  1. Many thanks everyone for taking the time to help/advise.

I'll be over in just over a weeks time :o will bear in mind what you've said & look into possible options.

& will ask you again if needed once in CM. I'm fine helping people on a Thai travel forum...but a newbie when it comes to day to day living in Thailand.

  2. Thanks for replies.

I know difficult to pass comment when info so sketchy.

Ajarn, the figure you gave for a bed was helpful, in that it gives me some sort of idea.

Our Thai friend who has done a GREAT job taking care of construction told me the price. Knowing her I know it would be of good quality. I just wanted to confirm with you guys that the price was reasonable...& your replies seem to point that it is.

Unfortunately we have to sort out before we arrive.....or nothing to sleep on :wacko

Oh will check out Pie place on way to Chiang Rai, as we're taking a drive up there.

    Thanks

  3. Hi again all,

At the moment I'm building a small resort Mae Taeng area.

So far everything has gone smooth....amazing since I'm 6,000miles away in UK.

Now I'm coming over end of the month & will be staying a few days in my building site, with one of the rooms completed.

Therefore need to sort out furniture before I arrive.

I've been quoted 35,000bt for king size bed,2 bed side cabinets, a closet & a coffee table- made from teak.

What do you think??? sound reasonable? Not sure if this includes a matress,I suspect not.

Bearing in my mind I'll be buying quite a bit of furniture when I come out to do the rest of the rooms.

I don't mind if not in teak, so long as all good quality & well made.

Thanks for keeping me up to date with all CM news....Love it.

  4. I know what you mean re security on compound, obviously important.

But one of my fears is living on a compound, & getting in some sort of a rut & ending up being afraid to leave it!! :o

Off the top of my head I'm not sure of the sort of plot most houses are on in the new developments. Most of the ones we looked at seemed pretty small.

Overlooked & if you've got noisy neighbours.......!!!

Think it was Chanchao who posted about a plot of land he was interested in & if anyone fancied going in with him, good idea.

All the best, keep us posted in the coming months.

    Scottie

  5. Absolutely CTG, the research I've been doing all points to that.

Looking at some of those websites, some of the houses have been on the market for a couple of years!

Definitely a buyers market...I'd imagine everything highly negotiable aswell.

Does anyone know of Mae sa ban doi??? Small project, looks nice...not cheap?

  6. pyrenean mountain dog, that must have a big shaggy coat? Ok with the heat, or severe clipping?

No one had a problem when in forested areas etc. with snakes? seem to remember someone telling me there dog lost the sight in one eye & they were convinced it was one of our slithering friends!!

I'll print out all your advice for reference. Thanks.

  7. Hi Siamruby,

certainly the ones I've looked at are www.homeinpark.com

    www.cat-real-estate.com www.better-homes.com www.chiangmairealty.com

//sabaideal.com/estate/estate.html weird address that one, but plenty on there.

Have you actually looked whilst in CM yet?

& what sort of thing do you fancy, housing project? village life?

I still might build a house on the land I have, but not sure if too far out.

I'm building a small resort/ guesthouse Mae Taeng area & will think again when I'm next over end of Dec.

Hope some of those sites are of use.

  8. Thanks Pluto Manibo. I'll see if our vet knows anything about that quarantine, wonder if that would only apply if coming into UK from certain countries?

Of which no doubt Thailand isn't one.

Ta for advice re heartworm tabs. Guessed there might be a few things like that.

Hope she's OK with all the extra things...& don't upset stomach.

  9. glad you're happy with what you got, & as long as it's affordable & you deem it to be good value then that's the main thing Dietmar.

I've got it all to do within the next year or so!

I did have a look last time I was in CM...Home in Park, QH ( think that was name opp international school ), Laguna, & a couple of developments on Canal Rd.

Many on developments have very small gardens & I would feel a bit claustrophobic.

But I'll take my time weed out the good from the bad, time consuming & tiring but necessary.

Looking on internet, like the look of Mae sa ban doi...expensive but I'll have a look.

Good luck & hope you continue to enjoy.

  10. Hi Toddy,

    many thanks for quick reply.

We have a 6mth old golden retriever & obviously want her to be fine in CM.

Am I right in thinking the only benefit of being in Thai kennel club is if we want to breed from her?

With your dogs, did any of them live in UK/Europe first?

