  1. My fiancee and I are preparing to be married. She is concerned she will lose the right to buy and sell commercial real estate if we register our marriage in Thailand. I cannot find any information on this subject. She claims she will lose her right to buy and sell property due to the fact I will be a part owner of the property if we are married, or something to that affect. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks for your help in advance!

  2. <<Just one point on the US being a country of immigrants (as is Australia), that is mainly because the indigenous population was pretty well wiped out a couple of hundred years ago, so any comparison to Thailand is nonsensical.>>

It is true that is was certainly wiped out. It was also "indiginous" for a much shorter period of time, by millions of years, and the population of North America, excluding Mexico was probably never more than 2 million. The indiginous populations has nothing to do with population immigration laws. If it does, it should not.

Most countries in europe, weather they admit it or not, are a mix and match of many cultures, Thailand is a mix as well. I believe this is all political. As is the push to keep new immigrants out of the US. This. nationalistic tendency has less and less place in a modern world

  3. I must say, having very little experience with Tha immigration, or some of these laws. Based on my research, it is simply not worth it. I will probably not invest in Thailand at all. There are beaches elsewhere...I will keep the wife though:-)

I cannot even come there and spend time to see what I want to invest in, no matter the amount, without what seem undo difficulty. Is this the desired affect?

I am rather suprised at the very strong nationalistic tendencies of many of the Thai laws. I say that with respect, it is their country......just seems sort of shortsighted. Also, I the hostility that comes from some of these posts toward foreigners reminds me of some "rednecks" here in the US. Go away foreigner, leave your money at the door...kind of funny. Very isolationist...and it seems futile in the long run....

Having said that...it is a wonderful country, very complex, very interesting, charming people.

  4. Just to clarify, I realize alot of guys have been burned by Thai girls, and maybe vice versa....and that can always happen. Actually though, I do trust her, if she is scamming me, she is not doing so well, I owe her money at the moment. Rare even for the girls in the states. More concerned about learning the ins, and outs, of business in Phucket.

  5. I appreciate all of the advice. I never intended to do anything without a lawyer. I will be married in the states to this girl as well. There is a good chance I will start my own company, just feeling things out.....hate for the entire process to be steered from my signifigant other...I trust her, but, just wanted to hear other opinions, so I can engage in some Dialogue without being totally ignorant.

"Gentlemen" I would be curious to hear some of your expriences...just seems like a good source of steady income.

  6. I appreciate your help. I am not really starting abusiness, she already has one generating a decent income for her....maybe 50-60 k US. I have about 1.5 million baht to bring to the table, and somw skills I think we can use to expand her business, and possibly move into some other areas. She already has taken care of strtup costs, office leasing, and I will live rent free for the short term. I realize 1,00,000 baht would be woefully short to start from scratch. I am looking to put this money where I will get the most bang for the buck. It is not alot, but, it is a sizeable infusion into an existing company. looking at real estate, something steady....not sure what.

  7. Well, I am bringing a botload, to me anyway, over 1,000,000 baht. I trust her...and she actually has her own money. It seems for the forseeable future, I will be on an allowance :o Hoping for us to buy some rental property....working on some other business opportunities as well, she is well connected, which seems to mean everything is LOS.

  8. Well, after some searching I am left with more questions. My girlfriend(Thai) seems to think she will lose rights to buy property under her business if we marry in Thailand. If we do not marry in Thailand, I should be getting an imigrant B visa correct? Then a work permit as outlined in the "10 steps" in this forum? Just not sure which visa to aplly for first here in the US.

I am coming from the US

Bringing more than enough to meet any monetary requirements(I believe)

Just interested in knowing the best way to stay there, even if it means visa runs.

Do any of the new laws enacted affect Immigrant "b" visas? I apologize for seeming so confused. Just looking for the first steps, seems things change so fast.

  9. First, I realize tht this has all been covered....somewhere, but, just have a few specific questions, this forum is really a wealth of information on these subjects.

I have fallen for a great Thai lady from Phucket, she is educated, and has her own business. I am making preparations to move to Phucket, bringing a sizeable amount of money to invest as well I might add. We would like to marry, but, it seems there is no incentive to do that officially in Thailand....se will do it in the US. Is it true that if we marry in Thailand, neither of us can own property?

In short, is there any advantage at all to getting married to a Thai girl? In real terms? I mean as far as the government is concerned? Other than a visa may be easier to aquire?

Thanks in advance. Any comments on my situation are welcome.
