  1. Go ahead and buy a condo and put it on AirBNB for daily rental, the rest of the block can do the same. Dont be surprised (or complain) it someone takes it a step further and starts doing by the hour rentals.

I knew a guy in pattaya, a couple of years ago, who had exactly that going on in his condo block. This guy owned a condo close to beach road, someone brought or rented all the other condos on his floor. A little old Thai lady lived in one of the condos, hookers (with a customer) would knock on the little old ladies door, pay 300 baht, get fresh towels, a condom and the keys to a condo, An hour later keys were returned and the little old lady would go and clean the room.

Hmm your mate is pulling your leg. Little old lady would never get any sleep and any informed munger knows you don't get free condoms.

  2.
The exagerated claim is in regard to your description of the  foreign broadcasts. You state that  The Way thailand and it's people have been reported on international news have been a credit to them and I belive holiday makers will see this

My comment was rather obvious. I will make it even clearer: The BBC news was blocked several times.  The ISP providers are censoring foreign news feeds.  The reason given is that these news reports are negative, or violate Thai law in regard to subject matter. I draw your attention to some of the events that have occurred and that are front and center in  some foreign news feeds.
    Are you blind? Look at some of the headline stories today;
    - Woman forced off a bangkok bus and slapped for alleged comment. Note  the alleged adjective as there is no evidence that she did anything illegal.
    - Thai government  to go after  Thais making comments in foreign countries
    -  "A blogger known for promulgating anti-Western conspiracy theories urged people Tuesday to protest at the BBC’s bureau in Bangkok and personally harass its correspondent"

This is what is being reported and a rational person can draw his/her own  conclusions.  As I stated earlier, there are a large number of Thais who's emotions are frayed and who are sensitive to any form of assumed or presumed disrespect. Prudent foreigners need to watch their mouthes and their actions more than usual for the next 30-90 days.` This should give some people cause to hesitate, and to reconsider their immediate plans.

Would you  want to have a loud pool party with music, booze and scantily clad invitees  in close proximity to a neighbour who was in deep  mourning and holding a memorial service at the same time as your  party? Would you want  Louis and Big Bertha doing cannonballs into the pool and swearing up a storm while the neighbour was trying to recite prayers and to  quietly reflect and meditate?  I would not and most compassionate and considerate people would not want to do it either.  A large number of people come to Thailand to party and to fornicate. If that wasn't the case, Koh Samui, Ao Nang, Phuket and Pattaya would be deserted ghost towns.

Are you for real? Tourists having pool parties. Your way over exaggerating.. Tourists stay in hotels so unless somchai is grieving in the room next to yours the chances of a conflict are zero!!

Do you not have anything better to do than make up silly stories?

  3. 30 years and hundreds "bad tourist year" threads, coups, civil riots, bombs.. And still the tourist numbers increase. Was actually nice walking around Chang Mai last night, lots of tourists at the night markets and the usuall places but no noise.. I like it

  4. God Damn! I wish I was a pretty Thai girl and could just get my man to build me a house! [emoji23] I'm clearly doing it wrong!

And you would still be doing it wrong. Most of these are not pretty, the really pretty ones get several condo's in Bangkok and would barely roll out of bed for 400k lol

  5. In what Way has the army affected your quality of life in Hua hin ?
The noise in HCMC will drive you insane. A Thousand motor bikes all tooting the horn at the same time and the people selling watches and sunglasses are in league of there own so bad that your forced to sit as far back in the restaurant as possible
Thai style beer bars are few and far between. I could never live there

  6. Things will get progressively worse until Cambodia surpasses Thailand as the preferred destination for retirees. The Thai propensity to kill gooses that lay golden eggs is well established and will never change. Their paranoia and xenophobia is off the chart. They progressively try to make things randomly more difficult for expats by high-handed juggling of rules and regulations. Everything in triplicate because a database would stretch their limited IT understanding to the breaking point. Generate tons of paperwork which is then shredded and start from scratch is the mantra here. There may not be another race of people who are so adept at refusing to learn from experience. Until the current military leadership faces death by lethal injection for treason, Thailand will remain a dangerous place to exercise freedom of speech and life for expats will continue to deteriorate. In addition, the "Thai-O-philes" will continue to chant "love it or leave it", as if this solves any problems.

Cambodia is the arm pit of Asia about to be joined by the Phillipines.

  7. As said earlier there will be lots of different versions on this so be prepared, here's mine:

as a foreigner you can buy a condo using funds brought in from overseas as long as the building has no more than 49% foreign owned units, 51% are reserved for what is known as the Thai quote - I think that's pretty much fact.

There is a thriving condo. rental market here, income from the rental should be declared to the tax authorities and tax paid on that income, few people do however and many operate on a cash only basis.

The issue of whether a work permit is required for the above has come into serious focus only recently, I believe a work permit is NOT required as long as taxes are paid.

There may be another issue which although not insurmountable can be aggravating and that is opening a bank account and importing funds. There have been reports that people on tourist visa's have had difficulty opening a bank account, long term visa holders don't have the same problem. You could open a non-resident account easily but that wont allow you to deposit Baht (rental income) into it although it will allow you to transfer the funds needed to purchase the condo, into the country. You may need to do some work on this aspect although different banks and branches in different parts of the country all have different answers on this point it seems.

"You could open a non-resident account easily but that wont allow you to deposit Baht (rental income) into it "

How would they know where it came from? Ive never had issues

  8. "If there were a serious economic crisis in Thailand, things would deteriorate very quickly.

Could you or would you, just pack up and leave or is your fate intertwined with the fate of the Thais"

Cant see how a crisis would effect me, can you elaborate?

Im not loyal but short of a civil war Im not leaving to go and live in a bland  boring and sterile western city where Im no longer Hansum man

Notice the bashers have not responded? There is a reason for this, basically they are cowards who hide in the shadows waiting for somebody else to start or until a pack has formed and then they all jump on board..much safer that way :bah:
