1. I have never read such an awful thread with such callous boasts from the OP who seems to take great delight in boasting that he has benefited from somebody else's misfortune.

Enjoy your bargain, I suspect it will come back to haunt you.

Same, I felt sad to read this. Especially the part when he is sending his wife family at the house for protection like they are dogs or something...

    Things always turn around...

  2. As far as I am concerned, and from my view, the BRT, as it now works, does more harm than good. I drive past the Mall Thaphra and down Rama 3 several times a week. On the Southern route in Thon Buri, the BRT lane is designated by a painted line, and by a curb on Rama 3. In the northern direction, it has a curb.

Going south, every taxi, car, and bus fills the BRT lane. In front of the Mall, that is usually the only way to get past as the multitude of other buses and taxis block the remaining lanes as they discharge and take in passengers (who then have to wend their way through the other cars to get to the curb. The only time i have actually seen an actual BRT bus in either direction, it was sitting in the same traffic as all other cars.

Once over the bridge and on Rama 3, the route was rarely congested before. Now it is routinely congested until the Sathupradi Road junction. When you take a three-lane road down to two, this is the result. More so as taxis and the other buses stop in either lane as they will for the interchange of passengers.

On the northbound side, congestion is much, much worse. It is now quicker to use Sathorn and Sapan Taksin to get into Thon Buri.

Eliminating a traffic lane is not the way to go. A BRT should only be emplaced where an extra lane can be built. Then, other buses need to be reduced or restricted. And vehicles discharging or taking in passengers should be strictly limited to the left lane.

BRT's work in other places where traffic laws are better observed and other traffic is not constrained. Unless there are changes as the system is expanded, I see the Bangkok version of the BRT as causing more congestion than relieving it.

Well I live also in the corner of Narratiwat and Rama 3. I have to disagree with you. Every morning I go to work in the Silom area and every evening i come back. I never drive Narratiwat, its been terrible traffic before the BRT and now its same or worst I don't know nor care because there is many other roads to take that are traffic free. Rama 3 to Silom takes me 15 minutes... and going to thon Buri, i always took Saphan Sathorn as there is no traffic in that direction. The traffic is from Thon Burin to Sathorn. So it's not much different. I see the BRT as a good thing for people who don't own a car and needed to go to work by the old bus or taxi before. They now save time and money. Must be also better for pollution.

I drive on Rama3 everyday along the BRT line and never had a problem. The bus also pass every 3-5 minutes. If you want to see the terminal go to Sathorn Narratiwat and you will see how many departures of bus and how many people use it if you really believe it is useless.

I drive a car also but we have to respect others who chose an other way of transportation. I know that many people feel they are more worthy and should have priority because of their car... these are the people who usually cause all the traffic. So many times when there is traffic it is because a retarded driver went into the wrong lane or tried to push at the red light but is stock in the middle and is blocking the other way.

The traffic is not caused by the BRT but by the behavior of all the drivers.

PS: Also the BRT is not using a lane all by itself except on Narratiwat from what i saw. In Rama 3 the lane is open to use by cars except at the station of course...

  3.
btw, where is the investigation about the stolen jewels of the Saudi Prince ? The police had had one of its finest moments there .Wonder whether the Thaï thief is still alive.

probably silenced to keep quiet about who has that piece now

Everyone knows who kept it... but better i moderate myself.

  4. Can we not all agree it depends on two individuals here ? Story ends there. Examples abound that relationships can beat the weather, lack of food, mother-in-laws, and somewhere in Scotland there is probably a Thai girl that cooks deep fried Mars bars to die for...no pun intended.

If ever there was a final word on a forum topic, I'd say the above is it. Bravo.

Maybe... but then, how would we pass time by reading and commenting on people life in a web forum ? Life would be boring if we can't judge the people and argue!

  5. I want to buy a second hand car tomorrow and so need to somehow get 160k from my Uk account. Normally I withdraw from ATMs at 12000 baht per time. I have paid large amounts with my Barclaycard Visa before without problem, but only at a hospital. My wife is not keen to use the card at the actual car dealers for fear of card copying or whatever. If I withdraw from an exchange I think there will be quite a large fee. Any ideas? Would you use the card at the garage?

Hi, having had some experience like this, I don't see why it would be a problem for you to use your card over there. Even if they steel your card, you will see in your statement someone else has made a withdraw from your account, and it is very easy now to get a refund from your bank, as long as you go to the police. All you need to do is make a written declaration at the police and knowing the last place you used your credit card was that shop, apart from ATM machines, it would be pretty stupid of them to copy it, as the police would find out easily...

I would not worry. I got stolen my credit card from a hotel once, they took about $2k and i had no problem getting it all back after couple of weeks. Only 2-3 phone calls to my bank and 1 visit at the police station... And knowing where i had lost it, the hotel got investigated and the investigation had nothing to do with me, it is then your credit card company who will pressure the police to accuse them. I was not involved in the process at all!

  6. I am sorry, but first you start by stating that you are just looking for a local partner to handle couple of responsibilities and that the cost will be very low, almost non-existent... but you finish by saying you are looking for a partner to actually invest in your business idea ?And for such a low cost venture (stated by you) why would a broker be required ?Best of luck!

