  1. The facts speak for itself. Taksin's era was a time where the economy was at its zenith, inflation keep at bay, IMF loan paid and people were generally happy compare to last 2 years where inflation peaked and GDP was lower than most ASEAN countries. Taksin was touted as the next Mahathir and Lee Kuan Yew. Then the coup and schemers took that all away.

    Thanks guys.

  2. What were in the comparision list? Having lived in KL for 10 years and 5 years in Bangkok, I can easily said that I get more from my Baht than Ringgit. Houses, food, transportation, clubs which are big ticket items are at least 10% more expensive in KL. Got to read the details for a better comparision. Strictly from an actual cost of living comparision, Bangkok is certainly cheaper than KL.

  3. You can't put it any better than the editor wrote' that coup is a cardinal sin in any democracy. The Military job is not to solve political problems. That process belongs sorely on the democratic process. If it is the military role, then we are no better than Mynmar or North Korea. Thailand must have faith in their democratic process and let the world community judge you in terms of fairness. We are not the only country that has a struggling democracy but to short-cut with military coup is taking away the people mandate.

  4. We made it sound like currency can be manupulated and we can decide on its exchange rate. Perhaps rich nations can use their reserves to buy or sell but only momentary and for political reasons. Currencies will yield to market forces. Well unless you peg your currency but that carry a high risks. Even if China de-value double digit tomorrow, that will not have any influence on USA economy and will cause China enormous problems. If Thai companies don't take advantage of its strengthened baht by improving productivity and by hedging smartly and stop hoping for intervention; we will be better off and more competitive in the long run.

  5. Khun Sophon is well known for his skewed point of view and his anti-Taksin stance. He is also very poor at counting. Public at large should be happy that the new packaged Reds are having the voices heard against the numerous undemocratic incidents that have occured in last 4 years. The Sunday gathering was to protest the most undemocratic event that has taken place whereby a democratic process was highjacked by force. Yes, Taksin was corrupt but there is no excuse to strong armed democracy. Events now like freedom of expression and the Emergency decree must be expressed and not kept silence and the Reds are doing just that. So what's wrong with that as long as it is our constitutional rights and peaceful. In the same vein, the black-shirt and the violent ultra Reds should be punished in line with the law. The main-stream Reds have castrated these violent elements and we should not lump them together.

  6. Really do not feel that the Reds would be foolish enough to repeat the mayhem. They can see that their actions have eroded a lot of supporters for their cause and will affect PT chance at next election. The recent peace gestures by key PT executives were all trying to heal part of the wound and forms the new strategy. Jatuporn has openly stated that they will be no more Rajaprasong type protest. I believe that weekend protest will be peaceful as it is important that the Reds show a more democratic form of protest; much to their own interest and bring back the support. The flower at the prison and peaceful dispersal are the new prelude to this new peaceful protest strategy.

  7. For the record, Abhisit is generally recognised as a politician with a good conscience, integrity and clean hands, as opposed to others in the coalition and opposition. He has a strong sense of purpose, with a determination to succeed as the chief executive. He is the only person with any credibility left to ensure a fair degree of public support for his administration. The rest are regarded as a gallery of rogues, and many are crooks.

This is the same problem PM Chuan had, but I think that Abhisit has more moxie. He is the best politician that Thailand has to offer and he needs support rather than constant criticism if he is going to change anything for the better.

Both the red and the yellow leaders are mostly unprincipled opportunists looking for ways to enrich themselves at the expense of the Thai people. Abhisit is not perfect, but he is the closest thing to it around these parts politically .

Spot on, Ulysses. I couldn't agree more.

In the land of the blind, the one-eye man is the king. Unfortunately circumstances in Thailand that there are a lack of credible honest man in politics. If Ahbisit is the one, he is swimming against the tide and his chances of fulfilling his aspiration is close to nil. His leadership has not been tested. Most of the decisions were not made by him. Neither tested is his decision making. Thailand need to break away from this paradigm of corrupt politics. If he stick with the Democrat Party which has been tainted with corrupt politicians, Ahbisit will failed. I like him to succeed and he has better chance if he can form another party and attract honest and non-corruptable people. Thai poeple is sick of the politicians and will find this clean party appealing.

  8. All of the questions that you asked can be found on the internet. However, I can simplified few answers.

    1. Represenative or regional office can be registered in Thailand but can only engaged in non-trading activities

    2. Any foreigner can incorporate an office and performed manufacturing and trading activities in partnership, limited companies or joint venture. Partnership concepts are same in western concepts. Limited and JV must have local participation at 51/49 ratio

    3. Incorporated companies, you are entitled to work permit and visa

    4. I think the registered capital is about 2M Baht (stand corrected).

Hope above of some help to you.

  9. Certainly a Thai coporation is required in your case. Can be 49/51 in favour of a Thai partner/s. You need a work permit period and you can retained the 'O' visa if you wish. You can apply for work permit if you have a legit coporation. You and your partner should have a separate legal contractual agreement on matters like dividends, operation etc. which all Thai lawyers are familiar. I have run my business for 4 years and started in more or less same situation as you.

  10. The Euro has strengthened against most currencies including the USD and sovereign currencies within Europe strengthened in tandem. This came about as the debt crisis of the PIGS countries cool off with all the massive intervention from richer countries & IMF. The feelings are for how long. My thinking is that the economic problems of the PIGS & even UK are much structural and the slow economic recovery will be prolonged; fearing a double deep. EU do not have deep pockets to solve another dip. Therefore made hay when the sun shine. Change the Baht when it's high now.

  11. There are lots of daily & regular coaches that ply the Bangkok-Hatyai route. There is also the train which is quite cheap at Hua Lum Pong Station. From Hatyai, there are private vans & cars that will take you to Sadao. Think it is only 30km from Hatyai. Songkla is fairly well developed province and quite safe. Being there countless times & has yet to experience matters relating to safety.

  12. Did mine long ago and was a good decision. But be warned that not all laser results in 100% correction. Depending on your orginal decree of short-sightedness, there may be correction required after 1st surgery. I still have about 8-10 decree but chose not to correct as it help in my long sightedness clarity. Also chose a clinic with good records and reputation. Some laser have gone wrong resulting in more serious eye problems. Still if done correctly, the benefits outweighs the negatives.

  13. The incompetency of Ahbisit again rear its ugly head. He is only switch on when the problem at the door step. What has he and the foreign ministry being doing all the while to counter Cambodia PR. They should start work to lobby other member countries right from the start and not leave to the eve of the UNESCO meeting. They have now have embarass Thailand by making all those threats and making Thailand looks like a pariah.
