  1. it sounds perfectly reasonable to me . she receives an expensive education and immediately bug**rs off to a foreign country!!!!! . how many impoverished thai kids could receive additional education for the same cost as educating someone who will just p**s off . many countries suffer the same fate , educating youth ,who then emigrate ,but thailand is probably in a needier state than others, when it comes to available funds to educate their youth . .

    Certainly worthy of repeating.

  2. So Mr Thaksin doesn't love his country. He doesn't want Thailand to be strong. He loves to see his people suffer from poverty.

    1. I do think Thaksin loves his country, but unfortunately he clearly loves himself, his money, and his cronies more.

    2. I do think Thaksin wants Thailand to be strong, just so long as it doesn't conflict with Shin Satellite, A.I.S., AirAsia, ITV, etc. being the strongest companies in their respective fields.

    3. If Thaksin doesn't want his country to suffer from poverty, he has a strange way of showing after squandering a B(with a b)illion plus tax-payer baht on his ego-boosting airplane.

    :o

  3. What about the Thai people I know that scoff and deride these outlandish schemes as much as what I've seen offered up here in this forum? Does that make them unsupportive, racist, or elitist as the farangs. They poke fun at the "smoke and mirrors" diversions that Thaksin throws out there, just as much as what I read here. They see it for what it is... feeble attempts to divert the masses attention away from the reality that he continues to rape the country of it's economic future and civil liberties. Maybe they are just a sampling of the greater Thai society, but I see them as not being fooled...same as at least some of the postings here.

  4. but eye have fallen inn love with a thai lady and thailand itself.

I due not wish 2 invest doe in thailand or merry n e 1.

Sorry Astral, but I think you misinterpreted what Snake had written, which is certainly understandable given the creative writing style.

He doesn't wish to marry anyone... which negates the "marriage" visa.

  5. I saw photo of the customs officer with some Penfolds wine from Australia.......and in the background there was boxes of the stuff......I want to know what will happen to all that wine

Most likely it will be used during a media party hosted by the government to launch the latest weekly "hub" initiative....

"Bangkok, The Hub Of All Asia For Bad Hub Ideas"

  6. Did a journalist say he said that or did you read that on some forum?

one more btw, are you trying to say "FACT"? English is not my native language and my spelling may not be perfect but I'm pretty sure the word FACT means something else :o

Ovenman covered the first question quite well. Thanks, btw, to Ovenman.

For the second, I can appreciate now that English is not your 1st language. I'm not sure what you were trying to point out as your spelling and my spelling were the same, but for your benefit, I enclose the following from www.dictionary.com:

"fact" n. Knowledge or information based on real occurrences: an account based on fact.

As for Toxin, his entire term of office has been nothing more than a "marketing ploy." :D

  7. But I also heard today thet he was going to swap some chickens for chinese tanks as well

What is he going to offer for the spare parts ??? :o

Don't need spare parts... The whole idea is just to offload his business buddies chickens. It doesn't matter what they get in return. If necessary, they can just park the Chinese tanks underneath the abandoned Hopewell project eyesores as a pop art display.

Actually, they should put all remnants of lamebrain projects there, e.g. various hub plans...Thai Elite cards...various Culture Ministry initiatives, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

Create a sort of "Salute To Bad Ideas" exhibition.

  8. 1. In the last 3 years the corruption of the Thai Police seams under control as far as I can experience it,

    2. And if I see the last 3 years, the police usually, just stopped me because I made really something wrong (like all Thais), or upcountry on regular check points.

Only 1% of all stoppings were related to “bad cops”.

    3. After 10 Y. experience I learned following rolls to handle Thai Traffic Police, and to go out for free, even that I made something (minor) wrong.

    Speak Thai if you can.

    Show all you documents

Do not accept to pay “Tea Money”.

Do not accept to go to the local police station.

And if all this don’t work really refer to the International Traffic treat from 1948 which is signed from his Majesty the King of Thailand. ( ** )

The Thai Law say, that you can get go free for one week after receiving a ticket, without any pledge for minor failures.

Only for crimes the police can bring you to the police station or keep your documents or belongings!!!

YOU ARE A WELCOME GUEST IN THIS COUNTRY AS LONG AS YOU PLAY THER GAME !!!!!

OK... I'll cite a few examples.

Thai police corruption is under control? I think the vast majority of people, both Thai and farang, would disagree. I'm fairly certain the 2,500 who died last year during the so-called drug war would disagree, if they could. Corruption in the police force is rampant and if anything it has INCREASED in the last 3 years.

The vast majority of traffic stops made during police blockades or street monitoring or whatever you want to call it are arbitrary and subjective. Some people without helmets are cited, others are not. Often, if no offense was commited, one is "made-up", e.g. making a left turn from the left turn lane.

