You are wrong about the reciprical issue, only a few countries are involved its more an issue with clause 20 of the Pension Bill which comes up every year in the House where our MPs have to agree to keep things a they are, which means no inflation increase, if the MPs voted to re instate the increase for ex pats pensions in the majority of countries then it would reverse the current situation. What tends to happen is that Sir Roger Gale and his small band of supporters cannot get enough support to make the change.
It is worth bearing in mind that this virus issue came out of the blue and many UK pensioners were left stranded in overseas destinations, not all of them will get their annual increases in April and might be shocked by it, especially if they have informed the DWP that they are stuck abroad and worried about continuing to receive their pension.
What this issue overall tells us is that no one knows what is round the corner. We expect tomorrow to be like today why would it be different? As we see from the past as pointed out by Build766, financial crashes, Brexit and the virus all have effects we could not have foreseen happening or the consequences coming afterwards, If it tells one thing it tells us that life is on a knife edge but no one notices.

If you are happy with the government collecting and storing such data for the duration of the pandemic (in other words forever) go ahead and install it, otherwise stick with the less invasive ThaiChana app.
They obviously have a copy of 1984, just happening a bit latter than planned.

There is no evidence that lockdowns work all they do is defer the problem and it has to be dealt with at a later date usually by someone else, a great idea for politicians.

The reason I asked in the first place is that when I looked on google maps it was still showing he old address.

It would be handy if somewhere on this site if the new address of the British Embassy is printed and also nearest station, directions etc please dont assume that everyone is familiar with Bangkok and how to get around the place.

The more you test the more you find. Cases are not deaths, 99% recover and you need to take the figures in context, the number of deaths compared to the total population and the annual total number of deaths, it might also be worth looking at the number of deaths due explicitly to the virus compared to the number of people who have and will soon lose their lively hood. So far in the UK 819,000 have lost their jobs and when the furlough finishes that will be enhanced by millions, lives affected.

There is no evidence that lockdowns work all they do is postpone the problem and no Government has ever defeated a virus, they are constantly mutating, we are going to have to get used to living with the virus, the same we do with the flu and we have done with SARS, Bird flu and all the rest, the alternative is an unpredictable future with a reduction in our freedoms, an increase in Government power over those freedoms, a lot businesses closing, people out work and a very different future than we saw last year at this time.
Once Governments have powers they rarely give them back.

I like the bit about foster trade ties and to seek ways to provide more convenience to traders, if only they could adapt that to tourists arriving they might get more interest in coming to Thailand instead of creating more obstacles.
-
What is required to make tourists think about coming here, there is nothing for them to come here right now, too much is closed and what is open is not always what it seems, restaurants selling food to customers that is past its sell by date, out of the blue " no alcohol today" days, there are 24 on the cards for 2021 and no doubt there will be mores surprises to come. Quarantine is another reason to put you off. Special Insurance requirements do not help either and there is the exchange rate, not much we or tourists can do about it but the Government might, they talk a lot but nothing happens so there are many more options for a tourist than to come to Thailand. when things do start up again which I think will be slowly in about a years time, he says optimistically, then tourists will have the world begging them to come to..........xxxxx, Thailand needs to understand the word competition.

Of course private functions could be booked for work break-ups. Doubt open sittings for xmas dinner a week early though.
Isn't that like asking where I can celebrate New Years Eve in Pattaya on 24 December...oh wait, that's every day of the year ????
You can roast dinners as per Sunday most days of the week now so the extension to Christmas fayre was a natural progression, if you are an Aussie and not been to the UK there is no reason you would ever know but the Wetherspoons chain of pubs usually start Christmas foods about the middle of December which included also a Christmas range of beers as well, must be something we English enjoyed without telling the rest of the world.
Central Festival, Central Grill are doing a Christmas menu which you need to book for, 3490 bts. I am back in the centre of Thailand now, so it will be chicken and leg of pork with all the trimmings apart from PARSNIPS!!

To the OP, why would you think Christmas lunch or dinner would be available in Pattaya between 17-19 December?
Where would this be available anywhere in the World on these days?
When I lived in the UK Christmas food was available from the middle of November, that was a couple of years ago so I thought it just might be in the expat centres, but clearly not from what I have seen around Pattaya, 24th and 25th only.

I think there is a category missing or the second one is the wrong way round. I believe the insurance is more appropriate to the short term visitor, the largest percentage of defaulters are people on holiday.
Those here on a long term basis should have the option to meet their own expenses.
Spot on!

The reciprocal issue is a red herring used by the UK Government to ward people off the issue, the countries it has arrangements with are ad hoc at best with no logic to them. To upgrade the overseas pension of expats requires the changing of clause 20 of the Pension Bill, it can be done but so far the political will does seem to be there apart from a small number of MPs led by Sir Roger Gale who cannot convince the majority to put things right. 600m quid is far too much and then suddenly find 40b quid for a bad dose of the flu, if you look on the UK pensions thread you will see what its all about.
