  1. I noticed on the SSA press release when they announced they were going to start mailing the 7161 and 7162 forms again that they listed a fax number you can use to send the forms.

Did anybody fax their form to SSA?

    15 Mins and free

You need a request from DLT to provide a certificate of residence, so you need to apply for the license first.

I used a little clinic by the big comprehensive school on Lao na dee road, the 50B certificate was 100B, he put a stethoscope on my chest for 10 seconds and signed it.

thanks, already went to DLT and also got my health certificate. One last question, did Immigration ask for a copy of the ID and/or Tabian Baan of the owner of the house? Did they ask for a lease? I was hoping all I need is my TM30. Thanks again.

  3. How long does it take at Khon Kaen Immigration to get a certificate of residence for a driver's license renewal?

Also, does anybody know of a clinic near Mittraphap and Maliwan Road where I can get a health certificate as well?

    Thank you

OP here. I received my Form 7162 a few weeks ago but I have not received Form 7161, for my dependent. Has anyone received their 7161 yet?

I'm thinking if it does not arrive by mid-month I will download the form and fill it in myself and send it together with my 7162.

As i posted above, I have not received either 7161 or 7162 as of today. I live in Khon Kaen.

  5. Just FYI, I still have not received my forms 7161 and 7162 here in Khon Kaen.

This is the first time in 7 years I did not receive my forms. I am very concerned.

Any other people still missing forms in Khon Kaen? Thanks

I recently replaced two older Carrier units.  One failed and so the installer had an LG inverter in stock 12,000 BTU.  It is OK however it is prone to picking up mold.  For whatever reason it picks up condensation and you will even get sprinkled occasionally from the fan blades spitting it out.

The other I did some extensive research on and got a Daikin Smart 20,000 BTU inverter.  Very Good.  quiet and it replaced a 33,000 BTU model in the same living room.

Electric charge went from about 5,500 baht a month to about 2,800 bath per month.

In talking to several installers they all said the same thing.  Mitsubishi or Daikin with Daikin having a bit more accessibility to spare parts and to avoid the Mitsubishi Heavy Duty.  The comment was they were great units but parts were expensive.

Thank you for your reply, but Daikin and Mitsubishi are a little to expensive for me.

The LG model I saw has a dual inverter with extra stuff and 12,000 BTU is about 15,000 baht installed.

  7. I am looking to replace a very old wall A/C in my bedroom at the house I rent.

I can't spend a lot of money, but I want a good unit. Need 12,000BTU.

What brand or brands to you recommend to buy here in Thailand? A lot of people said to stay away from the Thai brands or cheap brands and stick with name brands only.

Thanks for your help in advance.

After being stuck in the US for about two years with the pandemic, we finally made it back last May,. I could not wait to get back, and now that we are here  I cant wait to get out.

I am not a big drinker, but when we go out to diner, I enjoy a cold beer with my spicy food. Where is the covid danger in that?

I get it, some people go out , drink too much, become more irresponsible than they already are, and contribute to the spread of the virus and I get that many bars try to get around the restrictions by rebranding themselves as restaurants, but why not protect against that behavior, instead of implementing a blanket restriction?

The answer is easy. Laziness !! a lot easier to implement blanket restrictions than targeted responses.

A few months ago we were out in a restaurant on Khon Kaen , and asked the waitress if we could have a beer or was it still restricted.  The waitress with a sad smile said that we could not, and we understood,

Not her fault, I am sure she would be more than happy to sell us a beer if she could.

As we sat there enjoying our meal with out the benefit of a beer, a crowd of man came in , and as they ordered their food, they were served a number of mouth watering cold beers.

I kid you not, If I am lying may god strike me dead!!

"What gives" I asked my wife already suspecting the answer.

"Oh they must be some higher ups" she said as naturally as breathing.

I think I can pin point the moment that I decided that Thailand was not for me anymore was then and there.

Why should the "higher ups" go to the trouble of implementing targeted responses, did these responses affect them?

