X tyres and thought they were excellent.

Recently changed to Toyo Proxes and they do not ride a well. Both have good grip but the Yokos were smoother and quieter.

Michelin Latitude Cross which are made in Poland are the best tyre when you need to change for the standard 17 inch wheels on a PJS. They are 100% better than the standard tyre and are just as quiet and only a few hundred baht extra per tyre. These tyres have more grip in the wet in 2 wheel drive than the standard tyre has in 4 wheel drive and as i have done 35,000 Ks on them now i think they will equal or better the 80,000 i got out of the origionals. Great Tyres.

  13. If you want the feeling of driving a 60's sports car go for the First Model 1989 onwards. These have no driver aids like ABS and handle terrific. If you fit Extractors and a Free Flowing Exhaust along with a replacement air intake box the Horsepower jumps considerably and it will Rev like shit. I bought one of the first 200 delivered to Australia in October 1989 and sold it to a mate when i moved to Thailand in 2004 and it has still only done 55,000 k's. No frills but a great sports car for fun. Although most people think this car was based on the Lotus Elan, they are wrong. The first models sold in Oz came with 2 books on the Design and Development of the MX5 and the photo's show that the Triumph Spitfire was used as a major comparison in the development. The car is not really underpowered but has the power to match the Chassie so it can be thrown around and the origional Tyres developed for the car were designed so the car would slide as the 60's sports cars did. It is also important if changing the wheels to get the right Offset as this was critical to the handling. I still have a complete race tuning book that was put out 20 odd years ago for this model which gives all the best mods you can do to them.

  14. That sounds like it will come in at under US$100 per cargo blind which is very reasonable i think. It all depends on what Customs Duty they whack on it. I am definately interested to have one at around this price and my prefered Colour is Black, If there is no Black my second choice is Creame. Don't forget i'm in Mukdahan but transport is no problem, it could even go on the Bus up to here. When you have worked out the price which won't be until you have them through Customs you can let me know the total cost and i will transfer you the money, no problem.

  15. Could try IMHO's suggestion with the part Number shown at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nonitoj/6058254287/in/photostream/

The Dakar is a version of the PJS in Indonesia.

I will go and check if available through Mitsu spares today and if you can get it in black or cream colour. If not available maybe we can get together and order 5 as suggested but we need to know a price first. I think i could sell 5 in Mukdahan, no problem actually.

I've sent off an enquiry to Peter Chen, owner of the company that produces the cover for a quote and shipping details. Will update once I get a response from him. How do we go about doing this- with everyone all over Thailand and you in Mukdahan?? Any ideas? biggrin.png

I have checked it out with Mitsu Mukdahan useing the part No Supplied, 7237A050HA. They say they can have it in 3 Days if ordered But the Price is a bit steep i think, 13,880 Baht. So we will see what your guy comes back with.

  16. Interesting. Thanks for that.

My Strada is the 2800cc diesel 12years old it's chain driven. I don't know if yours is belt or chain but while you are at the dealer just ask I know Toyota says 150,000km on there belts, on a chain normally only changed when making a lot of noise.

It's not so much the Chain that is making the Noise but the Chain Tensioner, If it goes you will have a big bill to pay. If you start to here noise from the front of the engine have it seen to.

  17. If you check back a few months ago you will find my thread on this It depends on the Engine Size. The 3.2lt has a timing Chain and can go for 200,000 k's, the 2.5lt has a timing belt and should be changed at 100,000 k's. The Mitsu Dealer in Mukdahan wanted to Change my 3.2lt belt as he said it was, a couple of months ago so i did a lot of checking to find out it was a Chain and didn't need changing at all. I then passed on the information to the dealer. Search back for the Full Story. In Mukdahan at the Service Center office there is a chart on the wall that gives the price for all Servicing which includes the price for changing a Timing Belt on the 2.5lt Engine. It is a lot cheaper than the 3.2lt timing Chain. I think the Quoted Price was about 23,000 baht. Get your dealer to print out the pricing for you which shows all the bits to be replaced etc.
