  1. For the past few years I always used 400k in bank for extension, but since I work for an oversea company, my salary is paid in USD to FCD account in a Thai bank. Has anyone have experience with what documents are required? I can get a letter (statement) from bank where the name of my employer is listed as sender, but is there any other requirement for a letter from Embassy? 

     

  2. I had the pleasure spending today rainy afternoon at the immigration in Chaeng Wattana to pickup my extension and get re-entry permit. Since it was boring just to sit around I went to several officers to ask tricky questions and found out few interesting things. For newcomers, the Immigration Act from 1979 has to be taken as a "guideline" - something like directions on highway - all cars should go this direction but if you have a motorcycle, you are in hurry or have connections or any other reason you can drive in whatever direction you want. 

     

    1. If you try to get any information from Government Hotline 1111 or Immigration hot line 1178, you will get information what was needed for your last year extension - useful for time travelers. They know TM30 exists but that's all.

    2. If you ask information in the entry hall, it has the same value as "Somchai said" - most of the staff are trainee (translated uni students working there for grades) or are good enough to hand forms or inform where to stick photo

    3. Don't bother to call any of the 02 numbers listed on their website, nobody picks up and if, then when you ask first question they just hang up. Tried several times a day for one week and made it though only two times. 

    4. You can't really talk to the officers because they will not let you talk with them unless you spend several hours waiting ... so the most accurate info for what is needed is actually here

     

    First tricky questions was with the head of TM30 section (younger female officer sitting at the table on the left):

    1. I was told that since I'm on yearly extension I do not have to report during my travels in Thailand (ie when I asked where I have to report if I visit family for weekend who live on Kanchanaburi province border with nearest police station 50 Km away and Immigration closed). I was told I have to process TM30 only when I travel out of Thailand. This seems like each officer has their own understanding of the law...

    2. The TM30 report can be done online and she confirmed the website is running - tried to register, did not get confirmation with link to proceed. If it works as good as online 90 days report or e-appointment for re-entry permit they should have sent pigeon instead. 

     

    Second question was why I have to bring pass book with 400k when I go to pickup extension becasue in the Immigration Act is only written to provide documents when submitting application, not when picking up - and they have a very nice way around how to explain:

    1. When you submit documents, the officer will verbally inform you to bring your passbook with 400k in 30 days when picking up extension, but they will not give you this in writing

    2. When asked where this requirement came from (when handing over my passport) and if they can show me any evidence of requiring to submit passbook, I was told that in my case they do not need the passbook because they only asked to bring it but if you do not want to provide then you do not have to ...??? Strange huh?

    3. When I asked the boss of the extension section (spent about 45 minutes debating all other sorts of topics) I was told that the order come during a meeting from the boos if Immigration Division 2 - therefore there is no written rule. The problem is if you try to use the excuse in point 2, they will use their "article 44" that the immigration officer can re-check evidence in case they suspect a fraud - so if you say you will not show them the passbook because they have no right to do so, they will use this to frame you - back to square one.

     

     

  3. The following situation was confirmed with head of the department giving re-entry permits:

     

    If extension expire 1 August 2018 and you come to apply on 1 July, on the same day you will receive a stamp "application under consideration, report back 1 August (in 30 days)" but your current re-entry permit and visa are NOT AFFECTED by the new application and remain valid till 1 August as stated. 

  4. I was at CW immigration today to extend (renew) my NON-IMM "O" based on marriage. Arrived 2 PM, 40 ppl waiting which took over an hour of waiting. The procedure was smooth except few forms that have to be filled on the spot. I got stamp "VISA UNDER CONSIDERATION" and must report back in 30 days. My question is following:

    If my visa expire August 1st, I can star the renewing process 45 days in advance - 15 June. This means I will get the above "Under Consideration, report back 15 July" stamp in my passport on that date, but my Re-Entry permit (and the old extension) is valid till 1st August. Does the UC stamp void the old visa and Re-entry permit? If I would leave country between 15 June and 15 July, do I need to get a new re-entry permit? The officer who was doing my visa was not sure and her boss was on training - she said will clarify when I report back in 30 days.