& have you taken any of them back?

Would imagine quarantine getting back into UK would be 6 mths solitary! :o

    Will speak to our vet.

Thanks for the other snippets of info Toddy.

  11. Hi. Going through a whole number of things prior to moving out to CM.

Was wondering, have any of you brought your pet dog to Thailand from Europe, more specifically UK?

If so was there quarantine to go through etc?

Here in UK take dog walking & running in fields belonging to farmers, where do you take yours for a good run & play?

Also last one on this topic......may sound daft......but do your pooches get bothered by mozzies?? :o

    Thanks in advance

    Scottie

  12. Only thing I know about it, is that along with Imperial Mae Ping, it's one of the SAGA holidays hotels.

SAGA are reputable UK based group for OAPs, Mmmmm does that mean it'll be quiet or noisy?!? :o

  13. Hi Chanchao,

it isn't cheap, but well worth it if it's a lovely as you've described.....& the main thing is you like it.

Agree 100% developments are just too claustrophobic.

Great idea to look into a joint purchase, keep costs down.

I'd be interested if it was North of town, as I have approx. 5 rai I bought 18months ago & am building a small resort/ guesthouse up there. & will want to live near (but not too near to it).

    I paid........wait for it........650,000bt the lot.

OK no electric, phone, water etc but at that price don't expect it.

Oh & it did have all the paperwork.

It's going to get more & more difficult getting a nice bit of land, at that right price.

Keep us posted buddy, I'm not back out to Chiang mai til Dec 29, so will be looking at different houses/ land etc then.

    Good luck.

  14. I've been holidaying in Chiang mai for 10 years & still haven't done it all.

Yes you've scratched the surface Kenk3z, but if you like the outdoors loads still to do.

Go North Mae Taeng area & visit elephant camps, then bamboo raft down river.

Also white water rafting around there, & on the Mae Cham at Ob Luang.

Many, many waterfalls.Mae Sa being highly popular. But at Doi Inthanon, there's Vachiratan. Mae klang & Mae Ya ( think I've got the names right ).

Agree with one of previous posters, reservoir North of city is a good place to relax with a beer.

    Mountain biking.

    Trekking at Khuntan NP.

Really an hour any direction out of city, will take you to some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.

Shopping.....not really for me, but some great places to pick local handicrafts up.

    Endless list.

    Enjoy. :o

  15. Many thanks all I'll contact a couple of the places prior to coming out there.

Kids looking forward to visiting the dentist........wow about as likely as a dry Songkran :o

    Cheers

  16. Ah....Le Grand Lanna. That's the one. Well worth it, maybe for a special occasion or something Chanchao.

It was beautiful for lunch & I'd imagine more so for dinner with the lights.

My wife loved the toilets.....must be a woman thing :D

Another place we've lunched at was as Ban nai fan when we were looking at houses. Not sure if the restaurant had a name, but great food in posh surroundings.

A little lacking in atmosphere being as we were the only ones there.

Perhaps a few more people visit in the evenings.

Hey this isn't fair. talking about these fantastic places to eat, while I'm in the UK with ham sandwiches for lunch :o

  17. I'll do that as I'm in Chiang mai for a while. I know roughly where you mean.

Any ideas by the way how quickly they'll be able to look at me......same day, within a few days....?

That's basically all I need check up & clean.

    Thanks

  18. That looks absolutely superb!!

Mid morning here in UK & my mouth's watering for that Thai taste.

    Aroy mak mak.

Great surroundings aswell, we're going there as soon as we return.

Last time we went to a great place towards Sankhampaeng for lunch.

Can't remember the name off the top of my head. Old wooden structure, beautiful ornamental pond & garden. The owner has an old Morgan car.

    Delicious food in lovely surroundings.

I'll find out the name if you don't know, wasn't cheap for Thailand. But well worth it.

How did we get on to this after starting the thread on dentists :o

    Sorry my fault.

    Cheers

    Scottie

  19. That'll do for me Chanchao.

It'll definitely be cheaper than UK prices anyway.

I'm not sure whether they wear a mask here for hygiene purposes,

or so you won't recognise them........daylight robbery :o

Oh by the way in your restaurant review, I haven't seen one for Huan Huay Kaew.

    Is there one????

    Thanks

    Scottie
