I asked Wise 3 questions about this issue:
1. Do you confirm that selecting “funds for long term stay in Thailand” no longer assures that Bangkok Bank will be the selected partner bank for a transfer?
2. What changed at Wise such that selecting “funds for long term stay in Thailand” no longer operates as Wise originally intended? It worked for two years, until last week.
3. Can you confirm that “tagging” an account to only use Bangkok Bank (BBL) as the partner bank is the only way to ensure, without fail, that Bangkok Bank is actually used?
Their response (take particular note of #3):
1. If a customer selects "Buying Property Abroad" or "Funds For Long Term Stay in Thailand", their payments will automatically be routed through Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Bank. So it is not always guaranteed that Bangkok Bank will be the selected partner bank for these transfer. There can be unforeseen scenario where a certain partner might be facing a technical issue and the system will route the payment via another available partner to ensure same day delivery.
2. In regards to what changed, it is something that we are still looking into with our partners to check on what changed on their end. [FYI @ianguygil]
3. "Tagging" an account to only use Bangkok Bank to pay out THB does not work 100%. If there are any unforeseen events, our system will have to route the payment another via another available partner to ensure delivery.
We are more than happy to help our customers that reach out to us so we can tag their account, but we cannot always 100% guarantee that Bangkok Bank will be the partner to delivery the payment.
The response especially to number 1 is crazy. WISE only uses K Bank and BKK Bank, so why do they have this option if it can go to either bank? The sole purpose of that option was to make sure it only went to BKK. They are just giving standard answers in their manuals to questions and trying to match them up as best they can. Pathetic!!

I did two $100 USD Wise to Bangkok Bank transfers this week both times selecting the "funds for long stay in Thailand" and both were paid from Kasikorn Bank and did not get the FTT code in my BB book, so I went to Kasikorn Bank's International Trade Center here in Pattaya (it has to be their International Trade Center, a regular branch won't understand) and asked about the transfer and getting a statement. The lady asked me why I need the statement, I told her in order for me to get visa I need to show immigration the money comes from overseas, she said I need to print the Wise PDF letter, bring my passport (not sure if I need to bring a copy) and my Bangkok Bank book and 200b and she'll print out a letter to show immigration the money was an international transfer.
So if Wise can't fix the problem at least not all is lost.
Except the nearest K Bank Intl Trade Center is over 125km from me.
Just curious, did you ever have your account "tagged" for Bangkok Bank only transfers?
Sorry you're having this problem. Worked for over 2 1/2 years. Hope WISE somehow, someway finally addresses and fixes this issue.

When we used the funds for long term stay option as the reason for transfer, the transfer always went directly to Bangkok Bank and no other bank was used for the transfer. Now, that is not happening? Why and will you please fix it?EXACTLY!!!! Thanks!!!!!! Look forward to their reply.

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT ever mention about FTT coding or International Transfer Coding.
That is NOT a WISE issue as it was explained many, many times how their transfers work.
PLEASE, if you or anybody contacts WISE again, the ONLY question that needs to be asked is the following-
When we used the funds for long term stay option as the reason for transfer, the transfer always went directly to Bangkok Bank and no other bank was used for the transfer. Now, that is not happening? Why and will you please fix it?
That's it, no more, no less. We keep chasing our tails with the wrong questions!!

I've just done a transfer to my Bangkok Bank account 12.10pm Thai time and it arrived immediately and sure enough WITHOUT the FTT code.
I have emailed Wise pointing out the problem and am awaiting a reply.
Not to insult you, but did you select funds for long term stay? Did you use debit ach as well? Thanks and sorry to hear of your problem. Please let us know what Wise says.

