  1. From very recent experience if it comes by courier i.e DHL - FedEx you will get screwed .. both on duty and "handling " fees ..I have very bad experiences with both of them ..

If you must do it, have it sent by registered regular mail,it might,as said here, slip thru' but given the value/size that is highly unlikeley .. because the valuation is documented,in my experience, you wll be charged the correct valuation + vat and you collect/pay @ your local post office who charge a 50 bhart handling fee.....

HOWEVER why not save the hassle and buy in Thailand...

  2. All recent experiences have been very good .. I think the office went thru "teething problems",both operational & staff ,now it appears to be functioning normally all credit to "boss lady" Mrs Joseph for sorting it out..

Still amazed at people turning up in swimming shorts (not attractive on an older man :) ) and vests,as said here visa renewal is a serious business, dress accordingly. If you show no respect why should they respect you ? QED.

  3. DO NOT use a courier -FEDEX/DHL - you will get nothing but grief and be ripped off at best !

I have recently had a iphone sent from the UK and a ipod from China both were sent regular post - signed for, both in plain packaging with the correct declaration because of the small size (they can't check every thing!) they arrived with the post no duty,ok that's lucky :) .

The worst that can happen is it will be customs assesed at 7% + vat ,a customs invoice will arrive in the post, you go and collect/pay from your local post office - who sent the customs info' - my local PO charge 20 Bhart handling fee....

Suggest the items are sent separately.....

I believe you are not correct in regards to tax. it is not 7% but the import tax which is more like 30% or what ever import tax is on mobile phones.

If he sends it registered post from OZ, it has only $100 insurance, more can not be added.

In OZ not all country's have insurance, need to check if Aus Post offers insurance for parcels to Thailand, if they do- then do that but i think they do not.

Aus Post does not offer insurance to USA, Canada, UK,Israel and very many other places

Doh! must be the sun (or something) it is 30% + vat ! Just had "dealings" with FEDEX ,complete nightmare - tax 73 % ,customs & admin fees 3,000 Bhart, not keen in communicating by e mail only telephone surprise,surprise....Stick with a version of "regular post"....

  4. Excellent lady dentist nearly opp Khon Kaen Hospital - English speaking -latest laser tech,no nasty drills ..

043 0327960 ,receptionist does NOT speak English....

    Ram Hospital V expensive !

  5. DO NOT use a courier -FEDEX/DHL - you will get nothing but grief and be ripped off at best !

  6. I was recomended to a Husband / Wife Medical (as in GP) and Dental Clinic I would thoroughly recomend both .. On the Dental side they use the latest laser technology and do not rip off farang's,they are in Khon Kaen.. tel : 043 327960....

OR Khon Kaen University Hospital, they have a large/well regarded Dental department.

  7. Re timing chains/belts .. I was under the impression all current modern cars used chains .. I have just checked the engine spec for the nissan 2.5 diesel and that uses a chain.

Speaking generally manufacturers switched to belts because they were quieter, however if a belt broke goodbye engine unless you were very lucky..so back to chains ,which these days should be as quiet as the old belts.

IF you are buying a secondhand car that uses belts there is no gaurentee the belt is ok,they should have been changed as part of the maintenance schedule approx every 50,000 k's .. in the uk this was stamped in the service book....in Thailand .........

  8. If you've been in the motor trade I presume you are wise to the "best time to buy" a car. In the Uk for example, when they still sold Camrys you could get a three year old ex fleet car for peanuts. It was the worst depreciation around. (maybe why they stopped selling them? ) Do your homework and look at what is going off the boil here and when...

    THere are bargains!

True, any car massively discounted into the fleet market is going to have a horrendous depreciation, trouble is after buying your bargain it keeps right on depreceating.....

Buying an older car tends to mean higher maintenace so it's a balancing act and really there is no correct answer.

Some just buy "the deal" ,some the car that best suits their needs, some combine the two !

You pay's yer money and takes yer choice..... :)

  9. It's TRS branded Pool Salt.

    25 Kgs bags

    Collect 150 Bhat

Deliver 170 Bhat (Minimum order depeding on location)

You are near Phu Wiang selling Salt for the pool and do you know where is a Company for pool maintenace around Phu Wiang or Khon Kaen.

I am not far away from you and you price looks good.

Let me know where i can find your shop and i will be there in middle of March.

OK will message you - for what little a maintenance company does with a salt water pool it's a rip off..

  10. So Regency has a 90% market share.Where do these guy get their figures?

When I take a look into a booze shop I see at least 10 different brands of brandy from which 5 are cheaper then Regency and all 10 are a better product anyway. So it is very hard to believe they have 90% market share.I guess more like 9%.

Nice to know someone has taken the time to do some in depth research :)

...Now where's my liver pills .....

  11. Last time round looked @ Isuzu and got the "we are the best so don't have to offer any thing off/freebies speach" .. Fair enough, bought a Mitsubishi..

Check out Nissan Navarra .. 3rd biggest seller in Thailand .. best engine = 2.5 diesel in auto or manual..

