  1. If you want to find out about speed mods to bikes you need to go to HKS Drag Racing in Bangkok on Bike days. Not only will you find every speed mod known to man, you see incredible speeds achieved that you would not believe without seeing. HKS is professional quarter mile track with christmas tree light starting. The bike in the photo posted a 10.9 sec in the 1/4 mile. Before you say impossible, go see with your own eyes. I live near HKS and see this all the time. The Thai's that drive this fast are crazy, the mechanics can change and tune an engine in minutes. Something you have to see to believe. This bike will run flat all over your CBR 150. tons more photos from HKS at visualthailand.com

  2. Call true or who ever is your ISP and have them walk through the modem settings with you

Log in to 192.168.1.1 which is your modem's configuration settings and double check all your settings are the same as true is telling you over the phone

    Save the settings

Something is set wrong in your wireless router configuration

By walking through the wireless configuration with True tech support, all your settings will be configured correctly and it will work just fine

  3. The answer is ignorance; stupidity; sex; a tendency to criminality; and an ability to be blind to the polluted environment in which they live.

Many of the farangs who live here are not very intelligent.

    Many have little education.

Many take pride in being able to function in a corrupt environment and boast about knowing the precise bribe to be paid in a particular situation.

    Many think with their dicks.

Yes, Thais in general do not like farangs. In fact educated Thais have told me that all Thais who have daily contact with farangs hate them.

It's quite late, and I've just returned from having a really good meal with friends, so, on that basis, perhaps I'm just about to be a little less diplomatic than I would rather be.

Who on earth is this guy, to disperse opinions on the majority of people whom he's never met? If you're basing your opinions on farangs as:

"Many of the farangs who live here are not very intelligent.

    Many have little education.

Many take pride in being able to function in a corrupt environment and boast about knowing the precise bribe to be paid in a particular situation.

    Many think with their dicks."

I think that's this more an indictment of the company that you personally keep, rather than the average resident expat here in Phuket. Phuket is no different than many other multi-cultural centres in the world, and will always attract elements who don't particularly want to be a permanent fixture. But, there are so many honest, good, sociable people here, both farang and Thai, I for one am very happy. Perfect, no. But, there are not many places on this earth that has the combination of simplicity (if you look for it), sophistication (again, if you look for it), and all round pleasantness that Phuket has. Been said so many times before, but rarely have I felt it so apt to comment 'get a life'.

Let's be a little less liberal and stick with some facts. Aside of Bill Heineke (Thailands 16th richest man) has any other expat ever made a dent into Thai society?

How many expats are here working at a Masters Degree Level or Phd Level job that is not teaching? What percent would you guess?

What percent of expats here are retired?

What percent of expats in reality fit the bill that the original poster is referring to? Here working for 30,000 to 40,000 baht per month and more infatuated with sex and beer?

What percent of expats here are family men, married over 5 years with children?

What percent of expats here own a business that makes at least 200,000 thb profit per month that they can show they are paying tax on?

Anyone can throw out opinions and the rest of the world can argue every single one of them. Does not mean a person is right or wrong or needs to be belittled. He is calling his experience here as he sees it. The experience in Thailand is different depending on which group of expats you fit into. expats, apples=apples and orange=oranges. Apples do not equal oranges.

So one expat here teaching for 30,000 a month will have a completely different view than say a retired expat with a nice retirement package or a business owner making over 200,000 a month.

My opinion is that I always thought I would die in Thailand. After many years, it was only until this last year I have been going over deciding to move back to the USA or not. Here are some things influencing me personally:

    1. Exhorbant price of International School with second rate teachers and 25+ students to a classroom. I am talking ISB, RIS, and the big international schools with a supposed solid reputation. Tuition for elementary grades is between US $12,000 to $15,000 per child. I just feel my son is not getting the education he needs because to much of the classroom time is spent with students who cannot understand English.

    2. Political situation could explode at any moment. The problem with the govt is their actions influence investment and monetary rates in Thailand. There is more effort from the govt fighting infighting than solving economic problems and stabilizing the economy and investment.

    3. Lack of quality expat jobs. Years and Years ago they were everywhere to be found, now almost extinct.

    4. Corruption in Business at all levels and its getting worse each year.

    5. VISA process is essentially the same whether you are a drunk tourist here for 90 days, a bonafide business owner paying tax or a married man with a family. But lets be clear? This process effects white caucasion westerners only. If you are Korean, Chinese or Japanese and want to move to Thailand, the red carpet is put down and you can buy any dam_n thing you want in this country.

    6. Driving with the worlds worst drivers and being stopped almost daily around the city at the different "Police Donation Checkpoints". Speaking of which, a country where laws and the courts can be bought and sold at will is a dangerous place to live for any foreigner. Justice will not be served in most cases.

There are still many things I like, the weather for the most part, the food, ability to have cheap medical and dental, travel in country quite easy and affordable. But after years of seeing and doing it all, not much left to see or do. For me the decision is what would be best for the family?

