...A 10kg homemade bomb with an alarm-clock detonator and hidden in a fruit basket sitting on a scale went off at 6.10am in front of the deserted Niyom Pochana restaurant at soi 2 off Charoenkhet road....
Maybe they were aiming for 6.10 pm, but planted the bomb in the early hours of the morning.

Drama Queen,
You will get better information and help from Thai/Asian community in California, possibly from someone who has had simmilar experience like you. There is a Thai newspaper called Siam Chronicle in Los Angeles. If you call and explain your situation, they will raise some fund for you as Asian communities there support each other.
Even if you find a job, since your daughtor is still young, you will probably have to hire baby sitter and then most of your minmum wage income will be taken away for child care. You need money to start new life but that's the dillemar.
Returning Thailand will be the last card. I don't think it's easy to get a same type of entry level job at your age unless you are willing to work for very basic dead end job. I do have a toll free number of Thai newspaper in LA, so if you need it, please inform me.
Hang in there. I hope the luck is on your side!
And I hope you read a bit more carefully in the future. You are wasting your breath/bandwidth/internet time. This thread is two YEARS old. Get it? Drama Queen has been and gone.

..."Obscene acts with a child" can lead to up to 12 years in prison while child rape carries the maximum penalty of death before a firing squad.....
Now we're talking!!

Looks like my speed! I'll definitely give it a try. There are just some things about Windows that really drive me nuts and this is one of them (lots of others I have figured out how to stop--like error reporting) Thanks!
I'm curious as to why it drives you nuts. If you tell us which mail client you use - Outlook? or Outlook Express? - maybe we can suggest other options. I know in Outlook Express there is an option to mark mail as 'read' after it appears in the preview pane for a time. And you can adjust the timing. Maybe yours is set too long? I rarely see that message because all my mail gets marked as 'read' as soon as I read it.
I guess what I am saying is, maybe you are shooting the messenger rather than fixing the problem (sorry for the mixed metaphors ).

Ring the bell in bars - makes you popular and very lucky!!!!

What I want to know is how does the computer know you have unread mail before you've even connected to the internet?
Heh, heh! Spooky, huh?
(I think it's "unread" in your Outlook/O. Express inbox on your computer ).

Does anyone know what happened to Tara and her daughter?
3 posts and then nothing.
XXX did she ever contact you?
Just curious as I missed the OP back in '03.
The answer is surely - phone home and then go home.Admitting mistakes and asking for help from our families is not easy, but surely easier than this sorry tale.
Er.. please see above re. the year.

Strange - my g/f had to call a special number to get her melodies set up. Seems unlikely that you get this service without asking for it. Maybe as thai-lover said, you need to read the small print or get someone to read it to you.

<snip> No need to quote the whole da.mn thing Burns! < RDN
Some good advice from Scamps....
Thanks for cutting out my comments that were embedded in the OP.
I see quite often where multiple posts are quoted without embedded comments, so why did you snip mine?
BTW didnt see the need for the caustic and aggressive comment either and please call me Burnsie not just Burns.
Oops, sorry Burnsie . I do check about embedded comments, but clearly missed yours. I thought the bit in green was your only comment. Sorry - can't get 'em back either.

I've never heard of this publication- The Manfarang...

zone alarm is a firewall - highly recommended and there is a free version for personal use ...
They've now branched into the anti-spyware and anti-virus business with their "ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite", which is not free. I guess that's what smo is talking about.

Driving in Thailand...
Three days ago I saw an accident in Chalong, Phuket. A car passed me on the left at the main roundabout - circle - in Chalong. It was a sports car, low profile tyres, lots of writing on the rear window - clearly a company car. At the roundabout it shot forwards into a motorcycle coming from the right. It actually hit the motorcycle when it was directly in front of the car, so maybe the car driver was blind. The motorcycle had "right of way". (Yes, I know, but there ARE signs before the roundabout saying "Give way to vehicles on the roundabout"). Fortunately there was a policeman directing traffic who saw the whole thing and took control.
Yesterday I saw an accident in Phuket town. Traffic was stationary up ahead of me, so I didn't move forwards when I saw a car waiting at a soi to my left. He wanted to turn right and very slowly crept forwards. As he inched his way forwards I heard a screeching noise from behind. A motorcycle doing about 50 kph was skidding its way along the middle of the road and into the car waiting to turn right. Now that takes nerve to drive at such a speed, overtaking stationary traffic in the middle of Phuket town. Or maybe it was stupidity.
I've been out again today, but not seen any more. Maybe later tonight.

See you later, cwilliam.

Unfortunately in my experience, a term many people think makes them somehow better than other foreigners. Also on the lines of if they have been here longer you. And in addition it seems to come with alot of home country bashing.
Not very positive I know.
So how long have you "been here", and are you an ex-pat (working, retired or just 'of independent means') or are you a tourist? I'd like to put your "experience" in some kind of context.
-
Does this mean we will not see any more "reenactment" photos and vids?? I kinda got a kick out of them
The TV companies know that - and probably got charged some tea-money for being allowed to film them.
-
That's not strong - there was a 6.2 there last week.

Click on "My Controls" (top of page), then under "Options" (left pane) click on "Email Settings".
Where it says:
Enable 'Email Notification' by default?
If ticked, choose default type:
...select "Delayed Email Notification".
If this is already set, then I don't know what else to suggest.

Write post in Microsoft Word, use spellcheck, read through post, edit, then actually post.
Or use Firefox and the spellchecker extension.

There is an acronym "YHBT". I think I should say it to myself, too.

Thomas, try disabling adblock for a bit and see if the functions come back. I had some buttons and emoticons disappear and it turned out to be the adblock ruleset. Once you do that repost with the results and we'll go from there.
cv
Removed adblock now let's see:
Firefox is, without doubt the best browser.
Thanks alot cdnvic - you have solved the problem.
//Edit: I have also noticed that the full use of the back arrow has returned - more than compensating for the loss of adblock (which had limited use anyway). Thanks again to the Maple Leaf.
Thomas, you may find this information useful:
Re-install Adblock, and make sure that the following scripts are NOT blocked:
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/jscripts/ipb_bbcode.js
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/jscripts/ipb_global.js
Those are the scripts that MUST be allowed to get all the functions to work. You can then happily block the logo and other stuff that simply chew up bandwidth.
ALSO, you should only rarely need to use the "back" button in Firefox. Install "TabMixPlus" from here: http://tmp.garyr.net/beta%200.3/ . The file is called "tabmix0.3b2005111801.xpi". Later versions will have slightly different names.
Let me know if you want installation instructions.
This extension allow every web page you open to be opened in a new "tab". No need to go backwards or forwards - just click on the tab which has the label of the web page you want to see. When you've finished with it, click on the tab's "Close" icon to close it. Then you instantly return to where you were.
I promise you, once you start to use it, you'll wonder how you ever browsed without it.
(OMG, what have I done? Even more Merton posts? )

Hi RDN,
Some answers to your questions:
1/ uniKode was first built for my own learning. So i designed it to match my learning book: Easy Thai, An introduction to Thai Language. I followed its phonetics system. For the vowels i just found it easier to remember the sounds they give than their names. But in a next version I'll update the tooltips and put the real name also.
2/ ์ mai thantakhat, karan indicates silent letter
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_alphabet#Diacritics)
So two names for the same symbol.
3/ actually the symbol garan on screen is not so different from the one it produces: it's just a police size question. On uniKode the symbols were purposely set at a size of 24 and in bold moreover (easier for a farang ). Try to change the size of the symbol and you'll see.
Just for information:
I'm thinking to add a plugin to this keyboard. It would be a kind of dictionary the user may update. This dictionary would be used like the auto-word-completing system you have on your mobile. Well we'll see...
Thanks for your reply and the answers you have given. However, I still think the garan on your keyboard is quite a bit different from the symbol it produces: vs. but I think it's probably because I am not used to the symbols that I need them to be exactly the same for me to be able to recognise them. It's similar to not being able to read someone's handwriting because the "style" of their characters is not what I am used to.
Thanks again for for the product.