Don't see the problem with new car finance, stick with the manufacturers offer usually circa 2.3 % APR,4 year deal works out at 12.6 % total...

...Recently settled Mitsu' finance and got a discount,ok only 2 % BUT most finance deals worldwide are front loaded towards the interest in your monthly payments and any discount offered is off the outstanding interest not the capital borrowed SO in settling ,say, a 4 year finance after 2.5 years nearly all the interest charge would have been paid off resulting in a minimal early settlement discount - just like Thailand!

  12. Thanks for the info. I have been looking around and will probably have something purchased in the next 2-3 weeks. I have visited 4 dealers and 2 used car lots. Still debating between a car and a truck. Not sure what I will do yet, but have to make a decision soon!

The dealers I visited all offered a complete page full of free options. No cash discounts, but plenty of other goodies.

I too like the low interest rates. Did you finance yours? I have gotten mixed responses from the dealers about my ability to finance as I don't have a work permit...and don't work!!

I cleared the mitsu' finance which gave me 450,000 deposit in a 789000 truck (57 %)..The finance is in my wife's name tho' the application was joint to prove ability to pay,so we provided copies of marriage licence, land ownership,id/passport & my thai bank account..

..The finance guy @ the dealership will try very hard to sell you payment protection,in any country this is a rip off,ok not expensive over here circa 50 bhart a month extra.

  13. Check out Nissan Navara..best (2.5) diesel engine (so say the motoring press).

    Available auto/manual

Double Cab versions circa 740 - 800,000 Bhart

Nissan finance 2.5% APR - Over 4 years works out at 12.6 % real money.

Usual freebies (when asked), I have just ordered one and got :-..

    Free Delivery,No Plate etc

    1 yr Road Tax

    1 yr insurance

    Free Car mats

    Free Luggage/Load area protective shell

    Free Truck area "tonneau cover"

    Free Dark Tinted Glass Film

I have a 2.5 year old Mitsu' as PX ..offered 300,000 .. HONDA

    350,000 .. TOYOTA

    400,000 .. MAZDA

    420,000 .. NISSAN

    Haggled up to 440,000.

OK I am nowhere BK .. Did the deal @ Chum Pae Dealer. .KK Province but info' might be helpfull :) .

  14. I bought a Mazda BT-50 about 10 months ago. When I have been back at the dealer for service, I have been showing interest in a Mazda3 priced just over a million baht. I don't know how many times they have been calling me with new offers. But have been offered a 100.000,- baht discount on the model I looked at.

    Cheers

    Nana

Went into the local dealer to look at a BT 50,mentioned I had a friend who had been offered -100,000....I am sure the sales lady went a shade paler followed by a stunned silence ! ..

..She recomended we come back and see her english speaking boss on his return from his USA holiday on the 16th :) ..

Very surprised airbag (s) not standard.

  15. Calm Down !! :D

As far as I can understand it,the now ex owner is either a) a politico in Bangkok or :D connected to a politoco in Bangkok and he was not making enough money and has switched to a venture in err Bangkok !

I know that doesn't make complete sense, probably thinks he has politico protection and can do what ever he wants (could be a she)..

I bet Mitsu' are p***** off, their home site proclaims how well they did in 2009 and great expansion plans for 2010 !! :)

  16. Just to let anyone with a Mitsubishi (or thinking of one!)know that the Khon Kae,Udon Thani,Chum Pae dealers are closed .. I have seen the empty KK, Chum Pae ones .. according to a used car dealer I met the owner of these 2 also "owns" Udon Thani plus a few other's and all have been shut down.

    I e mail'd Mitsubishi Friday,so far no reply,probabably a bit busy.!

  17. Thanks to all (except dmax),very interesting and kinda what I thought (or feared !)..Will look into the ex demo idea...

As for dmax I guess the law of averages says there will be at least one Prat....just for the record the police colonel volunteered to take me round some mates of his in the used car business..maybe dmax doesn't get out much.......

  18. I live near Khon Kaen and have just embarked on the treadmill of changing my car/truck....

Last time, when in Udon,I struggled to get any sort of a deal, when approaching the subject of a "deal" most salesman(women) looked like they were going to faint on the spot.I went around with my wife ,I went around with my police sergeant brother in law + his colonel boss..same o result.....In the end we got a Mitsubushi Triton with free insurance/road tax/protective truck floor/cover and something else now forgotten!

Encountering the same scenaro in KK plus the added aggro of the Mitsu' dealer has just closed,to the obvious delight of the Toyota salesman who told me..

..I know my way around buying / selling cars from 20+ years selling BMW's in the UK..OK things work differently here, surprise - surprise :D ,my questions are :-

Are new cars just not discounted or is it just the sight of my smiley farang face ? I have noticed Thai's don't seem at all comfortable with haggling.

Our "old" car has a small amount of finance to settle which seems to mean the finance house (Tisco Bank) sets the PX price, would I do better to pay off the finance and then present my pride and joy to the dealer for a valuation.?

Anyone know of a good source of 1 yr old cars/trucks .?

Any positive info' welcome :D Daft ones not :)
