  1. I am a regular and happy/satisfied user of Grab Taxi. I was approved for Grab Pay. Utilized Grab Pay for my last 10 trips.

On 8 June I successfully completed a Grab Pay trip for 68 baht from my home to the Loi Kroh area, Chiang Mai. In the AM. My bank was charged and I received my Grab invoice.. On my return trip on 8 June, I booked Grab Car for 68 baht under Grab Pay. In the early PM. The driver picked me up. At my destination, the driver wanted 68 baht in cash. I said that I am on Grab Pay. He said OK and that he will report this to the Call Center. In the afternoon, I received a message from Grab stating that 68 baht is required. To credit their account at Kasikorn Bank. If I do not, my account will be suspended. Please see attached file. I immediately credited the Grab account at Kasikorn Bank around 3 PM.

Since that time I have tried to book a ride on Grab. Unsuccessfuly. I enter the details and Grab searches for a driver. Does not finalize the trip.

I tried removing the app and then introducing Grab again. Does not work. All my profile details, history are there. I also tried using a different e-mail address with no success. But, my account appears to be suspended. It is extremely difficult to contact Grab on line. I left messages under "problems/issues"...No answer.

I like Grab and I wish to get this matter resolved.

    Any guidance/advice from the Forum.

    Thanks

    James

  2. Hello Chiang Mai Forum Members

I am 72 years old. Living in Thailand since January 2010. Presently in Chiang Mai since January 2012.

My Thai Drivers License is coming due in October 2018.

I am aware that when a person reaches 70 years of age that there are certain requirements for Thai Drivers License renewal.

Please let me know what will be required from me for this purpose.

    Thank you very much

    James

  3. First, I wish to thank both "rijb" and "samuijimmy"

I tried what both of you said..I got into the English version. Then i clicked "for education"..

It does not take me to the Apple Thai.. It takes me to an Apple site in the USA. There I am told that I can not order because I am not in the USA.

What do I do now to get into the actual Apple Thai..

    Please advise..

    Thanks

  4. I have seen responses before on Thai Visa Forum - Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Re: Where I could buy an i-mac 27 inch. I posted this topic on the Bangkok Forum and got one reply. From Scott.

I know that I can purchase an i-mac in Thailand. Shipment is made out of Hong Kong or Singapore. I am buying same for a student. The discounted price is close to what I would pay in the USA

I deal with Apple..not sure of the web address.

I hope that there is at least one member who may recall the procedure.

    Thanks again

  5. Hello Forum Members

I live in Chiang Mai. An American on a retirement visa. Since 2010

I have the early 2008 version of a 20 inch i-mac. I am encountering a lot of problem with this old computer with many apps. I can not even load the Sierra OSX on this computer of mine. I wish to buy a new i-mac.

What I wish to have is a 27 inch retina display i-mac. From that basic information, I am confused as to what I should really buy. I use my i-mac for e-mails, skype and other basic requirements. I am not into anything  professional.

Also, I know that I could buy an Apple i-mac under a student price. Where I believe the product is shipped from Hong Kong and that this price will be close to what I would pay in the USA.

Kindly advise me: (1) As to which 27 inch model should I buy, and (2) How can I get the student price.

You have always assisted me greatly and I hope that you will do so now.

    Thank you

    James

My contact is desirous of making contact with both organizations and contact with any other similar organizations.

Please be kind enough to assist me with this information.

    Best regards

  7. Greetings Fellow members

I do understand the Government proposal to issue 10 year visa still needs to be implemented. If anyone in the Forum knows more than what I can find in the newspapers, I would like to know.

    AND

your thoughts if any on (1) initial visa period is for 5 years with a extension for another 5 years. Is the proposed visa fee of 10,000 baht for 5 years ONLY ?? (2) Health insurance - the coverage has to be for what the Cabinet wants. (3) Sorry if my questions are premature.

    Thanks anyway

    James

  8. So many CM Forum Members have contributed to this topic started by me. All of you know who you are - so THANKS VERY MUCH...

To someone like me with little knowledge, I learnt a lot.

Once I establish my firm budget, I will decide which model of smart phone that I should buy.

Repeating my sincere thanks to all of you.

    Best regards

    James

  9. Thanks, WinnieTheKhwai

Your response is greatly appreciated. My knowledge is extremely limited and you have made clear - what I did not know.

So, I wish to buy an inexpensive smart phone - preferably if Samsung has one.

Which model do you recommend ?? Do I go to a JayMart store to buy this or is there a shop that will sell Samsung at a discounted price.

Once again, thanks for the input

  10. I wish to buy a basic Samsung mobile/cell phone. I am not interested in any smart phone.

    Presently I have 3G. I wish to have 4G.

This is confusing.. you want a basic phone (not a smart phone), but you do want to have 4G? And you want 4G on this basic phone in order to .... what? There is nothing a basic non-smart phone does that would make use of a 4G connection, or 3G even for that matter.

Or do you want to share the connection to that tablet you have? Basic phones don't do that, you'd need a simple smartphone for that.

So anyway, do you want to hear something new: No more basic non-smart phones. I was on the Jaymart site earlier today and they don't actually offer a basic non-smart phone anymore, by any brand, not even the cheapo brands.

If you really want one you might still be able to find one at Airport Plaza for example, either an older model that's new, or second hand.

Alcatel I think make a really basic phone for seniors. Not sure that they still have it, or that their target market died out.

  11. Greetings Chiang Mai Forum Members

I always value the input/opinions of the CM Forum.

