Yes great news mls, and wish you well in your recovery.

As Sheryl has said you have been very fortunate that your cancer was caught early. Was it first detected with a normal chest xray? And i think you previously indicated that you initially sought medical advice for something else that led to the lung cancer being detected. As an ex smoker, i am most interested in your story. Thanks for sharing.

Yes it was picked up with a normal x-ray, then had a chest CT which showed more...

    Thanks for your wishes.

BPH is not usually cheaper than Bangkok Hospital on Bangkok. If anything, the opposite.

There is a government cancer hospital in Chonburi town. Not easy to be a patient at, how3ver (as regards comfort and convenience).

When does your policy year begin and end? As the maximums are often per yrar (check the kanguage though. In some it is per event/illness without a time frame).

Sent from my SM-J701F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

My policy is per 'disability' so per event/illness - not yearly - so limit nearly used for this particular event. I can reclaim again after 90 days without a claim for that particular illness.

Not sure how I'd manage at a government hospital since I know the waiting times can be ridiculous and getting to see the right doctor is not that easy either.

Interesting that you say BPH is not cheaper than Bangkok. Will have to see what the oncologists say and hope for the best. If I do need chemo will have to get quotes from both hospitals. Just don't relish the drive up and down to Bangkok each time.

    Hi,

    The worst is over.

From here on in concentrate on exercise. The most important part of recovery.

I bought a treadmill after my lung op. in 2016 and have used it daily when at home - start small and build up. I only use it in the walking mode (I am getting on a bit -71)

As for the balls - practice a few times a day  - you will soon be keeping all 3 up! -it needs determination and not to give up.

As for pathology - looks like no lymph node malignancy if so very good sign.

Not sure about your tumor type = mine was "non small cell", and was stage1 "cured".

I am currently under going adjuntive (sic) chemo. for pancreatic cancer (stage 1B) moderately differentiated.

Had a whipple operation a few weeks ago. The same type of tumor as yourself. Pathology was mainly encouraging.

However, the oncologist recommended adjunctive chemo for 6 cycles - Monday is the end of the first cycle.

    Take no chances.

The cost of chemo is around 160,000 baht/cycle, (met by my insurance). This in the Bkk Bkk hospital.

No doubt vastly cheaper in Govt. hospital.

    VERY best of luck

    banK

Just had another go at the balls and actually got the green one to move about an inch! So definitely improving.

Sorry to hear you have pancreatic cancer and the Whipple procedure sounds complicated. I've no doubt that took it out of you and the chemo.

If I do need it I have a little left on my insurance for this treatment stage but would hope that if I have it done at Bkk Pattaya it will be a bit cheaper than Bkk Bkk.

Not sure I would trust a Govt hospital.

Good luck with your treatment bankK. I hope it turns out well for you and thanks for all the info.

For stage II onward chemo is definitely recommended, and also often for stage 1 if 4cm or more. for a tumor your size and stage 1 the evidence is much less clear.  Ask the oncologist pointed questions about likely benefit in statistical terms.

Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer.

    Thanks Sheryl,

Will try and get all the information I can from the oncologist.

  5. Actually my limit is per disability and have 3 months then can claim again on the same problem, so the previous claim wouldn't matter, as you say and I should be able to get check ups later.

I will do as you suggest and get clear quotes but if it does exceed my insurance then so be it. More important to get it sorted now than worry about the cost. Hopefully if it's done quickly and everything is removed it should be a relatively good prognosis.

    Thanks again

  6. Hi Sheryl,

Thanks for the information. I do have insurance but only for 1 million baht and have already used 200k for previous treatment at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya of unrelated problem which showed up the cancer. I presume that Bangkok hospital is cheaper than Bumrungrad.

My cancer is very small stage 1 and was lucky to pick it up on chest x-ray, then CT and then PET/CT which I had done at Bangkok hospital so hopefully the surgery will be minimal. I haven't seen a surgeon as yet so will need to contact and find out what can be done and the cost.

Am told that as it is so small the prognosis is good for simple removal.

Thanks for the links. Will follow those up.

Well, looking at the number of stored fabrics it's basically up to the customer by picking the right fabric and color.

When you go down there, please take the size of the thickness of the matress as well.

Thanks for the information. Will go down and have a look.

This is a very simple job. Any seamstress should be able to do it for you and anywhere that sells the material would probably have someone on call. If all else fails, ask a curtain shop. The cost for the work should be minimal or zero as it will take only minutes.

Personally I get all my linen in Europe as the quality is vastly better and the prices vastly lower.

Have thought of getting a curtain shop to make them but the biggest problem is knowing where to buy the material as have never seen cotton bedding fabric available anywhere.

  9. UK mattresses are usually 6ft 3in long not 6ft 6in - Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King seem to be different in different countries so always need to check sizes not just names. The single 2ft 6in sheets I can buy in the UK are slightly wider and shorter than my mattresses and are also narrow on the depth as made for 5in deep mattresses not 6in.

Depends a lot on where the bed comes from as European sizes are different again.

It's a real pain all round trying to get things to fit...

Near the back entrance of TukCom on one of the corners, you will find a quite big store with all kinds of hotel linen.

AFAIK they also produce to order.

Thanks for that info will check it out. If it's for the hotel trade I expect they only make white sheets and I prefer deep dyed colour. Worth a look though.

