  1. Just watched  Top of the Pops on BBC prime where they had a fantastic retro-spective of former acts.  Not one of them were lyp syncing, oddly enough (or at least nowadays that is odd).

The Who with Keith Moon:) "we won't get fooled again", T Rex "get it on",  Moody Blues and on and on.

The key 'present day' act was "West Life" with yet another insipid, whining, boy band drivel number which was lyp synced and induced vomitting  :D

Makes one really appreciate the energy, originality and passion of the bands of old. Are original music & pure passion a thing of the past??? :o

Actually, that was "Sounds of the 70's" that followed TOTP. I thought it was an excellent episode too - nice to see Keith Moon in action and to hear the Moody Blues singer (forgotten his name). The Stones and Faces were on too. (Much better than last weeks episode when they showed Gary Glitter - what a bunch of dick heads there are at the BBC).

But what really annoys me is that the BBC appear to have thrown away lots of the 60's recordings of TOTP, along with many of the classic (well, NOW they are considered "classic") TV series. Morons.

    Alcohol sale rules tightened

PHUKET: The hours when alcohol may be sold in shops and supermarkets are to be shortened with effect from January 1, 2006, the Phuket Provincial Excise Office has announced, after receiving orders from Minister of Finance Thanong Bidaya.

From New Year’s Day, sales of alcohol in retail outlets will be allowed only between 11 am and 2 pm, and between 5 pm and midnight. Currently, the evening sales hours are 5 pm to 2 am.

In addition, shops at gas stations will be barred from selling alcohol at any time, as will shops “near” schools or places of worship. The term “near” was not defined.

  3. ...On a lighter note last few weeks has been quiet on the farang death/robbery front. :o

In Phuket, it's going the other way....

Dutchman rams gunmen into power pole

PHUKET: A Dutchman turned the tables on two men who allegedly fired a gun at him as he drove his pickup along Chao Fa West Rd yesterday morning, chasing them down and ramming their motorbike into a power pole.

One of the two men was killed, the other seriously injured.

  4. So, I've just got my lap top back from the repair shop who kindly cleaned out the coffee I sprayed into it, but I still can't wipe the silly grin off my face. :D

The really funny thing is, this could actually happen!

...We must ensure that we follow correct town planning regulations and make sure that any construction is done within the correct zones...

"Zones" ??? In Phuket??? What is this guy on?

...the monorail ... would need to cross private land....in 2001...The three consultancies then studied the PSU report and were drawn to the monorail solution....

So who has been buying up the land between the airport and Patong, I wonder? :o And who's going to to have a friendly chat with the tuk-tuk/minibus Mafia? Kevlar strongly recommended.

Personally, I think they should spend the money on an escalator to nowhere. (Or 50-foot magnifying glass).

  5. Perhaps we are close to a definition.

The rich or pensioners are the closest to immigrant status in that it is highly likely they will stay until their dying day (or until they prefer doctors who speak their own language).

The rest are ex-pats because regardless of length of stay or intentions, they almost inevitably will be forced to return "home" at sometime.

    Do you agree?

Rather than "What makes an ex-pat an ex-pat" why not ask the much more relevant question: "What makes a troll a troll?" :o

  6. THE EXCISE DEPARTMENT WILL REDUCE HOURS IN ALCOHOL SALE

Director General of the Excise Department Mr.UTID TAMWATIN (อุทิศ ธรรมวาทิน) said he will re-adjust the hours of alcohol sale to only midnight. The new regulation will be enforced early next year.

It's got to be a joke - the guy's name is an anagram of "Aid mutant wit". :o

  7. ....Telephone services providers have offered no explanation for the glitch, which has the effect of temporarily rendering useless an important paid communication service....

Of course not, this is a similar approach to that taken by UBC after the tsunami - cut off the customers by scrambling their signal, and when they complain about it say "Oh, you're still alive then? OK, we'll unscramble your signal". Customer service, Thai style.

  8. You can get Stones Ginger Wine in Villa. Not quite the same drinking it here instead of after coming in on a wet and windy evening though. Could turn up the aircon to tryand replicate a British winter..............

Thanks for that - it's going on my next bkk shopping list. :o

  9. ...and you'll wake up ready to slit the throat of anyone who upsets you. DON'T TOUCH IT!!!

Speak for yourself RD', I'm meek as a lamb on it mate, it's WITHOUT it that on a bad day with lack of sleep I'm ready to bite somebody's adam's apple out. :o

Not me, but someone I knew who used to come out in an itchy rash after eating very spicy som tam. The doc prescribed it for her so she could sleep. But it contains an anti-depressant too, so the after-effects for some people can be pretty bad.