  7. ... A restaurant is a business. So you must open a Company first and register your restaurant under your company. The government will inspect your restaurant and give you a license to operate it for a small fee. You must also apply for alcohol license. About the sign, its an other permit depending on the sign you are making, if its a big neon one, you will have to pay some fee to local green police if my memory is correct.

But as your work permit, this has nothing to do with opening a restaurant. If you have a teaching working permit or whatever why would it matter ? Its only about opening your company first. That can be done for quiet cheap, and if you need thai partner, just go to a local accountant and they will set up all for you. And for resident permit, that means nothing, why would the local authorities care if the owner is living in Cuba or Thailand, as long as the restaurant is registered properly.

Good luck, restaurant is a fun business and its simple to open but do it the right way otherwise you will have headaches!

  8. Unfortunaly sammy there are a lot of losers and or people that cant make a business work in Thailand , this will be reflected in some of the bitter/sarcastic replies,,but basically you have to be a businessman to have a business,a lot of these types are not and never have been, that they have failed and gone back to sending copy goods to their home country or worse reflects what goes on in many cases, ,i wish you luck in your idea, but Thailand dosent suffer fools and its not an easy place to prosper for foreigners ,good luck

You must be in that category... Because if you had a successful business you would know and be around people who have some success also. For myself every single foreigner i know as a good business, they may not all be making millions but we all have good and bad years.

  9. Hi,

I have been making some research, but hard to find... So if anyone can give me a hint or have some connections with Lead Factories in Thailand, please contact me.

    Thanks a lot.

I would be happy to share details with anyone who can give me a good introduction.

Edit: Maybe I should say Lead Refinery to avoid any confusion. Thanks

  10. If you think you are going to get a better price by "buying in bulk", you won't. Gold prices are set world wide every second. You buy 1 oz or 5 tons, the price is the same per oz.

Completely Untrue, but I would say that, if you think you will get information about this on the internet, forget it, you will only attract conman and scams.

  11. Reports Hint Core Red Elements Resigning after Seh Daeng Was Shot

    UPDATE : 13 May 2010

Reports have surfaced that several key leaders of the red-shirt movement have resigned after Major General Katthiya Sawasdiphol, or Seh Daeng, was shot by a sniper this evening.

They include Veera Musikapong, Wisa Kanthap and Paijit Aksornnarong.

Meanwhile, several key members, such as Weng Tojirakarn, Jaran Dittapichai and Korkaew Pikulthong are considering leaving the movement.

Chicken sh^# bast*^#. Walking out just when they are needed most. How are those women and children who have sat in the sun and rain for 6 weeks supposed to be motivated to fight on if the leaders cave in like this? "fight to the death" my a$$.

Wow, why should you be surprised ? Have you been around Thailand the last 2 months ?

It's just the move that make the most sense, they been using the buffalos and manipulating them....

Why would they continue, now that they see they wont make anymore money from all of this, time to go!

  12. Someone said it was around 40 at Khon Kaen A couple of days ago ,over 105,I'd stay inside all day.

Went to Korat the other day on my motorbike, pulled in at my normal P stop ptt, german guy walks by and asks are you not hot, it`s over 44 degrees now, na, mia pen ria....

Your life seems more exiting then mine, nothing ever happen to me :)

  13. But I am 50 years younger then you guys so I generally go to places for young people. I rarely go to golf or chess clubs. And I stay in the big city 100% of the time. Not in the middle of nowhere, on your girlfriends farm with 2 chickens. So of course I have more interaction with people and more chance to get into an argument. I also drive a car and I drive for maximum fuel economy. And that just annoys most people that wanted just want to go home as fast as possible regardless of safety and regardless of fuel economy/brake pads. There is no passion in driving here. Isn't it dumb that they offer sports car (mazda miata for example) only with an automatic here. What is the point of buying that car or a BMW that is meant to be used for driving if it only comes with an automatic? People are so superficial and bland and it annoys me because it also directly affects my life.

In one of his other post... So You been living here 15 years, i guess you were born here but you had a girlfriend for 10 years ? so you had a girl at 5 years old.

What a life you must have had.

  14. I can't find it now, (we all know how wonderful the search function is on this site) but wasn't there a warning given by the government before all this started that they would not tolerate "foreigners" getting involved in this demonstration ?

Please feel free to correct me if I am imagining this

Just to interpret what the government was saying... They were talking about Cambodian and Burmese who were getting paid (or almost forced by their red shirt boss) to join the protest just to show numbers...

Wasn't about white foreigners. They didn't explain it like this but this was their meaning.

But i wonder about that guy who has no passport... How can he has a work permit without passport ? He's saying he is a teacher right ?

  15. Go to Tesco or Carefour. They have a section where they sell the items that were used for demonstration. You can get good price on 42'' TVs. Just make sure it's still in good condition, but I don't think they give warranty.

I bought and LG for 14K 9 months ago. It was a great TV for the 3 months I used it. Don't know now, as my ex girlfriend decided that everything i ever bought was hers, but it was a HD LCD LG and i was very happy with it for the 3 months.

Samsung may have a slightly better color than LG but you will pay 30% more for almost the same.
