  1. there is a red bus service that leaves lotus sukumvit rd jomtien and complets a full round trip, it takes about 1.45 min to complete and there are about 3-4 running that bus route it cost 20 baht getting on anywhere on route and getting where siuts you or take the round trip for sightseeing if you wish, has a/c.

i try and explain the route>>

leaves from lotus sukahavit and heads east turns right into soi chuayapok runs down to the beach road in jomtien where it then turns right then heads to pattaya stopping for anyone that wants the service, it runs up thapparaya road passing viewtalay condo and runs onto pattaya 2nd road it continues along pattaya 2 rd past big c and the dolphin round about where it takes the road to Nakulia, then after passing the markets there it heads up to sukumvit road where it turns left heading to Lam chabung, it does a u turn at the overpass or the (road that leads to rayong), and heads back to Lotus in Jomtien via sukumvit road.

i find this red bus very good service has air con no hassles and 20 baht for as long as you like.

they are suppose to run every 30 min or so but i am not sure.

  2. my two bobs worth,

tony's has a dog pound near the end of jomtien beach road, (tucked behind a restaurant side lane), there are about 3-4 thai guys that look after the dogs daily,

when a dog arrives to be pounded it is vaccinated immedately,

and place in the what they would class as the most appropraite kennel cage. (as they have 3 or 4 different sections)

these guys as far as i know work under the direction of tony (the gym owner)

he has sort farang sponsorship from business owners also the council is involved as they regularly send vet's down to the pound to carryout castiration etc. so if you really want to help go down there have a look and donated, also there is a truck allocated to pick up strays but you must remember these guys don't have and protective gear, so would you like to donate some protective gear for these guys to get the dangerous stray dogs that we all complain about.

the guys at the pound a great people and are always helpful, also you are welcome to take dogs that you can catch and place them there i have caught about 6 so far, they ask me to donated the for vaccine which i am happy to do, i mainly focus on stray female so they are sterelized it will help with control.

hope this helps those that want to help but don't know where to start.

i use to go and take food etc there regularly but it broke my heart to see what condition some of these dogs are in so i have stop going.

    forgive my spelling mistakes

    regards

    from a dog lover

  3. i was shopping and walk passed a police officer, immediately i drop my shopping bags and walk on, becasuse if i continued on with my shopping,

i could be deported for carring out manual work, so i though how to get around this, yes i know hire a thai to delivery my shopping, but then i thought if i give him my shopping list and he didn't like me he could take this list to thec police and i could be deported for doing bookwork,

so i thought time to leave thailand and move to another location in asia, but when i thought about it,

when i get to the airport to fill in the departure form i could once again be arrested for doing book work in thailand, so i am unable to leave also.

so the only option open is to give my self up.

    he he he

  4. Hi,

My GF applied for her Thai passport several months ago and she has not yet received it from the Thai authorities.  She applied at the Chiang Mai Thai passport office.  She was born in the Mae Hong Song area...

Several months seems overly long to me and I would like for us to perhaps go abroad over the Xmas holidays...

Does anyone know what the typical wait time is?  I had another friend who only waited 3 days for her passport (she was from Isaan if that matters...)

My current GF (who is very honest...) was born and raised in Mae Hong Song and I was wondering if that makes any difference...  One concern that I have is that the local bureaucrats may discriminate against the folks from the "back woods"?  I am worried that she is getting the "old jerk-around"...  ?

Maybe my worries are groundless.  She tells me to be patient (dong hai oton na ka?) and to remember that Thais are slow...  (I think they are holding out for a bribe from her...  Maybe?)  What's the usual procedure???

Would it be faster to make the passport application in Bangkok instead of Chiang Mai?

Any comments and advice are greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks!

    dseawarrior

you should get the passport mailed back to her address within 10 working days

  5. i will give you my example:

i was planning to retire next year and was thinking of putting my money in a govt pension fund which work's out if i lived in australia i could draw up to 25,000 per year.

with the first $6000 free and the balance at tax of 17% up to $21,600 then the remained at 30% up to the 25,000, but the govt offer you a 15% rebate so all in all it works out that i would not have to pay tax on (up to $25000)

but here is the change that has just come into play.

if you live overseas for more than 183 days of the financail year, you will be classed as a non-resident for tax purposes which means that taken the same example as above you will pay tax from dollar $1 at 29cents in the dollar up to $21,600 and 30cents for the remaining $3,400.

so if i prefer to live in thailand on my retirement after having worked and paid taxes from the age of 15yrs to 57 yrs(42 yrs)

so if i want to live on my own super saving i will have to pay around $7200 tax on $25,000 therefore leaving me with $17,800 for living in Thailand.

but if i live in Australia i could have the whole $25,000 tax free.

so the only way around it i see is spend 182 days in thailand and then return for ther other 183 days, every year,

and or take you money from the superfund on retirement and find a good fund that can offer you a extremely good return that you can pay their tax that the aust govt want to rip off you for not staying.

work for 40yrs here in aust now i want to retire with a little bit of money i have in super and they want that tooo, shame shame i say.

anyone with any better thought's to

  7. hi there Richard, thanks for your comments but i really think you have taken me and my comments out of context, i cannot rememeber saying that thailand is the only place you get rip off, i said that you are not on a level playing field and i maintain that. also i don't remember saying that i have been rip off all the time, in fact i said i have seen plenty of farangs getting rip off. and i also maintain that, and it all was because i was commenting on the guy(german) that has now been blacklisted,.

and i made comment about cops and helmet booking, just one day Richard go to tourist area like pattaya and watch the cops when they are on patrol looking for helmet booking, and tell me that they book as many thai as they do farangs, thank you from chris.

ps my last comments "ï would like to see that""

  8. It is usually one's own paranoia, fear and negligence that makes one a victim which goes for Thailand as any other place in the world from richard,""

sorry richard but you are very wrong,

you don't need to have any fear or negligents for that matter to be shafted by a thai, you say you have never been shafted, sorry i find that hard to believe, whether it be for 10 baht or 10,000 baht you have been rip of one time or other, unless of course you get a plane there sit in you room until time to leave.

so no i am not paranoid or negligent nor have i been rip off big time, but i see it happening in thailand repeatedly, and it is just the farang that it happens to, and not there own, and cops are the worst offender. to say i haven''t been rip off big time is correct but never the less i have been rip off. which would not happen in my country in the same way the thai does business.

  9. i think a good point has been made here.

    1. the girls in bars know the ropes

    2. know the police

    3. know who to talk to,

4.and know how to get money.

if it become to big a problem to the girl, and the police,

they simply make it a court matter.

how many times have i seen police doing checks on helmet, and the thai drive straight by but the farang gets caught,( or if they are seen to be doing it right, they pull over a thai and chat with them)and as soon as a farang comes by they wave(no ticket issued) the thai to move on.

so the point is you are in thailand no even playing field here it is all one way, so like it or lump it if you put your self out there you are fair game for some corruption. and it goes on all day everyday somewhere in thailand, and there are thai people waiting for the next victim.