  4. Hi is almost impossible for me to access cpanle for my site, and incredibilly slow to uload files.

I ask to my host to upload for me but is a pain, and i have more than 1, and is not really a good option.

basically the url look like this: http://domain.com:2082/frontend/x3/index.html.

Never mind where the hosting is located got in europe and Usa and the problems is the same.

Example now I logged to a cpanel 15 minuts ago and is still loading, often just time out.

    So is a nightmare.

By the way i am in Chiangmai, my ISP is maxnet, in the past I had not main problems, is just like the last 1 month or so.

Please help, if you know what to do.

I am trying to contact maxnet, but some times, when they say because is raining, I start to loose.

So if i know what to say and try to guide may be is better.

    Thanks

The url you are posting is a redirect from your domain name

To access cpanel type in www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel

then it will ask you for the user name and password to access the server Cpanel

once you enter a correct username and password you will redirect to the same URL you posted about. It you are going directly to www.domain.com:2082 the system is locking because of unknown user

That is what I would check first.

  5. Nio, from USA originally, been in Thailand about 6 years now. I have a hobby photo site [visualthailand.com] which has evolved over the past 1.5 years from just photos, to photos, videos, stories, travel reviews, Classifieds, and many other things. It is a 100% free website with no advertising. I started this hobby when I found I was constantly taking photos every where I went and decided to find a place for them. The website has evolved from requests mostly from tourists wishing to come to Thailand for the first time and not wanting to get screwed, so I try to provide real photos, real info and real review.

Ok, honestly I took most of the photos on my website with a Sony pocket digital camera. I later evolved to a Sony H50 for the zoom. I am not a photographer and have no idea now to use a DSLR even though I received one as a gift (Olympus E-300 Evolt) with some nice lenses, but never had a clue how to use it and I guess no patience after getting frustrated with blurry or over/under delevoped attempts at photos.

Hopefully I will have a chance to meet some of you and get some pointers on using a real camera.

    Thanks

  6. I have over 16,000 photos to date of all areas of Thailand at my hobby website visualthailand[dot]com . All of the photos are my own originals. I have taken over 70,000 in Thailand at last count and finally getting around to uploading them all.

I am not a photographer just a point and shoot person. Sorry to say I have lost many million dollar shots not having a DSLR to operate professionally.

I am hoping to find some classes to learn how to use a DSLR and the different lenses so if anyone knows a course in Bangkok please let me know. That is my next step in my hooby progression.

As a programmer, I have developed my own VTscript which allows you to put a photo viewer on your website with unlimited photo catagories and allows visitors to your website to see 1,000's of photos without ever leaving the one webpage. If you have lots of photos and you want to display them on your own site, this is state of art display system.

3rd issue is I am curious to know if I could find any Photographers in Thailand would be interested to take photos for me at locations I dont get around to, put them on a CD and mail them in? I was thinking about 500 high quality photos on a DVD for 5,000 thb? These would be general photos of what the areas would look like, not people.

    Any ideas?

  7. Could anyone recommend a top end hotel (Sofitel etc) in HH/Cha Am?

What kind of price would a typical room be?

    Thanks

Stayed at both the Sofitel Private Cabana's (12,000 to 14,000) with their dinky pool and Hilton Suite (8,000 to 10,000). I choose the Hilton suite because it has a huge outside balcony large enough to host a good party, excellent sunrise and sunset views, fantastic pool, excellent breakfast and restaurants. The bathroom is super huge with separate glassed in shower and tub. 4 poster bed, living room is all glass windows giving a beautiful view at night. It's pricy but you get what you pay for. I would never hesitate to use the Hilton again. As far as the beach, in front of Hilton is fine but when you walk to the right you have to pass through the public area in front of Sofitel Villas that is trashy, but keep walking around the corner the beach is excellent.

  8. The only issue I have with Thai Immigration is that a) They are not armed, and b ) They don't shoot the packs of f^cking Chinesse who push in front of you in the line... :D ...

    Cheers,

    Daewoo

If you are not happy with your so-called 'packs of f--cking Chinese'..(racist).. :) why don't you do something about it., instead of complaining.

FYI, I always make it a point to tell these q-jumpers even if I am in CHINA....and whether Chinese, farangs or aliens...

Sorry but I had a Chinese jump in front of me and when he invited his whole family to join him, I kicked his carry-on suitcase out of the line and I went before him. I think he got the message quite clear with no words being exchanged. This isn't China, even though China owns half the country and they can wait in line like everyone else. I am quite sure he would not try that trick on a caucasion westerner again.

  9. post-91890-1253518229_thumb.jpg

    Hey all,

Been in Bangkok for a few months, and as I hail from northern cali, this city, although i love it, does wear on me and I miss a peaceful hike in nature.

Is there anything nice a short (1-2 hour) bus ride away? Doesn't have to be real hiking either, just a nice stroll in a nice enviroment will do.

    Thanks

Khao Yai National Forest is the best