2 hours ago, Pib said:After finding email correspondence from over two years ago when I contacted Wise about "tagging" my transfers to always use Bangkok Bank as the partner bank so I could get FTT coding (this is before they came out with the Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer).....relooking some old & new Wise transfer PDF receipts showing accts sent to and partner banks used which includes accts I added "after" getting my Wise acct tagged....and a couple of transfers I did today/have underway, I now need to correct what I said earlier that from my real world transfer experience when you have your Wise acct tagged acct to use Bangkok Bank as the partner bank that it results in it applying to all your recipients/transfers.
I now believe it only applies to those recipient(s) accts you specifically identify to Wise to tag--not your whole acct/all recipients to include new recipients you might add after your tagging request. I base this on my email back & forth with Wise over two years ago and in that email chain they did ask which recipient(s) to tag...apparently they were not not tagging my whole acct/not any & all recipients...just the specific recipients I requested be tagged.
Now, at that time I only had two recipients consisting of one Bangkok Bank acct (which I still have as an recipient but now use rarely for Wise transfers) and an acct (recipient) I had at another Thai bank. So, since Wise asked which recipients to tag...I told them my two recipients and they did such which at that time was "all" the recipients I had...a grand total of two recipients. But since the time I had those two specific recipients tagged I've added some more of my and wife's accts at Bangkok Bank and primarily did my transfers to these added recipients/accts.
But in doing transfers to these Bangkok Bank recipients which I added after the tagging, those transfers "always" ended-up with FTT coding with Bangkok Bank used as the partner bank and always arrived at around 2pm (no near instant transfers) regardless of the reason for transfer used...and I did do tests using reasons for transfer other than the Long Stay Thailand reason to see if would give me near instant transfers like some folks get...however, I never got any instant transfers up until about a week or so ago..
Now this morning I initiated a transfer to that Bangkok Bank acct which I had tagged over two years ago and previously tagged recipient I hadn't done a Wise transfer to for over a year.....selected Long Stay Thailand as the reason for transfer....immediately funding from my multicurrency acct....and the transfer did "not" occur near instantly. Instead it said it should arrive in 7 hours which would be around 2pm today (Thailand time). I fully expect when it arrives it will receive International Transfer/FTT coding and Bangkok Bank will have been used as the partner bank...will know later today...but I would bet money on it now.
Then I initiated another transfer to a Bangkok Bank acct/recipient I added after tagging those two other accts/recipients a couple years ago....selected Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer....immediately funded from my multicurrency acct...., and the funds posted to the Bangkok Bank acct in 3 seconds with Transfer from Other Acct description and K-bank used as the partner bank.
So, based on my updated real world transfer experience/testing and after putting more pieces of the puzzle together from my tagging correspondence with Wise over two years ago, I now believe when you ask Wise to tag your acct if you have more than one recipient they will need to know which recipient(s) you wanted tagged as they tag by recipient and not all your recipients in your Wise recipient list.
Now if you only have one recipient, well, I guess you could say (or end-up thinking) your whole Wise acct is tagged (like I was initially thought), but in fact only that one recipient is tagged. Heck, if you had a recipient(s) at a bank in a country other than Thailand (e.g., Spain, Mexico, etc) then that recipient couldn't be tagged to use Bangkok Bank...so, Wise must have to tag by "specific recipient"; not your whole acct/all recipients if having more than one recipient.
And if you add more recipients after tagging or probably even delete/re-add an acct you had tagged before, then those added accts/recipients will not be tagged...you would need to contact Wise to get that newly added recipient(s) tagged.
Now, in saying above about tagging, the new problem which started a week or so ago of just selecting the Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer to get FTT coding when sending to a Bangkok Bank acct is a separate issue. I just now for the last week or so when using that reason and sending to a Bangkok Bank recipient I added after my tagging several years ago (i.e., an untagged recipient) that I no longer get FTT coding (but I use to each & every time)...and the transfers no longer posts around 2pm but posts almost instantly via K-bank partner bank.
Summary: I now believe Wise tags specific recipient(s); not your whole list of recipients if you have more than one. And not getting FTT coding when transferring to an untagged Bangkok Bank recipient when using the Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer is a separate issue--a new issue starting a week or so ago. It surely would be nice if that Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer would automatically ensure FTT coding like it use to when sending to an "untagged or tagged" Bangkok Bank recipient...not even have to worry about this "tagging" stuff which this thread shows can be confusing for the Wise customer and Wise Customer Support.
Thanks Pib for clearing up your situation as to why your transfers earlier this week did not work properly.
From the very start, the ONLY issue that has occurred is that for some people, when they used the funds for long term stay option, it did NOT work and the transfers were instant and did not go directly to Bangkok Bank.
That issue needs to fixed or clarified by WISE. If this is not an option anymore, then remove it and tell us what we need to do-tag account??

16 hours ago, KannikaP said:No, the only issue is that the transfer is not shown as an FTT on my Bangkok Bank statement & book, as it has done every month for over two years, and that I shall have to start sending my monthly transfer via SWIFT to ensure that it does.
That is because another bank was involved in your transfer and that should NOT have happened when you used the funds for long term stay option and that is the problem and only problem is why is that reason for transfer option not working now?

Email reply from Maria at Wise this afternoon. Very strange eh?
I already coordinated your question to our Payments team and they mentioned that transfers sent through Bangkok Bank and Kbank will arrive as local transfers.
If you look at your pdf receipt for your transfer, they ALWAYS say sent by local transfer.
The next line says who the partner bank/s are that made the local transfer.
However, Bangkok Bank codes it as an International Transfer. Don't kick a gift horse in the mouth.
So Maria did tell you correctly how the transfers arrive. That has never been the question or an issue.
Once again, the ONLY issue is the funds for long term stay no longer guaranteeing the transfer goes directly to Bangkok Bank.

Correct, that is why WISE put in the Funds for long term stay option for people who wanted their transfer to go directly to their Bangkok Bank account and get the FTT coding.

Remember, for people who use Bangkok Bank, we always got our transfers coded because they came DIRECTLTY to Bangkok Bank and did not use Kasikorn or any other source to send funds to our account.
When that happens, Bangkok Bank gives us the International Transfer, when Kasikorn is involved, we don't get it.
WISE has NOTHING TO DO with the coding.

I just called Wise and got to talk with a lady with a very 'dark' voice. Explained the situation regarding transfers to Bkk Bank not showing as International, and she is checking it out for me, even though I just had an email telling me that all transfers to Bkk and K'korn banks will be Local. What a load of b*ll*x.
What they told you is correct and has always been that way. It is Bangkok Bank ONLY that gives the International Transfer Designation. WISE transfers do NOT cross borders and that is why it is marked as local transfers.
Everyone keeps getting this patent response because they are asking the wrong questions and giving them the wrong problem we are having.
The ONLY question that needs to be asked is that the Funds for Long Term Stay when used was ALWAYS sending the transfers directly to Bangkok Bank and never instant transfers using another bank. This is NO LONGER the case. Why has this happened and it needs to be fixed. PERIOD!
All other questions regarding international will not address or fix our problem. It only gets more confusing and nothing will be done.

I have seen this on here and facebook. I sent an email to them on Sunday. Still no reply. I did a transfer today and it was posted to my account at 1401 as an International Transfer.
Glad all went well. Did you also use funds for long term stay and the debit ach method? What country? Did you ask to have your transfers tagged to BKK bank only? Thanks for your help.

Tagged means Wise will use Bangkok Bank as their partner bank. This is important if sending to a Bangkok Bank acct as this will then result in International Transfer/FTT coding on your Bangkok Bank acct. However, if your receiving bank is not Bangkok Bank (i.e., some other Thai bank) then your transfer will first still go to Bangkok Bank as the Wise partner bank (since its been tagged to do such) and then Bangkok Bank will relay it to your other Thai bank which results in domestic transfer coding at the other Thai bank...not international transfer coding.
Didn't you post earlier that you also did the tag thing a couple of years ago but your transfer yesterday or 2 days ago did not come thru as FTT and was instant?

yes a couple of years or so ago when this issue first arose Wise ( Transferwise as was then ) specifically said that they had addressed the problem with the reason for stay as long term showing which we all know about and also that my account had been "tagged". They elaborated and said as was tagged transfers to Bangkok bank would now be shown as Foreign Transfer. Now I have no idea what they mean by tagged but I have never had a problem including today.. As @racyrick has suggested then calling WISE should resolve the problem and maybe being "tagged" will ensure an auto process command to show a transfer as FTT, but only guessing.
So I assume you made a successful transfer today to BKK, is that correct?
Did you use the Long Term Stay option and Debit ACH? Thanks and glad all went well with your transfer

I opened a Bangkok Bank account today as I wasn't happy with SCB. I just did a $100 USD Wise transfer tonight (Oct 12 @ 1830) as a test run, I paid using the ACH option and chose the "long term stay in Thailand" reason, the money was in my BB account in about a minute. When I checked my Wise account on my iPhone it shows "Delivered via; Local Bank Transfer". I'll update my bank book tomorrow but it's not looking like I'll get the FTT code ????
Unfortunately, it will not be coded FTT.
When a transfer is done almost instantly, it means it did not go directly to Bangkok Bank and another bank was used in the transfer. Only those transfers that get credited to your BKK account at about 2pm will be coded FTT.
You should call WISE like many of us has done to tell them your issue and see why this happened and if they are fixing the issue.

