  1. I won't say why exactly, but I internet is very important for me (I live in CM as well) and speed and reliability are important. So far, AIS super 3g wireless router + 3g internet has worked out better than anything I was able to find at least in Bangkok. Having a second internet connectio0n is a good idea as well. You can set this up at central airport plaza on the third floor. (about 1k baht a month with contract).

Also, a secondary backup internet that is okay is 12-call wifi (899 a month I believe) and internet tethering.

  2. I have been in Thailand for a while and just rented motorbikes, but I realize this is more expensive in the long run. I currently live in Chiang Mai and am here for at least a year, so I want to BUY a bike! I don't know hardly anything about bikes.. I can drive one, and I like how I can pass cars when needed ! :)

I just need a bike that I can use long term, that is practical, safe as possible, and good quality to use for every-day life. I am thinking of buying something like a click, but if there is something I don't know about a step or two above a click I would prefer that. I am a tall, heavy person often carrying someone with me fwiw. Budget is around 70,000 baht. Any recommendations?

    Thanks very much!

  3. 'Perfect Furniture' have pretty good range, with 2 shops in bangkok - 1 on the 5th flr at MBK, and another on 4th/5th flr ( I think) at Central World Plaza. Much cheaper than Modernform or Rockworth, I thought.

I bought one of the Eames Aluminium Group reproductions for around 7000 bht and it's not bad.

I bought a chair from perfect furniture, waited two weeks for it to get delivered, and it broke the very first day I had it. Aerons are awesome chairs that will last forever, be very comfortable, and will be great for your body. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a good computer chair if you spend a good amount of time in them. Computer chairs, beds, and shoes are all things that you should be willing to spend extra on and get high quality, you spend a lot of time in these objects, and better ones will be better for your health. Your overall comfort will be higher as well.

  4. hands down the best sushi deal is in the "Swiss le concorde" near din-dang. It has 600 baht all you can eat Japanese featuring mostly sushi. You order the food, and it is then cooked/served to you. The rooms are also in a Japanese setting, and you will have multiple waiters helping you out. The sushi is also amazing.

    DEFINITELY check this out.

My lifetime sushi loving friend said Zense at central world had the best individual piece of sushi he has ever had but it was 300 baht a piece.

  5. I just ate at the Outback in Siam Discovery, and the service was good, the food was good. The blooming onion was not quite as good as back home, and their menu lacked a lot of things I wanted, but overall I was happy with it. Didn't experience any rude waiter or any loud music at all, just huge portions of almost-as-good-as-back-home outback food.

  6. I got used to bottled water in Russia so I searched Google before I came and ordered the same day I moved into my apartment. I do recommend the cold/hot water system, buy it somewhere in a supermarket, but it provides excellent ice cold water and instant boiling water for those great cup-a-soup-packages.

In my building they come by once a week, I put the old botlle out with a coupon and find a full one when I get bask, very civilized.

Mind you, with 4 people, perhaps the filter system that givenall is recommending may be a cheaper solution in the end.

I ordered sparkle starting oin Monday, and I guess I will have to buy a water dispenser, so I am not pouring 15+ Litre bottles straight into glasses :)

The hot/cold sounds great, I assume carrefour or tesco lotus will have these? Thanks for the recommendations all!

  7. I am currently getting around 0.5 - 50 KBPS depending on time of day with either TOT or True (have both connections). I tried to call to set up with CSoXINFO (sp?) but I h ad to call three times to get them to answer, they disconnected my call while I was on hold twice, hung up on me when I called back, I tried one more time, the web site was down and the person who could tell me how much the service costed was "out to lunch" and they would call me back, never called back. Called again next day, no answer. I figure this is an indication of their customer service, so I am going to go with JZ-bizconnex 2mbps connection. Apparently it has international servers for good international speed, which is all that matters to me, besides stability.

I will report wih how the service is once I get it, apparently will take a few weeks. Also have to go to an internet cafe to print out / fill out a large application form, then fax it.

  8. Where can you actually BUY a hookah and quality tobacco in Bangkok?

this. I appreciate the references to Soi 3, and will check them out today. If they don't have any for sale though, I will be back to the hunt. I heard someone say they are for sale in China Town or Khao San road, but are hard to find if you are there. I may check those places out, but have never been, and am looking fora better quality one as well. I will report back if I find anything for sale in Soi 3, maybe just have to bu y one from the restaurants.

  9. I had the same thing, tried the anti fungal medications, anti rashes, creams, etc. Finally went to the doctor and it turns out I had a fungal infection that can be picked up from being around an animal even.. they gave me medication called "sporal" and had to take two pills twice a day for two weeks, and it finally killed it. They tested a toe nail that was looking off, and that tested positive for a fungal infection as well, so I have to take the medication for five months, two pills two times a day for two weeks, stop two weeks, repeat.

If you don't get it checked out, it will probably just get worse.

  10. Quick question, are there any companies/services that provide water delivery on a weekly basis or so? we have four people living in one house, and we have to buy massive quantities of bottled water all the time. Google proved unhelpful.

    Thanks!

  11. Hey, this is my first post, but I have been living in Thailand with a few friends since the beginning of the year first in Phuket, and for the last few months in Bangkok.

It is very important for us to have internet here that is fast, and does not disconnect -- we have two internet services simultaenously and they are not working, and are terrible quality and disconnect a lot.

I live on Sukhumvit Soi 26, and we have two internet connections right now, a "True" internet and a TOT(?) that are both connected simultaneously and switch over when one drops. They still disconnect a few times an hour (usually only for a few seconds, but this is enough to cause huge damage) and t he router switches over fast enough to prevent any loss sometimes, but its not really acceptable.

Are there any good, or better internet services that are not as expensive as private business lines ?

Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks!