The beer ban is one small cut, I get it. But there is such a thing as death by a thousand cuts I think as I type this 3:30 am because the howling dogs wake my up and I cant go to sleep.

Why do anything about all these dogs? it's probably vey quite where the "Higher ups" live , and I am sure they dot need to grow roosters to eat.

April 3rd I am out of here and I cant wait.

First of all, everyone makes decisions based on their own individual needs, wants and desires. Also, unfortunately, money does factor in one's decisions and choices.

I am so happy for you that you are going back to the US and wish you much enjoyment and happiness.

I would go back in a nano second if I could, but it is mission impossible for me.

Please follow up once you go back.

  9. I am so happy for you on your move back to the US.

This made me cry as I want to go back with my Thai wife and son so bad and I would go in a nano second, but it is mission impossible for me.

Enjoy your life and hope you are both happy and healthy.

  10. You are so fortunate to have choices. I would go back to the US in a nano second if I could even with all the incredible problems they have.

Everybody has different needs and wants and what is important to them so nobody can say what is right or wrong for other people.

I wish you and your wife nothing but the best and enjoy your life. Hope you stay happy and healthy.

    I haven't needed OTPs.

I think they have a program if you choose to do that.

No, I've only done direct SWIFT and it's been very fast.

I did determine that if it's over 10K USD they will probably call you and ask some annoying questions.

Thanks for answering my questions. Just one last question-

When you do a SWIFT transfer to your Thai bank from SDCFU, does it get coded as a foreign transaction (FTT)?

    Thanks again

It's a credit union. Not a bank. You need to join something initial. Like a consumer organization. I think it cost me 5 or 10 bucks one time. They are somewhat quirky and very security minded but officially accept expats. But you could still be rejected for other reasons. It's easier to open initially with a US address and driver's license and change the record later but you can open with a passport. I use them to direct deposit my social security check so YES on that! Online SWIFT wires are 25 dollars.

Federal Credit Union in DC, VA, & SC | SDFCU

    Do they use OTP's?

If so, do they send them to a Thai phone number or to your email?

Have you ever used them to send money with WISE?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I'll check out US Bank.

So you reside outside of the USA "permanently" and US Bank don't mind that your physical, residential address is in a foreign country?

I am curious and have 2 questions-

    1) You say you have a permanent address in the US but you don't live there permanently-how does the bank know this?

    2) Do you also have a US phone number with the bank as well?

    Thanks

The fact that the IRS may have started accepting efilings a few days ahead of their previously stated start date should be good news I think?

Given the extremely dire predictions being made about a lack of funds, equipment, personnel ahead of this season's exercise, they may want to get a headstart?

I wish I were ready to file, I guess I could but waiting on one 1099 for a complex holding. I could guess, but it is said to be due today.

Strange for sure. My guess is that they accepted some returns to see if their are any bugs in the new software.

That's the reason they used for pushing up the filing from Jan. 31st to Jan. 24th.

This is the way it worked last year.

Some tax prep software accepts and holds returns efiled. And then forwards them to the IRS when the IRS opens for business.

Mark your calendars! The IRS will start processing tax returns on Monday, January 24, 2022. But don’t wait. File today with TurboTax, and be first in line for your tax refund!

TurboTax is already accepting tax returns and will securely hold them for transmission to the IRS and States once they begin accepting e-file. Whether you want to do your taxes yourself, get help along the way, or just fully hand over your taxes to a tax expert, TurboTax is open and ready to help you get your biggest refund.

I stated that in my OP, but read my comment above. The IRS where's my refund does show that my return was accepted with this year's refund amount and of course still waiting for the refund to be approved.

I am a professional tax preparer and I tried to e-file a return yesterday without success and received a message the IRS is not accepting returns yet.

I wonder if it only passed the Turbo Tax screening and they are holding onto it until the IRS opens up their e-filing systems.

I went to the IRS site and the Where's My Refund tab. I entered my information and it does say that my return was accepted with the correct refund amount listed. I am of course still waiting for the refund to be approved.
