  1. Had a true HD plus box installed (satellite)Nov 30th - after a couple of no shows/ "we have no boxes" etc..2 smart young fella's pitched up and showed me it working,on asking a couple of questions I was told "instructions are in the box" and they made a hasty retreat .. Now the main reason I decided to go for the "free" offer was the PVR (recording ) function ..I rarely watch tv live and my old box was linked to a hard disc recorder .. Well despite "how to do recording" in the instructions and nice shiny record buttons on the screen it did not work "PVR not available" .. on checking with the local Truevision I was told "oh yes maybe available sometime next year".

So I now have a HD box with 3 HD channels (Gold Package) 1)Thai reality TV - no interest 2) Movie channel showing old movies already seen- no interest 3) Soccer channel ok of interest for the early matches at the weekend ..Traded off with the rest of my viewing ruined as I cannot record anything - my old recorder is not compatible even for "normal" channels.

I have contacted customer services by e mail explaining the situation asking to have the HD box replaced back to my old box ..response "please be informed it is not possible to change the box" .. we are now involved in a bit of a dispute !

My advice , if you have signed up or thinking about it DON'T ! wait until it is fully functional -1st quarter next year according to Truevisions customer services , but will it really happen then ?

  2. The dental Dept at KK Uni' has an excellent reputation....

....Maybe I was unlucky but originally went there with my wife for both of us to "sign up" and "get sorted" (!).

After waiting 70 mins + we both gave up - well me really truth be told..

..Now ,for similar monies I can make an appointment, turn up and be looked at ,which being an impatient farang I prefer. .

    ....Open wide

  3. I can thoroughly reccomend "Noanphan" she runs the dental side of a combined husband-wife Medical-Dentist Clinic.

Uses the latest lazer equipment - not a "drill" in site -no inflated "farang" prices, all charges displayed.

Also recomended her husband "Dr Ken".knowledgeable, fluent English just like visiting my GP "back home" !

On the main road nearly opposite Khon Kean Hospital ,approx 200 m towards the city..Can double park outside.

    043 327960

They also recomended an optician, also a good experience at the right price - however have lost his card !

  4. I think we will have to agree to dis agree !

My point is ..Yes a marine will work,BUT a specific pool/spa test strip or hydrometer will do a far better more accurate job as it scaled for 0 - 7,000ppm.

    A typical marine version scale is 0 - 1.070 Sp G

    that translates to 0 - 91,400 ppm

This means the required pool salt levels are barely registering on the bottom of the marine scale...

I personally would rather use a medium specifically designed for my pool/expensive chlorinator system . ....to me 300Bht for 20 strips used probably 1 - 2 times a month is far preferable....

I am not disputing a marine hydrometer doesn't work - just not as well as pool specific.

  5. ahem...

Aquarium salt water hydrometers are not really suitable for a pool, they are calibrated to measure the far higher levels of a salt as sea water aquarium .. they also measure in specific gravtity.

Swimming pool in the far more detailed ppm

Recomended Specific Gravity for an aquarium is 1.012 = 15,900ppm

    to 1.024 = 31,900ppm

yes the scale starts @ Sp G 1.0 = 0ppm but because the scale is more coarse, moves in increments of .010 = 13,300 ppm

so really the best it can tell is if there is any salt content in your pool OR that it is dramatically over the top.

They also are usually designed to function best 23%-29% C

    2,000 ppm = 1.002 Sp G

    6,000ppm = 1.005 Sp G

So it will work, but not very well ...and .. if one size fits all why do manufacturers make/ sell seperate aquarium and pool/spa test strips and hydrometers ?

  6. bought my BBQ from the Doc 2008 when living in Khon Kaen, had 1 prob with a faulty igniter which he came and fixed personally..

.....Now in Phu Wiang with the Barbie and all still going well !!..mind you I am still a bloody aweful cook !!

  7. OK this is a bit late BUT if you are still looking try Chris Smith @ siamconsulting..they have an office in Nong Bua Lamphu (thats on the Loie side of Udon Thani),built my 8.5 X 4.5 in the ground concrete/tiled pool with salt water system for 550,000bht 3 years ago.all still fine.

  8. An alternative would be to use a Zodiac pool heater, easy to fit ,claimed cheap to run, uses the ambient air temprature described as "reverse air con" there is one for all pool sizes up to olympic (hmm a tad bit bigger than mine !)..

...For more info their details can be found on pwpoolthailand.com under poolspa.

  9. I would have thought it blindingly obvious that air asia are usually the cheapest option to fly around Thailand + they have some very good deals "abroad" IF you can plan far enough ahead .. to try and book a "no frills" air ticket from a travel agent is just plain stupid be it AA or say,Nok Air.

I live near Khon Kaen and this week had to book 2 return tickets to Phuket for late October..Only KK carrier is Thai Airways cost to Bangkok (20kg bag allowance) 9,200Bht ..then the extra cost of BK to Phuket.

From Udon Thani direct to Phuket with A Asia ,paying for X2 25kg bags and pr booked seat 8,400Bht.

There are 3 ways to pay ,providing you click on the "right" box ! not obvious and I spent a frustrating 10mins trying to work out why I was being directed to Siam Bank DD ..Doh !

  10. I have a number of recently purchased UK crime drama series I usually sell them back to the UK on eBay but if anyone out there is interested....

All Region 2 Europe so will need a multi region player (I believe all panasonic's are)..

    All only played the once

Includes series of Foyles War / Lewis / George Gently / Taggart / Waking the Dead / Law & Order UK / Garrows Law

Also some one off's for example."The Suspicions of Mr Whicher"

If interested in any please message me and I will send a full list.

  11. If you are in the Phu Wiang/Chum Phae/Nong Ruea/Si Bun Rueang area and need your air con servicing this could be of help....

After a few disasters (including one who turned up drunk !) I have found an excellent guy for servicing my air con : -

    Tai Air Con - 083 354 3469

His shop is in Phu Wiang but will travel out to the areas mentioned.

I am in Phu Wiang and he charged me 450bht per unit (small to medium size).actually ended up paying 400 bht as I had 4 to do.

He also "does" car air con - freezers - fridges..service or repair.

    Highly Recomended ! :jap:
