  1. I have recently returned from a UK trip with Thai airways, they were at the time the best price and timings, 78k for the 2 of us. Food and crew good apart from breakfasts which were both dreadful but a good trip overall and about 6k less than Emirates on this occasion. One thing I did like was aa new proc at Heathrow, it took us just 25 minutes to leave the aircraft and get through security to pick up the luggage where the staff had removed the cases from the carousel, a simple but time saving job. Thai did a good job on this flight with a 777-300ER pretty full to LHR but a some empties coming back. I looked today for my next year trip, prices at 43k each and claiming that return seating is either full or almost full. Emirates were 37k with a good choice of times and dates so I might be looking there. Qatar times are ok but even with using 59k of my avious points they still require 49k BA still not flying the route switch to Qatar ( who are the major shareholder in the IAG group ). With the trouble in the middle east I cannot see oil prices coming down in the near future and a return to pre covid airline tickets seems a long way off.
  2. I tried the telephone number as mentioned in the DM article with no success, after the announcement that I had reached the DWP the call was disconnected so will now write to them.
  3. An interesting article and the telephone number is not the one I already had. Its interesting reading some of the comments from people in the UK, some real hate there and I do find it odd that a lot use the reason of not circulating our pension in the UK economy, do they think UK pensioners who moved to the EU or the USA come to shop in the UK! They also seem to think that we do not pay tax in the UK same as they do and what do we get for it? Ok all set now but blimey the prices for flights and hotels is staggering from pre covid times.
  4. Thank you for the last helpful comments and hot and sticky lets hope they do not lose today, I have a photo of myself with the 1980 European Cup an the wife with the 1979 one n the boardroom at the City Ground.
  5. I gather that I can get my pension increased whilst in the UK for a holiday, does anyone have any experience of the procedure? I see a number of telephone numbers but not sure which is the one to use and when do I make the call here in Thailand or when I arrive in the UK? What information do I need to have to hand other than arrival and departure dates? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  6. Applied for the UK visa 13th March, passport arrived today with visa, 24th March, so being told 3 weeks not a bad outcome.

  9. That is enough? I was going to do that anyway, thanks.
  10. I am filling in the Visa application and am stuck one one question and I hope someone can help me with it, the document required is as follows:- "Provide Evidence that your sponsor is not, or will not be in breach of UK Immigration Laws at the time of your visit." What are they asking here, I have never been in trouble with the Police or Immigration both here or the UK, how do I answer this question? I appreciate any helpful answers, thank you. Nong38

  19. She s 96 let us not forget and she cannot go on forever, sadly her day will come like it will for all of us. hopefully she will have some good days yet, she has been a fine example to all and we are unlikely to see her like again.
  20. When my friend died his body was held a morgue until the cremation at a local Wat could proceed, although he lived with a Thai lady his next of kin lived in the USA so the US Embassy in Bangkok were the go between, as I recall the US Embassy had a list of facilitators who deal with these events on behalf of family many miles away. The next of kin were not coming for the funeral but gave permission for it to go ahead whilst the facilitators on behalf of the next of kin collected his worldy goods for transport to the USA, one of the tripping points was his Thai computer, different voltage and different script, his former wife really wanted it can't imagine why. The body can be kept in the morgue for as long as necessary there is nightly fee but its a small amount whilst the way ahead is agreed.