    If you are on the 90 day entry from a non-b visa issued by an embassy or consulate there would be no change you could apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

    If you are on an extension of stay based upon working issued by immigration you can change the reason for your extension of stay to marriage. You would first have to cancel you current extension and apply for the new extension of stay.

    To apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage you need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months or proof of 40k baht income.

    After the application is accepted you will be given a under consideration stamp with a report back date 30 days from when you applied for the extension. When you go back on the report back date you will get the one year extension stamp dated from the date your permit to stay ended.

    Ubonjoe, thanks for the info. So if my extension of stay end 31 July, I will be give 30 days "under reconsideration" + 12 months extension on 30th August. If I need to leave Thailand in the first 30 days I will need re-entry permit and then another one for the 12 month extension, correct?

     

    For other members, do you have any comments on the fees? My paperwork was handled by HR dept. and visa agent so I have no idea if the fees are OK.

  6. Hi, for the past 10 years I was on non-imm B visa but recently got a job out of Thailand (will reside here) therefore need to change my visa from B to O without traveling out of country. I have all documents ready (marriage certificate, birth certificates of kids, proof of address, money in bank etc.) but I was told by visa agent that I will receive the visa for 1 month for consideration period and after that will receive 11 months extension. Just wanted to check if anyone has experience in doing this change and what are the rules.

    The agent charges 15,000 THB professional fee; 1,900 visa fee + 2x re-entry permit (1x for the 1 month period and 1x for the 11 month extension if required).

    I got mine today @ Chomthong district. The documents required were:

    1. Original yellow book

    2. Original passport

    - they asked for work permit, did not have original so asked office to fax a copy -(they had a bit of internal discussion if they need it or not). Then they asked about blood group, religion, thumb prints, took a photo, paid 60 THB against receipt and got my card. Waiting about 50 min (lots of people in the morning) + 30 min discussion with officers and waiting for the card.

    Not sure how useful it will be, but will see :)

Hi, if you want to download complete clip from youtube, then there are many websites converting videos to MP4 (such as http://www.clipconverter.cc) - just google "youtube video download" and try. Of course it will download full length of the clip. If you want only a part, then you need to get some editing software. Once you have the videos on USB, then usually TV or video players on PC can play them continuously by playlist.

  9. Some here have a good point, some talk nonsense.

    I belive that it depends on the person itself who be called a farang" ,if he let that happen or not. Some people ( farang) dont care about it, and some feel offended by the word falang.

    We all can share our experiance here, but might not make sense for a other.

    My experiance is when people call me a " farang" i interrupt them directly, i have a name! And wished to be called MR. Or just My name. Mostly they are quite after that and use the word Mr. Your a teacher man , you are suppose to educate thai people! So if i where you, i wait the moment to teach that person how you would be like to called or named and tell her in front of a lot other people so she can loose face for all those others, and in the same time all those others got instandly the message. They will not forget that Mr!

    Im not a teacher, but have to deal with a lot off diffrent classes of people for my work , im glad i lerned to speak thai, when you do speak thai you will lern so much other stuff, and understand thai people as well.

    And yes, lot of thai people are thereble "behind scedule" as i call that a lac of education and knowledge, special the older generation, but lot of outside people as well,, as they like to scare there children by tell there kids " be carefull, the falang will bite you" and so these kids will be in fear and start to cry. Or some parents tell there daughter to get a farang boyfriend, " its easy just open your legs" is good money they say. Man ..... This stuff happends often.. w t f . Oke oke im priviledged to speak thai so much, you dont want to know how i correct those people in public, ... Hard , respectfull and very friendly as i must rep. All foreigners in thai, but i assure you, those will regret, specially REMEMBER how to approch a farang a decent way. Its all about educate them. I know i cant change the world, but at least i can make a spark to light a fire. And we all should do something together in stead wining here on a forum.