  11. Am wondering if anyone knows if there is someone in Pattaya who can make up cotton fitted bed sheets to order.

I imported my bed when I moved here and it is has two 2ft 6in (75cm) x 6ft 6in (200cm) mattresses. One mattress is motorised, hence the need for separate sheets.

As all sheets sold her are US sizes the only way I can get sheets to fit (just about) is to order them from the UK from La Redoute but they are not an exact fit either.

Would be a lot simpler if I could get them made here.

Am sure I saw an advert once for someone who did this but I didn't keep any reference to it.

Hope someone out there can help.

    Thanks.

  12. You will need:

2 copies of your passport, entry card and visa exempt stamp

    1 photo

    Completed TM7 form

a letter from the hotel where you are staying or a letter from wherever you are staying with a house book copy. The letter needs to show your name and passport number and the dates of your stay. There is also a form which the hotel or whoever needs to fill in. I believe it is available on Thai Visa.

    1900 baht

If you go to immigration without the necessary documents they will tell you exactly what you need and to come back when you have it all.

Have recently done this for a friend at Pattaya immigration.

  13. Have looked on the wills forum and not been able to find anything.

I need to make a new will to cover my UK assets which cannot be covered by my Thai will.

Unfortunately my solicitor in the UK won't do it unless it's face to face and as I don't go back to the UK that isn't an option.

The only thing I can think of is finding a firm of lawyers here that have offices in both countries. I have seen lots of ads for expat lawyers but would prefer to find someone recommended.

Hope you can help, so thanks in advance.

  14. I come from a family where all the women have suffered early menopause and horrendous symptoms (my aunt is over 70 and still suffers).

I went on HRT in the UK 15 years ago due to my symptoms which sound somewhat similar to your wife's. Hot flushes (that's UK English for flashes) every 15 minutes during the day and at least 2 hourly during the night with rivers of sweat and soaked sheets. Depression, exhaustion and mood swings to top the lot. I had tried herbal remedies first but they didn't work and I was desperate.

When I moved over here I tried to get my original prescription but it just wasn't available and what I was given by the OBG just wasn't working (as Sheryl said, they really know nothing and leave Thai women to suffer). After a lot of trying different things with no luck I was recommended Angeliq by a gynaecologist friend in Malaysia. I have to order it from pharmacies here and it isn't cheap - 1,050 baht for a month - (it's not readily available over the counter).

Although the progesterone element is synthetic it is closer to biological than most others. I tried to find bio-identical but lucked out and considered making my own but couldn't source the necessary ingredients.

One VERY important thing. It doesn't work immediately. It will take 6-8 weeks to show some real difference. I miscalculated re-ordering over the new year and was without it for only 10 days. The symptoms came back with a vengeance and once I re-started it was a good 6 weeks before they went again.

If dryness during sex is a problem the Oestrogen cream does help a lot.

Hope this helps. It's a bit of a bug bear to me as I was once told by a female gynaecologist that menopausal symptoms don't last for longer than 5 years and she was adamant it wasn't possible. Having seen my mum suffer and my aunt and myself, I really wish that she has a hell of a time with it when it hits her!!!

    Good luck.

I believe GAPS is not your final option? Have you ever heard of ForeverLivingProducts? This wonderful company has the highest quality

nutritional and health supplements in the world. Too many testimonials from people who have some digestive problems that take Aloe Vera Juice

on a daily basis and feel relieve. But don't take my word for it, research yourself. www.foreverliving.com; foreverlivingth.com, foreveraloekorat.com

or call 080-459-1824 or 089-240-2067 for personal information. It works for me and many others. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks PaceArrow for the suggestions and pdfs, though looking at the ingredients there are too many additives in those products that are not allowed on GAPS and wouldn't work for me.

    Grateful for your input though.

  16. Hi guys, just thought I'd update on how things are going.

I re-started the GAPS intro diet on 1st March and have taken it very slowly, staying on stage one for almost the whole month.

Things have improved a lot and I no longer have constant diarrhoea but normal stool! Yeah!

Have moved onto stage 3 (stage 2 only adds in egg yolks) and still going well.

Have set up a spreadsheet too, charting what I eat and what my symptoms are etc. which helps me keep tabs on the foods I can handle and those I cant. Surprisingly, even though I no longer have a gallbladder, I still seem to be able to handle the high levels of fat I'm consuming!

I have found an amazing website called 'Quirky Cooking'. It's run by an Australian woman who is on GAPS mainly for her kids who have improved incredibly on the diet, but also for herself. It's full of GAPS/Paleo/gut friendly recipes. She produces podcasts too discussing GAPS and it's implications and how it has helped her etc. It has been a huge help to me as I have been able to get useful information and also know that I am not alone in the things I'm going through. They are lucky in OZ as they can find so much more organic produce that is just not available in Thailand even though a lot of the products are actually produced here, but it seems for export only...

Still searching for good sources of organic foods - would like to know if any of you come across anything interesting around Pattaya. At the moment am searching for cacao/cocoa butter so if you know anywhere that sells it let me know.

  17. I brought my late husband's ashes over 8 years ago as he wanted to be scattered in the Chao Praya in Bangkok. I had them (not quite all as too much) in a stainless steel container in my hold luggage.

Nothing ever questioned and presumably the container didn't ring any warnings when x-rayed. Wasn't actually aware there were regulations for ashes. Bodies in coffins I understand, but ashes...
