When I changed my tourist visa to 'O' a little over a year ago, money had to be transfered. 400,000 I believe. Had to do all the paperwork same as applying for retirement. Not just a matter of going for a new stamp. Then you must do it all again for the extension. If you do this to avoid hassle, just get the 'O' in your own country.

When I lived in Min Buri, My then GF won Bt12,500 in the lottery. The seller refused to acknowledge 10,000 of the winnings. After getting lottery officals and the police involved, it turned out she was not turning in the receipts. She was not seen again in town. The GF got her money from BKK officals. What do you think would have been the result if that happened to a farang?

I also have a Citibank account in the US and I have wire transfered funds via the internet to bangkok Bank without a problem. Perhaps you should talk to Citibank again. The process does require you to verify by telephone the transfer, but you just call them. Immigration accepted this transfer.

My GF won 12,500 thb in a drawing a few months ago. She went to collect and the woman who sold her the ticket told her there was no money to pay her. It seems the woman was never turning in the sales money, just keeping it. The lottery HQ people came to the house, got the story, went to the police, and the woman was arrested. My GF says she has not seen her since. My GF did get her money, they did honor the ticket.

My TGF sells ice in LOS. From what I see at the ice plant, stick to ice cubes. Do not use crushed ice. It is usually made from block ice and is much cheaper. It is only meant to keep wrapped food cool. Here it is made in a different plant than cubes and the water (city) is not treated as well, plus there is more handling. Cubes are much safer.