Generally, I'd recommend not speaking Thai, even if you can. Most police can not speak rudimentary English and not wanting to be self-conscious about it, will back away from stopping farang in the first place. If they don't happen to notice you are farang before stopping you, they'll often just motion you ahead if you speak only English to them. If you do speak Thai to them, it gives them the comfort to pursue their normal "ticketing". Same with showing your documents. I would not offer any up unless told to do so. The less you do on your own initiative, the better.

As for paying money, it seems a much more practical and expedient manner to deal with the situation. By refusing to do, it most likely will only anger him and thus prompting further untoward acts, such as being for additional infractions.

As for refusing to go to the police station, you'd definitely skating on thin ice there. If you have upset him (it's not likely to come up otherwise) to the point where he is taking you to police station, then by refusing to go, you'll only aggrevate the situation further.

As for referencing a traffic treaty, I don't think most policemen would appreciate you trying to tell them what the laws of Thailand state. First, they are probably unaware of it. Secondly, by pointing that out, they lose face. Thirdly, I wouldn't want to gauge his reaction to you after he has lost face. Same goes for citing "The Thai Law". The last thing a Thai cop wants to hear is to be lectured on Thai law, ESPECIALLY from a farang. As a side note, it's interesting that someone who wants to quote Thai Law to the fine print would be on overstay for over a year. What's the Thai Law fine print say regarding the possible repercussions for that?

A policeman can direct you to the police station anytime he wants to. Woe be to the person who refuses to comply.

As noted previously, I do support your recommendation to be polite and smile.

I think the last quote of your remarks is the most accurate. You need to play their game..and that game involves providing a quick gratituity for any offense you commit... whether that infraction has any factual basis or not.

  9. I personally wouldn't spend the money with my present financial status but probably would if I was loaded.

I think we all would, yes? My earlier point was if you got a million to blow on a "visa" card, it would seem that person is in a position to appropriately try and assist Thailand through a suitable charity. Is there something wrong in that assessment?

btw, whether it's 9 cards sold or 90, or even 400... don't lose sight of the fact that Toxin started this scheme anticipating sales of 1,000,000 cards to be sold.

one more btw, are you guys trying to say "mosque"?

  10. “Vendors sell these low quality bootlegged goods to tourists at expensive prices”, Pol. Maj. Sopon Borirak told TNA.

Police have promised to clean the island of bootlegged goods to make sure that foreign tourists are not disappointed with the island’s shopping facilities.

Almost sounds like the problem is NOT that they are pirated or copied, but that they are either of low quality or expensively priced. So in other words, good quality copies or fairly priced copies are acceptable?? :o

  11. Hooray for the apparent demise of the Dragon Lady. :D

How was the boat ride across the river? On my trip back, the motor died and we ended up drifting down with the current on the Mekhong for awhile... I was wondering where I could get the appropriate Cambodian visa if that became necessary. :o

Are there any signs of construction for the new bridge yet?

May I ask why you ended up going there? Are you staying up in Issan? Mukdahan is defintely off the beaten track, but I liked it very much.

  12. but I had already had once 486 Days overstay.

    no problem

at don muang airport pay 20,000 THB and go.

    Driving License, Funny day:

    You are in THAILAND

    You are in ASIA

    You are a GUEST

So please behave like a guest and you will be respected!!!!

YOU ARE NOT GOT because you have money

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

You might want to look up the word "hypocrit" in any English Dictionary

    :o

  13. So consider if you are gay at least 60,000 THB a month

and if you are straight (your own fault) 100,000 THB to get fun and live in style

Now being heard in bedrooms all over Thailand:

"I'm sorry honey, I can't afford to be with you anymore...and because of that, I'm going to turn gay, because it's more economical." :o

  14. your last question: how long stay outside Thailand?

    5 minutes will do....

I actually timed how long I spent in Malaysia my last trip to Pedang Besar. It was 1 minute, 32 seconds. :D To truly qualify, that was timed from being stamped out of Thailand and then being stamped back into Thailand. :D Is that possibly a record of some sort? Can I propose some type of a competetive contest within ThaiVisa? :o

  15. I had a Vietnamese visa on a piece of paper visa stapled into my passport. When I departed they stamped that paper and removed it from my passport. I had also forgotten my boarding pass on the plane so when I was not able to present this to the Thai immigration officer I was pulled aside into that little office room and had to wait until they confirmed with Thai Airways that I actually was on that flight.

I'm surprised as I would have thought that your special "Thai Elite" visa would have precluded being pulled aside and having to answer any type of questioning. Such shameful treatment of the upper crust... tsk tsk, shame on Thai Immigration. :o
