  1. You can get CC with some limit (ie 50,000 THB) against guarantee of the same amount or on your wife name as 2nd card (if she can get one).

As a tourist you won't get a normal CC (it requires a NON-IMMI visa and 3 years consequent Work Permit + letter from my company or pay slips), BUT it depends on the amounts you are transferring to your K-Bank account, I know few foreign guys who were offered CC just by having big $$$ on their accounts ...

  2. I'v done google search for a reliable and professional web hosting company, but still can't find the right BANGKOK based company. The requirement is following:

    Hosting of:

    - 10 different domains (.com)

    - 5 domains with web (from very simple few pages to PHP, scripts etc) - webs are done, just need to transfer

    - each domain with emails (from 10 to approx 150 accounts)

    - Administrate remotely one server on site in Chonburi

I'm not looking for a "low price cheapy geek living room solution" but for a real profi guys with 24/7 help desk, good international speed and safety / security. The current company service is deteriorating quickly, now their support don't even bother to answer emails or pick up phone, and simple task take them 3 weeks to complete...

Not sure about the forum advert rules so you can PM me any suggestions

    Thanks

  3. Apparently it was not the actual Static Line - which is attached to each Parachute - that failed, it was the Cable which stretches down the length of the aircraft and to which the individual Static Lines are clipped prior to jumping. This Cable acts as a "Hard Point" to pull the Parachute from the backpack as the Jumper falls away from the 'plane.

I have not read anything about the height at which the trainees jumped but usually it is quite low, that, and the fact that these jumpers were very inexperienced (I believe that at least for some it was their first jump) meant that they did not have the experience or time necessary to realise their Main had not deployed and then go through the procedure to deploy the Reserve.

    Patrick

The jump was from around 1,000m - which gives you less than 10 second to make decision to deploy reserve

  4. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Someone needs to answer the question of whether the macho image of jumping out of an airplane is really necessary for police candidates in the first place

Oh look at my parachute wings that entitle me to ask for an even bigger bribe

Unless this is part of a new traffic police tactic to drop police at accident sites or congested intersections, why do the police even need this parachute training??

They were from the Border Patrol Police (BPP)

  5. "It can be argued that Satish Sehgal was in violation of the law."

    Enough said.

Guests musts accept their hosts rules, customs and laws.

How about Chalerm Son? Red bul guy? Muu Ham? Violating law here doesn't mean anything as long as you have money and connections :(

  6. The Thonburi side of the Chao Phrayo River (a.k.a. western Bangkok) is indeed growing very fast....construction going on everywhere...like the new Central Mall they are building over here just outside the Bangkok City limits in Salaya, Nakhon Pathom province which borders Bangkok...this mall open mid year. I live in western Bangkok and see all the construction on a daily basis. Extension of the BTS into this part of Bangkok is really helping to create a construction boom...plus, central Bangkok has got very expensive/crowded so people and companies are opting for other parts of Bangkok.

Yes, lots of things to keep me home in Phutthamonthon these days and away from central Bangkok or even Pinklao. Some large Chinese type shopping center going up on Borom, too, along with the Homepro, and The Brio, the latter of which is sort of a poor man's K-Village--but with a Foodland--on Sai 4. Just four years ago, most of Borom on either side was elephant grass fields beyond Salaya. Now, more villages and a web of construction rocketing up, including the major improvement to Sai 5. I think the BTS will end somewhere around Salaya, eventually

Around 10 years ago I saw a plan to have some sort of train going up to Nakhon Pathom - from the pics it looked more like Airport Link.

  7. The more people they will arrest the more people will join the protest - simply because they will see the government is getting shit scared of them. If they put Chalerm and Tharit back in their cages and keep quiet the number of protesters will be much lower ...

  8. Come on armchair generals. I've been here for over 10 years and went to see all major protests. I was in front of Dusit Zoo in 2006 when coup happen, In 2008 i was near Don Mueang when taken over by PAD, in 2010 I was at Khaosarn road during the battle of Democracy monument, I was also guiding ABC and AFP journalists through sois around Asoke and Lumpini and was 100m from the spot where Sah Daeng was shot... and yes, I went to see these demonstrations too because I simply have to pass through their sites. Sometimes I stop for souvenir shopping, food or even some good music, but of course as a common sense I'm not joining any marches or doing any other stupid things.

  9. What's wrong with wandering around Siam? Its hardly a war zone. More like a street market.

Sounๆds like there are a few bed wetters who are afraid of their own shadows.

Yes,some posters do seem to be rather miserable, mustn't have fun must we?, perhaps that's why so many UK residents prefer to live in Thailand, they enjoy the sanuk which may be lacking back home.

Regarding safety, walking around the protest site is considerably safer than outside-no buses or motorbikes to run you over.

It is quite obvious from your other comment Siripon that you support Suthep and his protestors. You want to downplay the risks to people.

Unfortunately, people have been killed at the protest sites. One need not to be a participant, on either side to suffer collateral damage.

These people think its carnival. It is not. Present at these sites are large numbers of people with guns. Wherever untrained and unsupervised weapons are found, there are injuries.

Bullets can miss their intended targets or ricochet. Explosives detonated do not discriminate.

These are foolish people who run the risk of serious injury. When it happens, they will expect the embassy to come running to take care of them. Some do not have health insurance that will pay for their medical care let alone medevac flight home.

Yes. It doesn't take too much for a friendly crowd to become an enraged mob, which could bode ill for whitey. Alcohol, a bit of anti-western rhetoric - who knows what could happen. Why take the chance?

To be safe, better stay in a bunker 30m below

  10. I was there with family last Sunday, very nice weather to stroll from MBK through Rtchaprasong down to Lumphini and Silom. All this area is a market with stalls and plenty of food so it feels more like Chatuchak than a protest site.

Enterprising poor farmers from the provinces are able to make a living setting up stalls while they wait for payment for their pledged rice - go see it for yourselves.

BTW i believe the people printing and selling "Shut Down BKK" t-shirts are the same who were selling red t-shirts in 2010 .. business is business :)

How long have you been in Thailand? These protests happen every few years ie. 2006 coup, 2008 PAD, 2010 Red shirts, 2013 Suthep ... if you have common sense and not wondering around the sites at night or joining any front line marches you are safe. I have to pass these sites regularly when in downtown on business and fell safer than with traffic and motorcycles on footpath. And regarding guns I'm more afraid of some college kids firing pen-gun or throwing a ping-pong bomb on a bus than from the "security" thugs.

  12. Simple, the agent want to make sure his commission is paid in advance... When I was selling my last condo the agent insisted to be paid from the deposit transferred by the buyer.

Personally I wouldn't buy a condo without direct contact with owner, way too many "grey" areas in Thai law with power of attorney. Owner, you + two witness (wife, solicitor juristic person manager of the condo or a good friend) is the safest way.

  13. IKEA does not have their own installation services, they hire a third party company. I asked about 2 years ago and the price for 9SQM kitchen (without appliances and only with assembly) 130-150,000 THB. The company said they can do electricity, plumbing and tiles at extra charge through direct contract with them, not through IKEA, but they were quite expensive. You may consider knocking down the kitchen and making the basic preparation (based on IKEA plan) by some local chaps and then have them only deliver and assembly.

Apart from IKEA try INDEX, SB Furniture and Boonthavorn so you get some ideas and reference prices ...