    While writing this i be remembered that i deal with this stuff for the last 15 years, and see that it improve a lot, specially becouse of you farang teachers! Thanks.

    When I moved here, lived in a condo in a small soi and was called "hey you farang" so I kept calling them back the same "hey you Thai". It was funny and in a few weeks they started using my name. To be honest, I don't care what people call me and in a sense, I'd rather be farang than politically correct "European-Asian" as the call "African-Americans" in the US.

  10. The contractor can get max. 10% of condo value as deposit, the rest is only payable after the condo is inspected and registered (either by mortgage or cash). Just a note, make sure that you inspect your room before you sign acceptance, even better if you hire a professional company (like Checkcon) who know where to look*. Well worth the few thousand extra.

    * They saved me over 70k THB when they found that sewage tank in my house was not properly seated and it broke the in and outgoing pipes (just a small cracks but it will get worse in Bangkok's sinking soil). They actually made AP to dig out the tank and seat it on proper concrete base + tens of other smaller issues (they also made them rewire some el. above ceiling, close electrical boxes on the roof etc.) - things that Thais generally ignore.

  11. You need to report damaged luggage at the airport to their staff, if you try to claim later it is usually refused. I had similar experience with NOK who damaged roof of our trolley (they drag it from stairs to loading area on concrete floor). I reported it when we arrived to destination but anyway it took 2 visits to their head offices and over 2 months to pay for the damages.

  12. You have two options, pay directly from account or by Thai credit card. I chose the 2nd option because it waives credit card fees and also getting quite a lot of points ... In both cases you have to visit MEA or PEA office where the bill came from and fill few forms. It can be only done by the person whose name is on the bill. Documents required are ID/PASSPORT, Meter number (el. bill), bank book or credit card. It takes 1 billing period to activate.

  13. Just few more things.

    You can buy townhouse in moo baan (secured compound) or on the street. If you but in moo baan, usually there are some facilities (gym, pool, security, playground etc.) with yearly fees approx 15,000 THB (500+ townhouse moo baan). If you buy on the street, no common fees, no facilities and usually no car park. As you said you plan family and sooner or later you will need a car. Make sure the house has a (secured) place to park.

  14. The yellow book has no use except proof of address, and there are plenty of simple documents to use in its place for proof of address. e.g any bills with your name and address on it. People who have them think they have something special. Anyone can get one. I think Personally I think they are a bit of a joke.

    Since I'm in daily contact with various government institutions, this makes my life lot easier.

  15. I just got Yellow Tabien Baan from local office and this is what was required (note that different offices may require different documents):

    1. Went to the local office and asked for list of docs required:

    - Legalized translated copy of your passport picture page (Embassy then Thai MoFA)

    - Legalized translated copy of my birth certificate (need to see my mother and father names and nationality)

    - Original + copy of marriage certificate

    - Original + copy of child birth cert.

    - Original + copy of wife ID

    - Original + copy of blue tabien baan

    - Original + copy of ID card of two witnesses

    - 6x 1" photo

    - Original passport + old passport showing my 1st visit to Thailand

    2. I did not take it as a priority so organizing above docs took approx 4-5 months. Once I had all docs ready we submitted to the office and waited for an appointment with the chief (I did not want to wait there for few hrs while they were checking the docs)

    3. It took another 2-3 weeks to find a suitable dates (as said above, it was not my priority) and the process was following:

    - Both witnesses have to appear in person and sign some forms including one with my photo certifying it's me

    - All must have original ID cards because they need to be inserted into PC reader for verification

    - I had to sign few more Thai forms and in record book

    - The paperwork then went 2 more officers for verifications and then I was given yellow book (free)

    all above took around 30-40 min, no questions asked.

    Notes

    - Make sure your name on passport is translated exactly the same as your name on marriage certificate or any other documents
