  1. Hi Sunbelt,

I just found some information you have provided in another forum after I posted the previous post:

He does not need any Thai employees to get a work permit unless he sets up a sole propriorship or his wife does. Even with the extension of stay, he would simply get the extension of stay based on being married to a Thai national rather than the extension of stay based on business. It does not require 4 Thai employees to get the extension of stay based on being married to a Thai national. The company would not have to make a profit as well.

I would like to have a work permit to cover my butt, and the advice you have given above does seem to be an easier process than setting up a sole propriorship or am I missing something? I am on a multiple entry "o" visa (my wife and son).

Best I come to your office in person?

  2. Sunbelt,

We want to create a sole propriorship (my wife) that will be based in Nong Bua Lamphu, however the income will come from offshore. I will be required to work as a "consultant" for the business and I will be providing the consultancy services from Thailand.

    My question is:

How do we create the business, can you provide the service from Bangkok (the business is in Nong Bua)?

This is the preferred option as we will need to speak with you regarding the wording of the consultancy role for the work permit as it involves several industries (but not Engineering or Architecture).

    Thanks

  3. I am not convinced that making some of the current security weaknesses public is a good idea.

Airports of Thailand (AoT) officials must also be strict on checking identification cards of people entering or leaving the airport, according to Mr. Chaisak.

Nor the fact that these weaknesses may not be attended to for 9 months.

ICAO inspectors will report their findings to their headquarters in Montreal, Canada, within 20 days and will dispatch an official report to Thailand in the next 60 days. Thailand then has 90 days to submit questions, if any, on security system and must prepare plans to improve the system within 120 days thereafter.

  4. Has anyone applied for a Yellow Tabien Bahn? What was the process?

I live in Nong Bua Lamphu and would like to have a "Yellow Book" as we never know when requirements regarding renewing our visa may change or other unexpected issues (TIT). I can accept any hassle that may be involved for the added peace of mind. I have always found the punters at the local Amphur office easy to get along with and have provided some "tea money" in the past.

  5. I use godaddy.com, sometimes my site is updated immediately after I push "upload", however sometimes it can take 12 + hours. I think they actually state on their site that it may take up to 24 hours. Keep checking, I have not had a problem as yet.

  6. We are arriving from Seoul on Thai airways and our onward flight departs from DM, also with Thai airways. I am assuming we will have to collect our luggage in Suva and pass through customs and then take it all to DM via bus/taxi.

However, as Udon has recently opened their 'International' Airport, I am wondering if we can arrange for our luggage to be booked through to Udon, as I have read it can with Chaing Mai.

Another question, my wife and son will be traveling on Thai PP so can I accompany them through the Thai PP Immigration booths at Suva (I could at DM, when we returned from Taiwan 3 years ago)?

  7. I found the information on the Seoul Thai Embassy site http://www.thaiembassy.or.kr/eng.htm:

  8. I received my Multi entry "O" visa yesterday from the Embassy in Seoul, however they also asked for a copy of my wife's House registration book. I did not have that but I did have her passport, ID card, our wedding certificate and my son's birth certificate. I explained that their (Thai Embassy in Seoul) website did not specify the House registration book as a requirement, and they accepted this point. The young clerk offered a Single entry "O" visa so I again mentioned their website, which indicates 200,000 won for a Multi entry "O" visa. The delightful young lady made a quick phone call and then apologised for the misunderstanding.

A rather simple and pleasant experience with the Thai staff in Seoul.

  9. Ethanol is mostly made from sugar cane here in Thailand and so much cane has been diverted to making ethanol that it has caused the price if sugar to go up. Ethanol is what makes gasohol and is a different fuel than bio diesel.

I think either crop is viable and it would be difficult to say which is better, Sugar cane will certainly give a quicker return.

    Thanks Gary A,

So they are enforcing the supply of Bio diesel but what about ethanol? Is it currently being used as vehicle fuel?

I agree that sugar cane will provide a quicker return and I believe it is hardier (less maintanence) than palm, but I am still confused about gasahol vs bio diesel.

  10. I'm a tad confused about Ethanol.

I read recently that the government is going to enforce the switch to ethanol/diesel mix, however the report stressed that this will be palm oil based. There has be quite a "hoopla" in our area for the past 5-6 months about switching to growing sugar cane, rather than solely rice, for the expanding ethanol industry. In fact, a hub for the collection of the sugar cane has been set up not far from our farm.

Several of us were preparing to grow palms but had been advised that sugar was a better choice.

Can anyone provide information about this?

    Thanks

  11. We are flying into Suvarnabhumi from Seoul and then having to transfer to Don Muang for the BKK - Udon flight.

We have 7 hours between flights and with a restless 3 year old son with us, we would like to store our luggage so we can go for a walk to the shopping area across the expressway from DM. We have been in Korea for a couple of years thus my wife and I are very keen on having some Som Tum and sticky rice.

Can anyone tell us if there is a luggage storage facility available at DM?

    Thanks

  12. My understanding is that sugar is being used as an input in the ethanol refining process, is this correct? If so, what effect does this have, as the cane will not be going to a mill but to a refinery (in the Khon Kaen area)?

There was a meeting in our tambon recently, to encourage local farmers to grow sugar to supply the refinery in KK. As my Thai is limited (very) I have relied on 2nd and 3rd hand reports.

  13. I am working in Seoul for an Adult and Business English hogwan. My wife is Thai and is here with me. I will complete my 2nd contract in 3 months and we will definitely be returning home to our house and farm in Issan. I taught for a few years in Thailand but will not be returning to teaching when we are home.

I agree with what has been said previously about working here, the pay is good but the lifestyle is boring plus our apartment is tiny. I have enjoyed working with adults and most of my students/clients are business people and MBA applicants. I have been working 6 days a week, with 35 hours contact hours a week and my pay is about 110,000 baht per month plus the apartment is free. I have not taken any holidays but will be paid a bonus for this, therefore my final months pay and end of contract bonuses will total about 250,000 baht.

My wife and I talk about getting home on a daily basis, in fact my wife has already started packing, we are very homesick and will not be leaving home again.

  14. Is anyone using the package mentioned below? I am interested how it compares to the maxnet premium service. I need to use skype's 'video calling' for work and having read about the many troubles being experienced by other members on the forum, I am concerned about my options. Any suggestions and advice welcome.

    CAT for a. G.SHDSL which cost 2/2 Mbps 2,850.00 a month! Take a look at http://www.cat.net.th/hinet/promotion.html

    Thanks