I wish to buy a basic Samsung mobile/cell phone. I am not interested in any smart phone, Edge nor Galaxy. I have a AIS telephone number and I wish to keep this same number. Presently I have 3G. I wish to have 4G.

Since I use an Azus tablet with high speed internet, I am able to use a SIM ( I have 2 SIM card slots) card when I visit other countries (frequent overseas traveller). Previously I had a 2 G basic cell phone (Samsung) and I like Samsung.

In summary, I wish to have: (1) Basic cell phone with my AIS Sim card - UNLOCKED (2) Since Samsung has so many models, I do not know which model that I should be buying - please help me with the description/model number of Samsung. (3) Any recommendations as to where I could buy this in Chiang Mai.

    Gratefully yours

    James

  12. I live in Chiang Mai. I have used magicJack in USA and Thailand for the last 10 years.

I just purchased the new magicJackGo. Now I do not use my computer. I go directly to my high speed internet. Presently I am using a Fujitel handset.

This handset does not have Caller ID nor messaging. I wish to have both.

I tried shipping directly from USA via e-bay. They shipped a vtech phone one month ago and it is lost in the mail.

I got my money back. Now I need to buy a handset, locally.

I have followed the Chiang Mai Forum and unfortunately, I am not successful in finding the right place (Power Buy), Siam TV or the T. and T Shop at the airport plaza. To buy this phone

I wish to have DECT 6.0. digital technology. Caller ID and a messaging system. Preferably, cordless. I will be happy with any recognized brand. Like vtech or Panasonic. Price is unimportant.

Please help. Like all of you done before.

    Thanks

    James

  13. Hello Bangkok Forum members

From January 2010 to January 2012, I lived in Bangkok and was active in the Bangkok Forum.

From January 2012 to present, I live in Chiang Mai and associated with the Chiang Mai Forum.

My current Retirement Visa and multiple entry permit - both expire on 10 February 2016.

Thai Immigration Offices in Chiang Mai has moved to a new location (since July 2015) in Chiang Mai and they have changed all of their procedures. From January 2012 to July 2015, Chiang Mai Thai Immigration performed with no apparent problems to me at their old location near the Chiang Mai airport. I understand Bangkok Thai Immigration is the same (no drastic changes) since I dealt with them between 2010 and 2012.

My only question to you kind folks is: AM I ALLOWED AND PERMITTED TO EXTEND MY RETIREMENT VISA AND OBTAIN THE MULTI-ENTRY PERMIT FROM THE BANGKOK THAI IMMIGRATION OFFICE ??

    Thanks and Regards

    James

  14. I've got an appointment for early-October, on the fixed-time-appointment system, to get my annual-extension based on retirement.

Will that be at the new One-Stop Promenada-office, or the old location, can anybody tell me ?

Ricardo, I like your report very much. Thanks for your input. I wish to ask you the following: (1) When and how did you make your fixed time appointment (retirement visa) for early October - was it via the Thai Immigration web-site or is there some special web-site for this purpose ? (2) It is 9 September and I wish to make an appointment for January 2016 - your posting dated 20 July states that you got a fixed time appointment for October (that is 3 months ahead of time) ? (3) I would also like to get a fixed time appointment for a Multi Entry Visa ? Please advise and thanks again Ricardo. Best regards, James

  15. Hello Forum Members

Last time that I posted this topic was January 2015.

My renewal for another year of my Retirement Visa and Multiple Entry Visa is coming up in January 2016.

I asked another American friend of mine to go to the Thai Immigration Office near the CNX Airport. He went there and he was re-directed to the NEW Thai Immigration Office at the Promenade Shopping Center. He tells me that the new Promendade Thai Immigration Office - opened in July 2015.

I wish to ask all of you Forum Members the following questions re: your experience with the new Promenade Shopping Center - Thai Immigration Office.

    (1) I used to go around 5 AM to the Old Thai Immigration Office near the airport. Wait until 8 AM when they give out the numbers. Then, I will get my one year retirement visa renewed. After that is done and copies made of the aforementioned renewed Retirement Visa and I will (go back to the office) get my Multiple Entry Visa - towards the late morning of the same day. Normally, everything done by 11 AM the latest. Same day.

    (2) My American friend tells me that the new Promendade Office takes only 10 applicants in the morning and 10 applicants in the afternoon session. A total of 20 applicants only for the morning session and the afternoon session at the new Thai Immigration Office - COMBINED. This sounds absurd because there are more than 20 applicants by 8 AM under the old system at the old location. On any given day at the Old Thai Immigration Office near the CNX Airport.

So, what is your take in this matter..??

    (3) My friend has opted to go with an outside CNX Thai Visa handling operation. I do not want to do that. I want to handle my own Visa Applications. What is different now that the Thai Immigration has moved to the Promenade Shopping Center ??

    (4) I am not interested in the 90 day reporting system at the Promenade Office - only the one year retirement visa and the multiple entry visa.

    (5) Lastly, does Thai Immigration in Chiang Mai still accept fixed appointments for the renewal of multiple entry visas. If so, how do I make that appointment ??

Thanks very much - Forum Members.

    Please respond.

    Best regards

    James

  16. Hello Forum members

Moderator please post this on the Bangkok forum also. Thanks.

All members at the Chiang Mai Forum and Bangkok Forum have always assisted me in all of my requests.

    Here is a new one.

I am looking for the availability of GRASS SEED for playgrounds and fairways. Bermuda grass seed would be the best or any other types of seed suitable for a tropical climate would be desired.

Please let me know the dealers in this product for a fairly big project.

    As always, THANK YOU

    James