Online banking shows "International Transfer". I have not updated my passbook yet but that really is not important.
Before people go jumping off the deep end they need to remember that Wise support flagged my individual account to go through Bangkok Bank after the problem started. This transfer was not necessarily a foreign transaction because I selected 'funds for long stay in Thailand'. In fact as @Pib has pointed out, having your account flagged to go to Bangkok Bank as FTT might become a problem if you need an instant transfer of funds.
I have other ways to obtain instant cash in Thailand so for me this is not a problem. I use the Bangkok Bank account for transfers in and out of Thailand and to hold larger balances. I have a secondary bank account that I use for ATM withdrawals and online shopping and I keep a low balance in that account. Everyone has their own way of organizing their finances. One size does not fit all.
We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next week or so. I'm still of the mind that this is a computer problem Wise is having. Fixing a systemic problem in a large global computer network is not always easy.
Also note: The account I am depositing into is Bangkok Bank. If you flag the Wise account to go to Bangkok Bank and the last leg of the transfer is to K-Bank or SCB and others it will likely show as domestic.
Thanks for the update. Everything still seems to be very uncertain as there have been posts of people saying they are still getting instant transfers today and others saying it was back to normal with Bangkok Bank. Still hit or miss with no rhyme or reason. Scary as to what decision to make in regards to doing a transfer. Hopefully more people will let us know either what WISE said or is doing about the situation or if they are still having a problem with their transfers.

Transfers this morning seem to be working ok, yesterday when you did yours not working
Seems like we read the same posts, but no one who said their transfer was not instant and would be deposited at 2pm have yet to confirm it was and had the FTT coding.
I did see 2 or 3 people say that they did a transfer this morning that was instant indicating the issue is still there.
Very confusing reports until we get an actually confirmed answer by a couple of people that things are back to normal.

Looks like the issue is still there, I did a Wise transfer in the last 24 hours and came with tag "Interbank Transfer via SMART". Previous transfers came with "International transfer". This is my Bangkok bank account.
I did an interactive support chat with Wise and they are going to look at the issue. I sent them a link of this thread to see how many people are affected.
When did you do your transfer?

The only way will will know is when people post as to what happened with their transfers today.
If it comes immediately to the bank, the problem is not fixed.
Also, you might be right about only your account being fixed, I read on Facebook that a person did a transfer this morning and it came instantly. Hopefully we will know later today. Thanks again for all your updates.

I just did at 6pm Thailand time another low USD transfer to my Bangkok Bank acct...funded from my multicurrency balance...selected Long Stay Thailand...it did not receive Int'l Transfer/FTT coding....Wise PDF Receipt shows K-bank used as the partner bank....funds posted in 6 seconds which is 50% longer than the 4 second transfer done this morning. Another almost instant transfer from US to Thailand. But as mentioned I did not receive FTT coding.
Obviously problem still exists and nothing has been done by WISE. Very scary and unsettling especially with all the complaints people said they made with WISE.

I started a support email with wise a few days ago and this is the latest. I think it does shed some light on the situation. i.e that wise does flag some transactions so that they arrive in Thailand as foreign transactions.
Note the none guarantee.
Edit: I will initiate a transaction tomorrow and see what happens.
Many of us did ask to be tagged 2 years ago but now it is not working. We also use the long term stay option to be sure and it always worked until last Thursday for all of us whether you were tagged or not and no matter what country.
Please keep us posted on what happens tomorrow on your next transfer. Appreciate your help!

Wise transfers not being processed as International (Specifically Bangkok Bank)

If it didn't come instantly, you should be ok. By the way, tomorrow is Saturday.
