  1. As the topic says, I am looking for an electric hair clipper. I had one which ran on batteries but it was not powerful enough and the batteries ran out in minutes.

So the one I am looking for is similar to those you know from hair salons, with a power cable and "length adjustment clip-on" (or whatever it's called :) )

I looked in PowerBuy in Siam Paragorn and then only had the small trimmers for your beard, and only battery powered ones, I went to MBK but gave up being offered an iPad 10 million times, and in Hua Hin where I live I will guarantee it's not available.

So any ideas where to find one? Online or in BKK.

    Something like this one:

  2. Most likely has to do with Michael Dell coming back to the company. Dell was crap for a few years while he was gone, quality going down, and service going from one of the best to one of the worst. I don't know about service but Dell built his business on making high quality products. Dell doesn't invent anything - in fact they're proud of having no R&D budget to speak of - but they used to make some solid computers. Guess they're back to that now, good to know.

I am not so sure about service in Thailand though - do they have service centers here? Do they fix things here?

Dell has excellent service in Thailand, all their laptops come with 1-year on-sire service, so if you have any problems you call them and they will come to your place usually within one day, no matter where you live! I know a couple of people living on Koh Tao who have used this service and the technician showed up within one day which is very impressive. You describe over the phone what the symptoms are and the technician brings all the spare parts he can possibly need, one of my friends on Koh Tao got his laptop monitor changed on the spot, another got his graphics card changed. Very very good service.

If I were to buy a budget laptop today I would buy Lenovo for sure, their cheap models have similar specs to Acers and they are better quality. If I would spend 20-25k I would go for a Dell Inspiron N5010, they come with legal Windows 7 unlike most others in that price range, and decent specs.

  3. Most well known graphics shop in Hua Hin has to be Rinya Graphics, I'm not 100% sure on the Soi number, but I think it's called 47/1. It's direct opposite the Shell station and right next to the big barbeque place with all the blue chairs.

We have used them for everything for our business, signs, banners, flyers, posters, business cards and stamps. Fair prices also.

When you go there you will see how many "big clients" they have, all the golf clubs for example get all their stuff made there.

  4. Yes, Tomat is correct. My wife worked for several agencies in town a few years back and she quit a couple because she is a very honest person and didn't like the way they operated. She ended up working for 2nd-Home for over a year and they were good and honest guys back then. She quit when the slump hit because it was boring without any customers and I think I heard recently that 2nd-Home may have closed up shop or gone into business with a builder to market his development exclusively so they may not do rentals any longer.

Actually they just opened a second office in Hua Hin, so it must be going okay.

  5. If BananaIT has the same prices nationwide they are silly expensive on most their stuff, I know my local BananaIT is that's why I say this. Fortune I believe is a mall in Bangkok, no idea about the address.

For a list of online stores, have a look here:

  6. Does Facebook have any income? ...

What does Facebook offer to their fans which charge money? I think nothing, maybe I'm wrong.

They changed their policy on application credits this year. Before all the application developers, mainly Zynga, were allowed to have their own credit system where you would buy in-game gold (or whatever it is) for real money. Now you have to buy Facebook credits and use those in the game. The application developer of course gets compensated but Facebook keeps a small amount.

Also Facebook has those "virtual gifts" you can give your friends that cost 1$ or something like that, why anyone would ever in a million years would pay a dollar to give their friend an icon of a flower or whatever is beyond me though.

  7. All Windows 7 versions are available in a Thai version, OEM versions that is. The retails products are only available in English. But you can get OEM Windows 7 Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium, no problem.

  8. Question for those who were able to open accounts with passports alone: Was Thai language proficiency also required? Were you able to read/write Thai? - or is spoken & written English acceptable.

Not needed at all, most of the banks have a couple of staff that assists English speaking customers.

  9. When I got my bank accounts created just after I moved here all I needed was my passport. They did not care about visa or anything. Got Kasikorn, SCB and Bangkok Bank accounts all made with nothing but my passport. Had another Kasikorn account made recently, again they just needed my passport.

Only time I have been asked for more than passport was when I got my credit cards, that took more paperwork, but worked out fine.

  10. You can get a Samsung or Asus netbook running windoze for about 8000-9000bht

You might have to get an external USB DVD drive if you really want it.

I would love a Samsung netbook for the missus, where can I buy one running windoze for this price ??

They don't exist, the sub 10k models does not come with genuine Windows on them (if you find one that does, it's most likely because it's a very old model that they need to get rid of).

Cheapest right now with with Windows 7 is a MSI netbook at ~10,500 baht

  11. I would tell you to take a look at some of the 15.6" models from Dell. Their 15.6" models are relatively cheaper than the 14" models and they almost all have 4GB memory, most of the models come in two variations: with/without Windows included. Dell has by miiiiiles the best after sales service in Thailand. They do on-site service for free for 1-year (possible to extend to three years). So just call their service center and within 24 hours one of their technicians will be knocking on your door anywhere in Thailand. I know people from the small islands (e.g. Koh Tao) that have done this, and they come within 24 hours every time.

  12. I know I've been accused of owning this restaurant because I mention it a lot, but it's just that I really like the place. I have no interest in it other than wanting it to succeed so that I can continue to eat there.

Anyway, for anyone interested, Terrace90 is having a traditional American Thanksgiving feast.

    [snip]

I can only second that, I have booked my tickets already. Terrace90 is amazing food. I'm sad though that I hear they are planning to stop the Tuesday/Friday 199 baht buffets and only have buffet one day and at 299 baht. Tuesday at Soi 90 has almost turned in to a tradition for me already :)

And I can confirm that hhfarang is not the owner, I know both him and the owner of Terrace90 and they are definitely not the same person
